MORROW RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE
FRANKLIN TAKES POINTS LEAD

RACE RECAPARKADELPHIA, AL— The Southern All Stars Super Late Model Dirt Series visited a track for the first time in the series 37 year history. ECM Speedway hosted the series and 30 drivers from the south made their way to the 3/8th mile clay oval. And the packed grandstands didn't have to wait long for the action to begin.

The track record of 14.031 was the target as several drivers were flirting with the time in the hot laps session. The laps that count is qualifying and the crowd would see 2 drivers beat it.

In Group A qualifying, Terrance Nowell laid down a lap of 13.972 and Michael Arnold turned 13.999 to set a new track record and lock in the 1st and 3rd starting positions respectfully. Fastest in Group B was Dane Dacus and Jadon Frame to round out the top 4 starting spots.

As the green flag waved on the 25 car staring field, it didn't take the series 2019 champion David Breazeale to charge to the front of the field from his 7th starting position. Dacus was close behind and Todd Morrow looming in 3rd. On the 29th lap of the scheduled 40, Dacus had problems and Morrow moved to the back bumper of Breazeale. Morrow was closing in and on lap 36, Breazeale's right rear wheel broke loose ending his night. Morrow would hold on to bring home the checkers and the $4,000.00 check.

In victory lane, Morrow  said he was catching Breazeale but wasn't sure if he had enough laps. Morrow said " it has been 4 or 5 years since I won an All Stars race and it feels great." When he learned it has actually been 6 years, he said "even sweeter."

Breazeale on his tough luck "I guess when something breaks on the car it is better to be leading instead of being on the rear. I am so thankful that the catch fence kept the tire inside the track."

Nowell crossed the stripe behind Morrow to finish 2nd followed by Jadon Frame, Billy Franklin and Heath Hindman. With Franklin picking up 9 positions from his 13th starting spot, he has taken over the top spot in the 2020 points battle.

Rounding out the top 10 was Eric Cooley, Larry Harrod, Sam Norman, Jason Hiett and Joseph Joiner. Norman started 20th and received the Hard Charger award of $100.00 from King Mobile Homes.

B&C Plumbing added a $50.00 bonus to the fastest qualifiers in both groups. Terrance Nowell and Dane Dacus was the recipients of these awards.

Wayne's Pest Control also added a $100.00 bonus to the 2 winners of the PPM Racing Products B-Mains. Jason Hiett took the checkers in the first 10 lapper and Heath Hindman was the winner of B-Main #2.

RACE TIDBITS: Thanks to Chris Cates and the Cates family for having the Southern All Stars series to ECM Speedway for their first visit to the speedway.

1999 All Stars Champion Jamie Perry's son was in the pits turning wrenches on Sam Norman's hotrod.

With afternoon showers showing up in Alabama daily, it was a welcome sight that there was only a 1% chance of rain on Saturday.

Thanks to all the drivers of the big rigs for avoiding hanging up on the hairpin turn on Highway 91 heading to the track. Good job guys.
