Ricky Thornton Jr. Goes Back-To-Back for Firecracker 100 $50,000 Payday
Busy Week of Racing on Tap for Arizona Native

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (06/24/24) – Ricky Thornton Jr. made history over the weekend with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS). He became the first driver to win back-to-back years in the Firecracker 100 presented by Big River Steel.

Thornton Jr. started his weekend at Lernerville Speedway with a $5,000 triumph in preliminary action on Thursday before dominating Saturday’s finale to snare the $50,000 top prize with his SSI Motorsports / Coltman Farms / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana / Longhorn Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Ricky won by over 12 seconds in the 100-lap affair.

“There was a few times I would get to a lapped car and could never drive hard enough to get by him, and it would really slow my pace down. One time I tried to slow down in three and four and actually about went off the top, so I got into a good rhythm from there on. When this track is fast it’s really fast, but once it’s slick it’s probably slicker than East Bay (Raceway Park),” Thornton Jr. said in Lucas Oil Victory Lane on Saturday night. “It kind of reminds me of All-Tech, where for some reason we are really good there. I think our package suits this style of racetrack once it gets super clean and really slick and it got it done for us.”

Ricky Thornton Jr. rejoined the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Thursday at Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pa.) as the 18th annual Firecracker 100 presented by Big River Steel got underway with prelims on Thursday and Friday leading up to Saturday’s finale.

With the 53-car field separated into two groups, Thornton’s third-to-first run in his heat race placed him on the pole for his preliminary. Setting sail on the drop of the green flag, Ricky rolled to his 18th win of the season in the 25-lapper, taking the checkers ahead of Mike Marlar, Garrett Alberson, Michael Norris, and Jimmy Owens. He earned a $5,000 winner's payday.

Following a third-place result in Friday’s prelim feature, Ricky raced into Saturday’s Firecracker 100 with a 10-lap heat race triumph. Seeking a repeat victory in the finale after picking up the five-figure payday in 2023, Thornton regained the lead from Mike Marlar on lap 45 and cruised to the 100-lap, $50,000 triumph. He won by more than a 12-second margin over Devin Moran with Marlar joining the podium.

The historic back-to-back victory marked Ricky’s 19th win overall of the season.

Thornton increased his lead over Jonathan Davenport atop the LOLMDS point standings to 225 points.

Full results from the weekend can be found at www.LucasDirt.com .

Ricky now has a busy week of racing in front of him that begins Monday evening with the opening round of the National Open Wheel (NOW) 600 Series Indiana Micro Week at Miami County Raceway (Peru, Ind.). From there Thornton Jr. will tentatively enter the Indiana Micro Week events at U.S. 24 Speedway (Logansport, Ind.) and Bartholomew County Fairgrounds (Columbus, Ind.) on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning to Super Late Model action on Friday and Saturday at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) with a $50,000-to-win event.

Meanwhile, contact while racing for the lead during Thursday’s feature at Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) resulted in a 15th-place finish for Erb.

Getting revenge on Friday and Saturday, Tyler recorded back-to-back DIRTcar Summer Nationals victories at Brownstown (IL) Bullring and Federated Auto Part Raceway (Pevely, Mo.). The pair of $10,000 paydays increased Erb’s 2024-win counter to nine.

Nick Hoffman Banks $15,000 Hoosier Dirt Classic at Brownstown with WoO
Busy WoO Week Awaits

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (06/24/24) – One night after seeing a World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series slip from his grips, Nick Hoffman triumphantly gained redemption on Saturday night with a $15,000 series victory at Brownstown Speedway  aboard the Tye Twarog Racing / NOS Energy Drink No. 9 C&W Trucking / Longhorn Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

A night after a brush with the wall cost him a chance at a win at Ponderosa Speedway, Hoffman utilized the high line of Jim Price’s Brownstown Speedway to collect his series’ best fourth win of the year and fifth win overall on the season.

“I’ve won in (the high) line so many times in my modified, so I knew eventually that bottom would get burned up, as long as them guys didn’t just keep pushing them infield tires in,” Hoffman said in Victory Lane. “I was kinda frustrated there, just caution after caution, it felt like nothing would go my way that race and finally it did. I was able to clear (Sorensen) there right at the line before the (lap-33) caution. I fell like I gave one away last night at Ponderosa (Speedway), so this is nice redemption.”

