Ricky Thornton Jr. Clinches LOLMDS Title at Eldora Speedway
Third-place Finish in DTWC Lifts Koehler Motorsports to $200,000 Payday

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (10/21/24) – Ricky Thornton Jr. added a historic achievement to his rapidly growing résumé on Saturday night as the Koehler Motorsports pilot clinched his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) championship with a third-place finish in Saturday’s Dirt Track World Championship at Eldora Speedway aboard his Ultimate Towing & Recovery / Capital Waste / Coltman Farms Racing / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Longhorn Chassis Late Model.

After falling short in the LOLMDS title hunt in 2023, Thornton stamped his name in the record books with a 60-point margin of victory in the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship over Devin Moran.

Thornton, who overcame late-race contact with the backstretch wall on lap 71 to secure the massive $200,000 payday, credited the Koehler Motorsports team for Saturday’s performance that capped off an unforgettable LOLMDS season.

“It took a lot of hard work and determination,” Thornton said. “My job is pretty easy getting to wheel this thing. Overall, I get all the glory, and they do all the hard work. So, this is definitely a big team effort by everyone at Koehler Motorsports. It’s pretty awesome.”

Koehler Motorsports and Ricky Thornton Jr. invaded Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) on Friday afternoon with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series title on the line in the 44th annual General Tire Dirt Track World Championship presented by ARP.

With prelims slated for Friday, Thornton followed up the second-fastest qualifying lap in his 31-car group with a heat race win.

Lined up third for Saturday night’s $100,000-to-win Dirt Track World Championship, Ricky rolled to a consistent third-place finish in the 100-lap affair. He rallied after contact with the backstretch wall on lap 71 to secure a podium spot, joining race-winner Bobby Pierce and Tim McCreadie on the stage.

Thornton finished 60 markers ahead of Devin Moran to capture his first career LOLMDS championship.

An elated Thornton made sure to give thanks to his crew chief Chris Madden for his hard work in their pursuit of the title.

“This car ran flawlessly during this playoff deal,” Thornton added. “Chris Madden, I don’t think we could have won this without him. He has been a great leader for our team and helped us stay as a whole team. I had input this weekend, but I told him this is your racetrack and like we are better off letting him make the decisions.”

Full results from the entire weekend as well as the final LOLMDS standings are available at www.LucasDirt.com.

Thornton will take a few weeks off to enjoy the historic season with family before returning to action with the 18th annual World of Outlaws World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte. A pair of $15,000-to-win prelims on Thursday and Friday are followed by Saturday’s finale, which pays $25,000 to the victor.

Tim McCreadie and Rocket1 Racing Race to Second-Place Finish in DTWC Finale
McCreadie and Rocket1 Racing Finish Fourth in LOLMDS Standings

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (10/21/24) Tim McCreadie led a total of 79 laps before ultimately finishing second in Saturday night’s General Tire Dirt Track World Championship finale aboard the Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Rocket1 Racing / Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

McCreadie’s runner-up performance behind Bobby Pierce at Eldora Speedway came after the team had to scramble to unload a backup car, when mechanical issues were found with the primary car just before the 100-lap feature was set to roll. Despite the last-minute adversity, the team persevered to contend for the win throughout the 100-lap finale.

“Hat’s off to the Rocket1 team. Pulling out a car — I can't remember the last time I ran this one, probably late May or something —  and having to switch a bunch of stuff over and get no hot laps before the future is pretty cool for this team. I was hoping we could get them one and it didn't work out,” McCreadie said. “They give you real good equipment to run and then when we get out there, it's up to me to try to bring it home and we just came up a little short. I didn't know where Bobby [Pierce] was, but I assumed he was up on the cushion, and I was up there 90 percent of the time and we just kind of faded a little. Not just tonight, but the whole year since I joined the team, we overcame a lot of challenges, and I’m proud of everything we were able to accomplish.”

The final event on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) slate brought the Rocket1 Racing team and Tim McCreadie to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) over the weekend to compete in the 44th annual General Tire Dirt Track World Championship presented by ARP.

With 61 Super Late Models amassed for prelims on Friday, McCreadie claimed the Allstar Performance Fast Time award in time trials before darting to a heat race win.

Forced to pull out his secondary car for Saturday’s $100,000-to-win main event after mechanical sidelined his primary car, McCreadie recorded a runner-up finish in the 100-lap affair after leading the majority of the race.

Tim led laps 1-2, 6-63, and 65-83 before ultimately crossing the line in second. He joined race-winner Bobby Pierce and Ricky Thornton Jr. on the podium.

McCreadie and the Rocket1 Racing team finished fourth in the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship point standings.

Hagar Doubles Up During World Short Track Challenge to Push Winning Streak to Four Victories in Eight Days

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Oct. 21, 2024) - Derek Hagar's hot streak continued last weekend at Riverside International Speedway, where he swept the World Short Track Challenge.

Hagar bested 50-plus other drivers during the ASCS National Tour and USCS Series two-day event, giving him four feature victories in an eight-day span.

"My grandfather had something to do with the event back in the '70s when Sammy (Swindell) won both races," he said. "To bring this race back and be able to keep the win in the family is pretty special."

Hagar opened the event on Friday by qualifying ninth quickest in his group. He then won a heat race to accumulate enough points to lock into the 10 th starting position in the A Main.

"Momentum was a big key from sweeping the weekend before," he said. "I knew we needed to do what we normally do and make good laps. The track slicked off pretty quickly in the feature and played into my favor. I think I passed four cars going into turn three on the third or fourth lap. I dove it to the bottom and it stuck. We got by some really good cars to race into the top four. Hank Davis got up on the fence and was able to keep going, but it kind of messed his car up. We ended up having a red flag when Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) crashed so that put me up to second. I made quick work of Anton Hernandez and was able to make my laps the way I wanted for the rest of the race."

