Rodney Sanders Sweeps Through Winter Meltdown Weekend at Vado
Increases 2022-Win Total to Seven

HAPPY, Tex. (03/14/22) – Neither a tough field of competitors or even a snowstorm could keep Rodney Sanders out of Victory Lane during the weekend’s Winter Meltdown at New Mexico’s Vado Speedway Park.

Sanders piloted his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified to back-to-back wins on Friday and Saturday as his season win total grew to seven.

“Hats off to the Vado Speedway Park staff for getting the show in both nights. A lot of tracks would’ve thrown in the towel with two inches of snow on the ground Friday morning, but they found a way to make it happen, and I really appreciate their effort,” Sanders said. “We had a great car every night during the Wild West Shootout at Vado back in January, and we took those notes and used them to get two more victories this weekend.

“Thanks to everyone, who makes this program possible.”

Rodney Sanders ventured to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, NM) on Friday afternoon, where he returned to the driver’s seat of his ARMI No. 20 Modified for the opening round of the two-day Winter Meltdown. In a field of 21 USRA Modifieds, Sanders outdueled Austin Adams in his heat race to pick up the eight-lap victory.

Powering ahead of Jimmy Ray following a mid-race restart in the feature, Rodney raced to his sixth win of the season, which came ahead of Kollin Hibdon, Nick Rivera, Fito Gallardo, and Jake Gallardo. He earned a $2,000 prize.

On Saturday, Sanders’ sixth-to-second run in his heat race locked him into a front row starting position for the feature. Keeping fellow front-row starter Fito Gallardo and his son Jake at bay for all 35 laps, Rodney recorded his seventh win of the season and second in as many nights. He claimed a $3,000 payday ahead of Jake Gallardo, Kollin Hibdon, Fito Gallardo, and Carlos Ahumada Jr.

Sanders will tentatively trek to Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, La.) this Friday and Saturday for an America Racer USRA Modified Series doubleheader. The weekend includes a $2,000-to-win and $3,000-to-win program.

Schatz 12th in Thunderbowl opener; Merced and Ocean to continue WoO West Coast Swing

Dates: Friday and Saturday, March 11th-12th

2022 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Sixth | 926 points [78 points behind championship leader, David Gravel]

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (March 14, 2022) - It was a tough weekend in Tulare for ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, but despite the hardship and frustrating results, the Fargo, North Dakota, native is already looking ahead, setting his eyes on another California double this Friday and Saturday, March 18-19.

Rounds three and four of the Outlaws’ six-race California adventure, Schatz, driver of Tony Stewat/Curb-Agajanian Racing (TSR), Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Digital Ally, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, will visit Merced Speedway and Ocean Speedway, respectively, during the coming weekend, each awarding the standard $10,000 top prize.

Although a tough outing in Tulare all together, there were some shining moments for Schatz and TSR. The team finished fourth in Friday’s heat race to qualify for the main event, ultimately securing the 14th starting position. Schatz would go on to climb two spots and finish 12th, and until Saturday’s feature hiccup, Friday’s result was the first and only time this season that Schatz finished outside of the top-ten.

Saturday’s eventual DNF, ending the night upside-down with 24 laps remaining, was the product of poor luck throughout the entire evening, beginning with a “nowhere to go” scenario at the start of his respective heat race that left Schatz in the work area. Schatz would eventually return to heat race action, but he missed a transfer position. The ten-time champ would go on to transfer through the evening’s Last Chance Showdown, only to be involved in another accident in the main event.

ON DECK:
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2022 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with another California double on Friday and Saturday, March 18-19. The Greatest Show On Dirt will kick things off with a visit to Merced Speedway in Merced, California, followed by a stop at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, California. The six-race California swing will then conclude with visits to Bakersfield and Perris the following weekend.
