Casey Roberts & Brandon Overton Southern All Stars Oglethorpe & Screven Winners

RACE RECAP: POOLER, GA--The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Max Fab made stops 12 & 13 this past weekend at the newly designed Oglethorpe Speedway in Pooler, GA., and Casey Roberts scored his first win of the season with the series as well as his first win for Blount Motorsports as he battled with Kyle Hardy for the top spot when he finally got under Hardy and went on to get the win. Hardy who set a new track record for Oglethorpe’s new design at a 17.426 finished in the second, Dewayne Kiefer of Bloomsdale, MO., finished in the third spot, Bob Robertson of Evans, GA., was fourth and Kyle Van Sickle of Jacksonville, FL., was fifth.

Finishing in sixth place was Ray McElhiney, seventh to Jay Scott, eighth to Mark Dodson, ninth Joseph Faulkner and tenth Eric Hickerson.

RACE TIDBITS: Southern All Star point contenders all finished in the top ten as the captured spots sixth through tenth.

Drivers really praised the new layout of the Oglethorpe Speedway as well as fans in attendance as this was the first test of super on the 3/8yths mile layout that produced side by side racing around the semi banked surface.

Many drivers believed that once the word gets out on how Oglethorpe Speedway is now it will attract more super to events and hopes that series will return in 2019.

2016 Southern All Stars regular Jim Rogers of Statesboro, GA., broke a driver shaft in hot laps and was unable to compete.

First time starts with the series this season include Dewayne Kiefer, Bob Robertson, Kyle Van Sickle, Mark Davidson, Johnny Pursley, Dustin Morris, Kerry Gibbons, Cla Knight, Travis Pennington, and Casey Barrow.

RACE RECAP:SYLVANIA, GA--The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Max Fab made stops 12 & 13 this past weekend returned to the Screven Motor Speedway for the first time since 2008 as the 19th Annual Rebel Yell was on the line and Brandon Overton of Appleton, GA., garnered his second career Southern All Star win as he held off a late race battle with Casey Roberts to get the win and the $10,000 paycheck. Roberts came home in the second spot with Chris Ferguson third, Shannon Buckingham fourth and Brent Dixon fifth.

Finishing in sixth place was Zach Mitchell, Jeff Smith in seventh, eighth to Dennis Franklin, ninth Brian Conner and tenth to Johnny Pursley.

RACE TIDBITS: Southern All Star point contender did not have a good night as Eric Hickerson was highest finishing point contender, point’s leader Jay Scott had his worst finish of the year with a 14th place finish, Ray McElhiney 16th, Mark Dodson 17th and Joseph Faulkner 25th

Track owner James “Redd” Griffin upped the top price from $7,500 to $10,000 after the World 100 got rained out and it did attract a few drivers down t south Georgia, Overton, Ferguson Buckingham, and Steven Roberts.

27 cars entered the even and the decision was made to start all 27 as drivers that made their first trip to the facility like the track and hoped that the series would come back.
