Joseph Joiner Sweeps Southern All Star Action At Southern Raceway

RACE RECAP: MILTON, FL—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by MaxFab made a second trip this year to Tom & Kin Lowry’s Southern Raceway in Milton, Fl., and a local standout in crate racing showed out as Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL., took the wins both nights in the 31st Anniversary Weekend at Southern Raceway that were worth $3,000 and $6,000 respectively.

Joiner set fast time in SUNOCO Race Fuels/Knowles Race Parts qualifying on Saturday night and then took the lead at the drop of the green for the 30 lapper and never looked back as he cruised too that win.

The battle Saturday night was between points leader David Breazeale and Billy Franklin as those two battled side by side the entire race for the second spot with Franklin coming on top with his best finish of the year, Breazeale came in third, Casey Roberts fourth and Austin Arnold fifth.

Finishing in sixth was Zach Leonhardi, seventh to Cody Smith, eighth to Mark Dodson, ninth Steven Jernigan and then to James Gilmore.

In Sunday night action Joiner once again set quick time and in the 50 lap event he was in control from the start as he led the entire 50 laps even building a half lap lead over the rest of the field at certain points.  Joiner had only one caution late in the race to let the field get close for the restart but he pulled away at the end to get the win and also his first two career Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series wins over the weekend.

Billy Franklin of Alabaster, AL., had his best career finished with the series this year so far as was second Sunday night matching his effort from Saturday night.  Third place was Casey Roberts of Toccoa, GA., fourth to Zach Leonhardi of Cartersville, GA., and fifth to Austin Arnold of Kosciusko, MS.

Finishing in the sixth spot was Cody Smith, seventh to Steve Jernigan, eighth to Bo Slay, ninth James Gilmore and tenth to J C Wilson.

WEEKEND RACE TIDBITS: Rain continues to plague the Southern All Stars in 2019 as weather forecast for the area the whole weekend had high rain chances and that had a deciding factor on many cars attending the event, but weather turned out to be good still hot but now rain.

Joseph Joiner was in a new Capital race car that they had just got ready Tuesday and this was its first weekend and racing and looked impressive.

Points leader David Breazeal suffer rear end problem on the first lap of the Sunday night feature and was credited with a 15th place finish.

Zach Leonhard had damage after the Saturday race but with the help of Billy Franklin and Joseph Joiner he was back ready to run as he set fast time for his group on Sunday night and got to start on pole indie of Joiner.

Casey Roberts who has won several Southern All Stars races at Southern seemed to never get his car where he needed to be but still managed top five finishes each night.

First time starts with the series this year Steve Jernigan, James Gilmore, Tim Anderson, Shay Miller, Bo Slay, Kyle Bryant, Micah McCall, and Tucker Byrd.

This weekend’s events that were scheduled for Oglethorpe Speedway and Screven Motorsports Complex have been cancelled due to hurricane Dorian.

Next race will be September 21st at the I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, TN., a 40 lap $4,000 to win event.
