Ricky Thornton Jr. Secures Castrol Title with Peach State Classic Sweep
Gateway Dirt Nationals Remains in 2024
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (11/18/24) – Ricky Thornton Jr. entered the fourth annual Peach State Classic weekend at Senoia Raceway with a 27-point deficit behind Bobby Pierce in the Castrol FloRacing Night in America point standings. However, the Chandler, Arizona, native scored a near sweep of the doubleheader to close the gap and claim the $75,000 championship – marking his 29th victory of the 2024 season.
The pilot of the Ultimate Towing & Recovery / Capital Waste / Coltman Farms Racing / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Longhorn Chassis Late Model backed up a $20,000 triumph on Friday night with a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday’s $30,000-to-win finale.
Thornton successfully defended his 2022 Peach State Classic title after Mother Nature washed out the two-day event in 2023.
“We set out with a goal coming into this weekend and knew that if we gave 110% effort to all the factors that we controlled, that we’d put ourselves in a position to not only win races but also contend for the championship,” Thornton said. “Ricky (Arnold) had a different idea on what direction to go with the tires for the feature than I was thinking and man it worked perfectly. This car was great from the drop of the green, and I could go anywhere I needed to. Hats off to Bubba Pollard and everybody here at Senoia (Raceway) for all the hard work they put into giving us a great track tonight. A huge shoutout to Bobby and Jessica Koehler for the opportunity to drive for them. They are just the best.”
The doubleheader weekend at the 3/8-mile oval kicked off on Friday with Thornton claiming the overall fast time honors amongst a stout crowd of 51 Super Late Models. After soaring to a flag-to-flag victory in his heat race, Ricky repelled a charging Bobby Pierce late in the 40-lap feature to claim the $20,000 top prize and his 28th win of the season.
On Saturday, Ricky set the pace in time trials with a blistering 14.862-second lap before placing first in his heat. Leading flag-to-flag in the 75-lap Peach State Classic main event, Thornton cruised to the weekend sweep and the Castrol FloRacing Night in America championship.
With Saturday’s $30,000 victory, Thornton’s weekend earnings inflated to $125,000 after capturing the $75,000 series title.

Needmore Speedway’s Early Bird 50 Up Next
UNION, S.C. (11/18/24) – Trent Ivey rocketed into Cherokee Speedway Victory Lane over the weekend with a dominant $20,000 triumph in the 34th annual Blue-Gray 100 aboard his Palmetto Pole & Piling / Hwy 29 Grill No. 88 Ivey Construction / Ivey Septic Service / Rocket Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.
In addition to matching the largest payday of his career, Sunday’s victory was a historic moment for the Ivey family. The win made Trent the first driver to join his father, Pete Ivey, as a Blue-Gray 100 champion at the South Carolina oval. Pete won the prestigious race in 2003, marking a memorable father-son milestone in the event’s history.
"It ain't me, man, it's all these people you see out here (in victory lane), there's 100 people out here. My mom and dad, my fiancee ... " Ivey said thanking all his crew and supporters. "It means a lot to have my name (on the winner's list among) all the people that's won the Blue-Gray 100."
Ivey joined a strong contingent of 24 Super Late Models at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) on Sunday afternoon as the 3/8-mile oval hosted the 34th running of the historic Blue-Gray 100.
With the event co-sanctioned by the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series and Mid-East Super Late Models, Ivey kicked off his afternoon strong by laying down the fastest lap in his qualifying group before picking up an uncontested win in his heat race. Leading the field to green in the 60-lap feature, Trent led every lap en route to the $20,000 payday. Daulton Wilson and Donald McIntosh joined him on the podium.
The win marked Trent’s second of the 2024 season.
Ivey also competed in the 602 Late Model division where he would make up four spots in the $2,000-to-win feature to record a fifth-place finish.

Dillon McCowan Tops Turkey Bowl XVIII at Springfield Raceway
Collects $6,064 for Third Win of 2024
URBANA, Mo. (11/18/24) – After falling just short with a runner-up finish in the 2023 Turkey Bowl, Dillon McCowan sought redemption and delivered on Saturday night with a $6,064 victory at Springfield Raceway aboard his Pomeroy Services / Empire Energy No. 8 Sonic Drive-In / McCowan Farms Super Late Model.
The 20-year-old Missouri racer repelled Logan Martin over the final nine circuits to capture his third win of the 2024 campaign in the Turkey Bowl XVIII main event.
“(I'm) pretty tired. That double-duty stuff is pretty tough,” said McCowan, who ran two divisions. “Especially when you’re going from four link (rear suspension), everything that’s on these Late Models, back down to a B-mod. It probably helped me with my throttle control and everything like that."
McCowan made the short trip to Springfield (Mo.) Raceway on Friday afternoon with plans to pull double duty in the Super Late Model and B-Mod ranks for the Turkey Bowl XVIII.
After taking part in B-Mod preliminaries on Friday, McCowan broke out his Super Late Model on Saturday night and got off to a strong start as he went fourth-to-first in his heat race. Rolling off from the outside front-row in the feature, Dillon slid into the lead on lap 21 and paced the remainder of the 30-lapper to claim his third win of the season and the $6,064 paycheck. Logan Martin and Clay Stuckey rounded out the podium.
McCowan’s bid into the $3,064-to-win B-Mod Turkey Bowl XVIII ended in a B-Main earlier Saturday evening after claiming a prelim win in his heat race.
Full results from the weekend can be found at www.SpringfieldRaceway.com.
Saturday’s victory marked McCowan’s final event of the 2024 campaign. The 20-year-old youngster ended the season with three wins, 20 Top-5’s, and 33 Top-10’s in 60 starts.
McCowan’s second full season in Late Model competition was highlighted by several noteworthy accomplishments, including his first MARS Late Model Championship victory at Kankakee County Speedway and a runner-up finish in the DIRTcar Summer Nationals points standings.
With preparations for the 2025 season already underway, Dillon McCowan Racing is actively seeking additional marketing partners for the 2025 season.
