Southern All Stars Head Back To South Georgia After 10 Years

FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by MaxFab will be going back to the south Georgia area for the first time in over 10 years as it heads back to one of the original Southern All Stars tracks Oglethorpe Speedway om Pooler, GA., and Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA., for a weekend of racing worth over $43,000 to the participating drivers.

Friday night September 7th the series will be at the newly designed 3/8ths mile Oglethorpe Speedway for a 40 lap $4,000 to win event.  Oglethorpe had been one of the largest and fastest races track in the country but in 2018 they decided to reconfigure the track to a 3/8th mile flat surface to allow for better racing.  The track was on the Southern All Stars schedule during the years the series was sanctioned by NASCAR and this will the fourth event the series has ever held at the track. Past winners at Oglethorpe Speedway are Randle Chupp, Charles Powell III and David Chancy.

Then on Saturday night September 8th the series will move to  James “Redd” Griffin’s track Screven Motor Speedway located Sylvania, GA., for the Rebel Yell, a 60 lap $7,500 to win event at the tight ¼ mile oval in southeastern Georgia.  As usual “Redd” will roll out the “red carpet” for the series which has not been back there since 2008.   “I like to keep things fresh” said Griffin. “It has been awhile since Southern All Stars has been here so we worked out the date with Oglethorpe to do a doubleheader and see what works.  If we can make this a success we will do it again and possible add another doubleheader early in the year in 2019.” said Griffin.  Past winners at Screven include Chesley Dixon, Benji Cole, Casey Barrow, Dennis Franklin and Ray Cook.

Drivers that are expected to be in action include current Southern All Star points leader Jay Scott of Fayetteville, TN., Ray McElhiney of Pulaski, TN., Mark Dodson of Caledonia, MS., Eric Hickerson of Linden, TN., Brad Skinner of Spring Hill, TN., Casey Roberts of Toccoa, GA., Larry Harrod of Plains, GA., J R Moseley of Columbus, GA., plus Dennis “Rambo” Franklin, Zack Mitchell, Ross Bailes, Kyle Van Sickle, Mark Whitener and more.
