Shannon Buckingham Now in Southern All Star Record Books As Winner

RACE RECAP: MARYVILLE, TN--The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Max Fab made its final stop of the season at the 4/10ths mile Smoky Mt Speedway in Maryville, TN., Saturday night and the series had another first time winner as Shannon Buckingham of Maryville, TN., scored his first career series win on the weekend that his car owner Roger Sellers acquired sole ownership of the track in Maryville, TN.  Buckingham won the first heat race and that gave him the pole position for the 50 lap $7,500 to win King of the Mountain/Fall Classic.    Second place went to Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA., who got by Randy Weaver on the last lap to get that spot with Weaver falling back to third, Cory Hedgecock finished fourth from his 8th stating spot and Vic Hill rounded out the top five.

Finishing in sixth place was Robby Moses, seventh to Casey Roberts, eighth to Tommy Kerr, ninth Riley Hickman and tenth to Eric Wells from his 17th starting spot.

RACE TIDBITS: Southern All Star points leader Jay Scott has essentially clinched the 2018 title and all he has to do is start the main at Talladega Short Track Saturday night and he will become the 23rd different series champion in 35 years.  Scott will also become the second driver to win the champion and the Cruise with the Champions/Dirtondirt.com Rookie of the Year in row.  2017 Southern All Star Champion Austin Horton was the first driver to that in the history and now it has happened tow year in a row.

Other drivers in the points chase had a rough night as the top two in series points had to use provisionals Jay Scott and Mark Dodson, Ray McElhiney and Joseph Faulkner failed to make the event.

Long time Southern All Star competitor Gary McPherson of Dalton, GA, ran his first race with the series ins several years was back and had a 17th place finish and also another former Cruise with the Champions/Dirtondirt.com Rookie of the Year Mike Weeks was back in action with the series.

This was the third race of the season at Smoky Mt Speedway and we would like to thank all the fans, drivers and most of all former ownership group as well as the new ownership group for their help and hospitality during the 2018 season as look forward to what’s in store for Smoky Mt Speedway in 2019.
