CARTERSVILLE, GA - Here’s a Memo from the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series to Mother Nature: “Whatever we did to make you mad,,,, we apologize!!!” Week 3 of NeSmith Weekly Racing Series competition saw 11 of the 18 scheduled events get rained out. Of the seven events that did take place, they changed the looks of the National point standings in three of the four Divisions.
Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS took a Week 3 win and a second-place finish in a Week 2 Make-Up Race on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS that put him on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model Division point standings. Lee has two wins and four top five finishes in four races to hold a six-point lead over Monte Skinner of Saraland, AL.
Lee has 149 points out of a possible 150 points, and Skinner has 143 points with one win and three top five finishes in three races. Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is third with 142 points, and K.I. Davis is fourth with 137 points. Owen Stockstill is fifth with 132 points, and Cole Cameron is sixth in the NeSmith Late Model National standings with 131 points.
Pace Cameron with 130 points, Braden Mitchell with 128 points, Ronnie Graham with 125 points, and Allen Gray with 124 points are seventh through tenth respectively in the NeSmith Late Model National standings.
Ricky Idom of Hattiesburg, MS is “Mr. Perfect” in NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock competition. Idom won both the Week 2 Make-Up Race and the Week 3 race on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to take over the NeSmith Street Stock National point lead. Idom has three wins in three starts for a perfect score of 150 points.
Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS is second with 146 points and Bryan Fortner of Millport, AL is third with 143 points. Sam Maxie of Vancleave, MS is fourth with 138 points. Mike Lane and Jay Geddie are tied for the fifth spot with 137 points apiece. Dewayne Estes is seventh with 132 points and Steve Maughan is eighth with 129 points. David Williamson, Cody Nelson and Bryce Sheasby are tied for the ninth spot in the NeSmith Street Stock National standings with 128 points apiece.
Buddy George of Ragland, AL remains the NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division point leader with 141points, but Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS picked up his second win of the season on Friday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway to move into the second spot. George has two wins in three starts and Thrash has a perfect two wins in two starts for 100 points.
Mark Thorne is third in the NeSmith Late Model Sportsman National standings with 92 points, and Jamie Pickard is fourth with 90 points. Tody Ratcliff is fifth with 89 points, while Aaron Fitzhugh and Chance Pennington are tied for the sixth spot with 88 points apiece. Brandon Crosby is eighth with 87 points, and Mike Pickard is ninth with 86 points.
Phillip Gibson rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division standings with 85 points. Justin Angle with 40 points, Ronald Bailey with 39 points, and Andy Davis with 38 points remain the top three drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman National point standings.
In other NeSmith Weekly Racing Series Week 3 action, the 2017 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division World Champion Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS was the NeSmith Street Stock winner on Friday night at The Mag.
John Smartt of Manchester, TN took the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division win on Friday night at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA. Bubba Christian took the NeSmith Street Stock win on Saturday night at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, GA.
Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS took his second NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model Division win of the 2018 season on Friday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Jason Jarrell of Hattiesburg, MS won the Week 2 Make-Up NeSmith Late Model race on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.
Looking ahead at Week 4 NeSmith Weekly Racing Series competition, Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS has announced that it will hold its Week 2 Make-Up Race this Friday night for the NeSmith Late Models. the NeSmith Street Stocks, and the NeSmith Late Model Sportsmen. It will then have its regularly scheduled Week 4 event for the three Divisions on Saturday night.