As the busy season ramps up, Nick Hoffman returned to competition with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series on Thursday afternoon to compete in the Summertown Showdown at Thunderhill Raceway Park (Summertown, Tenn.).

In the opener of the three-race swing, Hoffman was an early exit from his heat race but was able to rebound with a top-10 finish in the feature. Launching from the 10th row, Nick advanced forward 12 positions in the 40-lapper to register a seventh-place finish.

For the Billy Todd Classic on Friday evening at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ken.), Nick qualified fifth-fastest in his group before placing second in his heat race. With the redraw placing him on the front row for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Hoffman shot out to an early lead over Brandon Sheppard but contact with the turn-two wall on lap 28, while leading, shuffled him back to sixth when the checkers flew.

Seeking redemption on Saturday evening at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway, Hoffman raced into the 41st annual Hoosier Dirt Classic A-Main with a win in his heat race. Starting in second, Nick tracked down pole-starting Dustin Sorensen on lap 32 and paced the remaining 19 circuits to claim his fifth win of the season and the $15,000 top prize.

He recorded his fifth career WoO triumph ahead of Sorensen, Bobby Pierce, Max McLaughlin, and Brandon Sheppard.

Hoffman is currently 12 points behind Brandon Sheppard for the lead in the latest World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series point standings.

Full results from the events as well as the latest standings are available at www.WoOLMS.com .

This week will be a busy one with five races in six days with WoO, including the following:

Monday, June 24: Independence (Iowa) Motor Speedway
Tuesday, June 25: Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa)
Thursday, June 27: I-94 EMR Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minn.)
Friday, June 28: River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, N.D.)
Saturday, June 29: Norman County Raceway (Ada, Minn.)

Nick Hoffman and Tye Twarog Racing would like to thank all their marketing partners, which include NOS Energy Drink, C&W Trucking, Haulin’ Haskells, Tri-Valley Equipment Sales, LSR, Bilstein, Eibach, Petroff Towing XS Power Batteries, Earnhardt Technologies, Allgaier Performance Parts, Lincoln Smith Racing, Allstar Performance, Fast Shafts, QuickCar Racing Products, VP Race Fuels, Maxima Oil, Walker Filtration, Schoenfeld Headers, Wilwood Disc Brakes, Strange Oval, Performance Bodies, Winters Rearends, Rockwell Security, Keyser Manufacturing, Sweet Manufacturing, Jerico, DirtCarLift.com, Stakt, Vexil, FK Rod Ends, Blue Deuce Tavern, Bell Helmets, MPI Performance, Elliott’s Custom Trailers, MWD Designs, K1 Racing Gear, The Joie of Seating, Outerwears, Willy’s Carb & Dyno Shop, Wrisco, and MyRacePass.com Marketing & PR Services.

Austin Horton Captures Emotional Victory at Senoia Raceway
Independence Shootout with Hunt the Front Series at Senoia Next

WHITESBURG, Ga. (6/25/24) – Austin Horton has become a familiar visitor to Senoia Raceway’s Victory Lane over the years. However, his voyage to the winner’s circle this past weekend at the Georgia oval aboard his Brandon Duke Racing / Wood Motorsports No. 66 Bobby Thomas Race Engines Late Model will be one he never forgets as he was racing in honor of his mentor Andy Knowles and his late family members that he lost in a tragic fire.

"I did this special tribute wrap for Mr. Andy Knowles. The Knowles family is going through some really tough times right now, keep them in your prayers," Horton said. "I would also like to mention my family; six of my family members were lost in a house fire this past Monday morning and keep them in your prayers."

Horton’s $3,000 Topless Outlaws victory was his fourth overall of the season and third at the 3/8-mile oval.

Unveiling a special throwback wrap dedicated to his mentor Andy Knowles, Austin Horton returned to action over the weekend on Saturday piloting the No. 66 Late Model for the Topless Outlaw Dirt Racing Series event at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway.

