Overton Rallies Late for Wythe Raceway Spring Nationals Win
All-Tech Raceway Doubleheader Next for Georgia Traveler
EVANS, Ga. (04/18/22) – Utilizing a thrilling last-lap, final corner pass Brandon Overton raced to the $10,053 victory on Friday night at Wythe Raceway in his No. 76 Crossfit Overton / Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells Motorsports/ Clements Racing Engines Inc.-powered Super Late Model.
The win was his sixth of the 2022 season.
“Man I don’t even know where to begin. That was a pretty exciting race with J.D. (Jonathan Davenport). I bided my time and was starting to think I might not be able to make it happen, but the door opened there on the last lap, and thankfully I was able to make it happen and got the win,” Overton said. “The rest of the weekend wasn’t the greatest for us, but we’re thrilled to get another win. We’ll head to Florida this weekend and see if we can’t turn our luck around at All-Tech Raceway. That place was challenging for us at Speedweeks, but we got a lot of notes and are ready for the challenge.”
Wells Motorsports pilot Brandon Overton returned to the driver’s seat of the No. 76 Longhorn Chassis on Thursday afternoon at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) for the inaugural Kyle Larson Presents FloRacing Late Model Challenge powered by Tezos event. With a third-place finish in his heat race pinning him on the sixth row for the $20,000-to-win A-Main, Overton raced forward three spots in the 50-lap affair to register a ninth-place finish.
The following night at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) in a field of 23 Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals entries, Overton secured his spot into the main event with a second-place finish in his heat. Starting the feature in fourth, Brandon tracked down Jonathan Davenport late in the race and began putting the heat on the race-long pacesetter.
After a pair of unsuccessful attempts to pass the leader amid lapped-traffic, Overton drove underneath Davenport in the final corner of the last lap to capture his sixth win of the season and $10,053 paycheck. He finished ahead of Davenport, Chris Ferguson, Ross Bailes, and Dale McDowell.
On Saturday evening at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) for the second annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial, Brandon topped the 36-car field in time trials before picking up a heat race win. Starting on the pole for the $21,000-to-win A-Main, Overton suffered a flat tire late in the race while running in the top-three, dropping him back to 15th when the checkered flag flew.

Cory Hedgecock Victorious in Ponderosa Debut
Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Double Shot Up Next
LOUDON, Tenn. (04/18/22) – Cory Hedgecock made a triumphant debut at Kentucky’s Ponderosa Speedway on Friday night in his E-Z-GO / Noble Knights Construction Services No. 23 Budget Transmission / K&P Used Cars / Black Diamond Race Car / Eagle Racing Engine Super Late Model.
The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory was worth $5,000 and increased Cory’s 2022-win total to six.
“The weekend started with a bit of a challenge at Volunteer Speedway, when we blew a power steering line in qualifying. That put us behind the eight ball but rallied for a solid finish. Then on Friday we hit the ground running in our first ever trip to Ponderosa Speedway. We swept the program from qualifying to the feature,” Hedgecock said. “Saturday night was our first time at Florence (Speedway), and we rallied for a Top-5 finish. Overall, I couldn’t be more proud of this team, and now we’re looking forward to hitting Tri-County (Race Track) and Crossville (Speedway) this weekend.”
On Thursday evening, Cory Hedgecock visited Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) to compete in the inaugural Kyle Larson Presents FloRacing Late Model Challenge powered by Tezos event.
In a stout field of 42 Late Models, Hedgecock charged from the tail of his heat to finish fifth after a blown power-steering line prevented him from completing a lap in his time trial session. Transferring into the B-Main, Cory streaked to a 10-lap victory, which positioned him on the ninth row for the $20,000-to-win A-Main. Racing forward five spots in a talent-laden field, Hedgecock notched a 12th-place finish in the 50-lapper.
For the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series-sanctioned Bobby Carrier Sr. Tribute on Friday evening at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.), Cory topped the 27-car field in time trials before capturing a heat race win. Earning the pole for the A-Main, Hedgecock led flag-to-flag in the 40-lapper to claim his sixth win of the 2022 campaign. He scored the $5,000 payday ahead of Zack Dohm, Tanner English, Josh Rice, and Christian Hanger.
On Saturday evening at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.), Hedgecock secured his spot into the $10,000-to-win Spring 50 with a fourth-place finish in his heat. Rolling off 14th, Cory advanced through the field nine spots in the 50-lap affair to place fifth. He followed Josh Rice, Bobby Pierce, Tyler Erb, and Ricky Thornton Jr. across the line.

Hagar Learns Throughout World of Outlaws Season Debut
Inside Line Promotions - PEVELY, Mo. (April 18, 2022) - Derek Hagar logged valuable laps in a 410ci winged sprint car last Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.
Hagar made his season debut with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, qualifying 20th quickest to kick off the action at the high-banked oval.
"I feel like we did pretty good," he said. "Qualifying was probably one of my best deals I've had. We were only three or four tenths off so I felt we were competitive. That put us starting fifth in a heat race. I had to try to do something different to stay in the top five and lock into the feature. I was trying to enter the corners above the ruts and turn back across. I could really carry speed down the backstretch and we were able to get ourselves up to third."
Hagar's run from fifth to third place in a heat race locked him into the 12 th starting spot in the A Main.
"The track kept coming apart and I was pretty tight early with a full fuel load," he said. "I was trying to hang on. Once we burned off some fuel the car got really good and I was able to get by a couple of cars, but we got lapped. Every car I passed after that didn't matter because I was a lap down. With about five or six laps to go my car felt like it went away. I couldn't get ahold of anything in the slick so I pulled in and called it a night."
Hagar was credited with a 17th-place result.
He plans on returning to 410 sprint car competition this Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., with the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League. It will mark his 410 winged sprint car debut at the track where he's been victorious during each of the last seven years.
"I think we'll be fine," he said. "We're taking the 410 car, but we have good enough notes that I think we can make a good outing."