Hagar took the lead just before the midpoint of the race and pulled away for the triumph. The victory was his 11 th triumph of the season and it locked him into a dash position for Saturday's $10,000-to-win finale.

"All we had to do was hot lap and pill draw for the dash," he said. "They did the revenge draw so I knew I was probably going to end up with the six (out of six). We started sixth and was able to run fifth so that put us starting fifth in the feature. We had a tight race car early. We got by a couple of guys in front of us and into the top three fairly quick. I was trying everything I could do to get by Hank and Jordon (Mallett). I knew I wasn't going to pass them following them. I started pulling the wing back and floating the middle. I tried something different and it worked out in our favor."

Hagar got to second place near the middle of the race and he chased Mallett lap after lap before taking the lead with seven circuits remaining. The victory was his 10 th career with the ASCS National Tour.

"The power steering fitting in the pump broke," he said. "Right when I got by Jordon I started losing steering so I ran the last five or six laps with no power steering. I was thinking in my head, 'Oh no, not now. Why now?' But it worked out and we were able to hold on to the win."

Hagar returns to the track this weekend to drive for Paul Hart during the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader on Friday and Saturday. Hagar set his career-best World of Outlaws result of 11 th place at the track during the series' most recent visit in April 2018.

Dylan Cecce Sweeps Hoag Memorial at Outlaw Speedway
Earns $2,777 Payday for Fourth Straight Hoag Memorial Triumph

AVIS, Pa. (09/18/24) – Dylan Cecce ended his 2024 season in dominant fashion with a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday’s Hoag Memorial at Outlaw Speedway aboard his Keystone Rail Recovery / Creek Side Heating & Air Conditioning / Close Racing Supply No. 18 Street Stock.

Cecce collected a $2,777 payday for his fourth straight win in the annual event honoring the late Donald “Dutch” Hoag.

The victory marked Cecce’s sixth overall of the 2024 campaign.

“It feels good to pick up my fourth win in this event,” Cecce said. “That was the goal coming here, to return to victory lane. It was cool to do it with a different strategy with the race being shortened. It was kind of harder in my opinion with only 50 laps. But it feels awesome, big thanks to Russ and Jamie Clark for providing me the opportunity. I can’t thank them enough.”

In search of the four-peat, Dylan Cecce entered the Russ Clark Motorsports No. 18x Street Stock into battle at Outlaw Speedway (Dundee, N.Y.) on Friday night to compete in preliminaries to kick off the 13th annual Dutch Hoag Memorial.

With the 4/10-mile oval hosting a pair of dash races for Street Stocks on Friday, Cecce raced into Saturday night’s 50-lap main event with a commanding victory.

Joining Outlaw Speedway track champion Gene Sharpsteen on the front row for the feature on Saturday, Cecce led flag-to-flag en route to his sixth win of the season and his fourth straight victory in the Hoag Memorial.

He banked the $2,777.88 payday ahead of Jimmy Grant, CJ Guererri, Sharpsteen, Mike Wonderling.

Full results from the event can be found at www.OutlawSpeedwayLLC.com.

Saturday’s triumph concludes the season for Dylan Cecce and the Russ Clark Motorsports team. The Avis, Pa., driver amassed six wins, 14 Top-5’s, and 17 Top-10’s in Late Model and Street Stock Competition.

Jon Mitchell Takes Spooky 50 in CCSDS Finale at Super Bee Speedway
USMTS Battle at Boothill Up Next

TEXARKANA, Texas (10/21/24) – Jon Mitchell capped a stellar final weekend of the 2024 COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) season with a $5,000 triumph in Saturday’s Spooky 50 at Super Bee Speedway aboard his Team 5 Enterprise / Tommy Dowden Logging / Integra Racing Shocks No. 5 Late Model.

The 2012 series champion was impressive throughout the season-ending special at the quarter-mile oval in Chatham, Louisiana, en route to the event win.

“We’ve been on a dry spell for sure,” Mitchell said. “I knew we had one coming here before long, we got a pretty good car here now. This thing started getting one-lane there and I just tried not to mess up and take care of my right-rear tire. Man it feels good, I’m tellin’ ya it’s been a while, it makes you question yourself ... man, to hang that big check in the shop is bigger than the money, to tell you the truth.”

Mitchell opened the evening at the Louisiana oval by qualifying with the quickest time in the 20-car field, turning in a 15.217-second lap behind the wheel of his law enforcement-themed No. 5 Super Late Model. He went on to win his heat race from the pole and started the 40-lap main event from the top spot. He led every circuit to score his first feature victory of the year, his sixth career win with the series, and his first trip to a CCSDS victory lane since August 1, 2014.

Mitchell took the checkered flag 0.713 seconds ahead of Morgan Bagley, while Clayton Stuckey rounded out the podium. Kyle Beard and Shane Hebert finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

On Friday, Mitchell was also strong in the $5,000-to-win CCSDS program on First Responders Night at Texarkana 67 Speedway.

Competing among 25 entries at the quarter-mile oval in Texarkana, Arkansas, Mitchell set the third-quickest time in qualifying and won his heat after starting first. He rolled off from the third on the grid in the 40-lap feature and finished as runner-up, 1.154 seconds behind winner B.J. Robinson. Hebert, Logan Martin and Beard completed the top-five.

As a result of Mitchell’s pair of top-two weekend finishes, he jumped ahead one position in the 2024 CCSDS point standings and ended the year in the fourth spot.

Full results from the final two events of the year are at www.COMPDirt.com.

Mitchell will sit idle this weekend before returning to Modified competition at Boothill Speedway in early November for the United States Modified Touring Series Battle at Boothill. A pair of $5,000-to-win events highlight the doubleheader weekend.