With a whopping 41 Late Models on the grounds, Horton locked himself into the 40-lap main event with the fifth-fastest qualifying lap in his group. Starting 10th with $4,000 on the line, Austin quickly made his way to the front and took the lead after Tucker Anderson suffered a flat. Leading the final 27 laps, Horton pocketed a $4,000 payday and collected his fourth victory of the season.

"I've got probably the smallest motor packages you're allowed to run with Topless Outlaws, but I told my guys when it gets slick, I'm like a shark in the water," Horton said. "This Rocket XR1 is a '17 model and it just keeps clicking 'em off. It's a good car."

Austin dedicated the win to his extended family who perished in a house fire earlier in the week.

Full results from the weekend can be found at www.SenoiaRaceway1969.com.

Horton plans to take this coming weekend off but will return to Senoia Raceway on July 6 to compete with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series. A $20,000 payday will be up for grabs in the Super Late Model portion of the Independence Shootout.

EL PASO, Ill. (06/25/24) – Staying composed despite a rocky start early in his 2024 season, Ryan Unzicker found his groove on Thursday with a $5,000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory at Spoon River Speedway aboard his RJR Transportation / Brucker Farms No. 24 Mosquito Hero / MB Customs / Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The win marked Unzicker’s second of the season and his 14th-career DIRTcar Summer Nationals triumph.

"I was putting a lot of pressure on Erb there. I don't know if I'd ever got around him and I'm not sure what happened there, I know Feger was right there and obviously they got tangled up there," Unzicker said. "I felt like I was pretty sporty there really the whole night. It's just the testament to my whole crew. A lot of people that follow us know that we struggled all year, and we just never gave up really. We just took a couple of weeks off and needed to step back to regroup."

Ryan Unzicker rejoined the DIRTcar Summer Nationals on Thursday as the sixth round of the Hell Tour brought 30 Late Models to Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.).

Following the second-fastest lap in his time trial group, Unzicker outran Tanner English in his heat race to record the eight-lap victory. Locked on the front row for the feature, Ryan soared into the lead late in the 30-lapper en route to his second win of the season and 14th career Hell Tour triumph. He bagged the $5,000 payday ahead of Jason Feger, Tanner English, Kye Blight, and Garrett Smith.

In a slower start on Friday at Brownstown Bullring (Brownstown, Ill.), Unzicker timed in 12th-fastest in his qualifying group before going sixth-to-third in his heat. Charging from the sixth row in the feature, Ryan rocketed to the runner-up honors in the 40-lap affair.

After turning in another second-place finish on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.), Ryan concluded his weekend with another podium outing on Sunday at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.). Vying for the $5,000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory in the ninth round of the Hell Tour, Unzicker climbed to a third-place finish.

Full results from the events can be found at www.TheHellTour.com and www.FairburySpeedway.com.

Unzicker is set to return with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals on Thursday at Macon Speedway for the 44th annual Herald & Review 100. He will follow the miniseries to Farmer City Raceway on Friday but the team is still evaluating their options for Saturday.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (06/25/24) – Jason Feger capped off an extremely consistent DIRTcar Summer Nationals swing with a $7,500 victory in Sunday’s Week 2 finale at Lincoln Speedway aboard his Titan Industries / Corrosion Technologies / Cheap Cars No. 25 Longhorn Chassis Late Model.

Feger’s run of six consecutive Top-5 finishes over the week earned him the $10,000 Week 2 DIRTcar Summer Nationals title.

"I mean, obviously Terbo (Tyler Erb) has been on a roll, but I at least want to bring our A-game and give us a shot," Feger said. "We've been inching closer. So it feels good to finally have the car feeling like I feel like it should."

For the second week of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals deemed Hell Tour, Jason Feger followed the summer miniseries to Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) on Tuesday to compete on the quarter-mile oval.

Following a third-place heat finish, Feger climbed five spots in the 30-lap opener to place fifth.

The win marked his 27th-career Hell Tour triumph and his third straight at the Illinois oval.

On the heels of Sunday’s win, Feger claimed the $10,000 weekly DIRTcar Summer Nationals points title.

Full results from the events can be found at www.TheHellTour.com.
