Brandon Overton Snares $50,000 Mountain Moonshine Classic Title
Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series Doubleheader Up Next

EVANS, Ga. (06/17/24) – Brandon Overton led flag-to-flag in Saturday night’s Mountain Moonshine Classic finale at Smoky Mountain Speedway to collect the $50,000 top prize with his Wells & Sons Motorsports No. 76 Convenient Lube / Muscle Factory/ Wells Motorsports Infinity Race Car / Clements Racing Engines - powered Super Late Model.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) victory pushed his 2024-win total to seven.

"We made the right decisions," Overton said in Victory Lane. "I think the first lap, me and Ryan (Gustin), I think we both knew how important it was to get out to clean air. We kind of rubbed down there, but that's awesome. The only two Infinity cars here run 1-2 most of the race. So, like I said, hats off to Eric and everybody back at the shop."

On a ‘special night,’ Overton also thanked his crew for helping him keep his chin up.

"My boys, you know, they've been, they've been busting their ass, man," Overton said. "I need them to keep me upbeat. You know what I mean? I'm pretty hard on myself and I get down and they've got a good attitude and (the success is credited) more to them than it is to me. They give their life to this stuff."

Brandon Overton opened a tripleheader weekend on Friday with a visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) for the two-day Mountain Moonshine Classic.

Against a field of 42 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Overton followed up a runner-up heat race showing with a seventh-place finish in Friday’s 40-lap preliminary feature.

Back at the Tennessee oval on Saturday, Brandon claimed the All Star Performance Fast Time honors with a 14.459-second lap before picking up a flag-to-flag heat race win. Despite an early challenge from fellow front-row starter Ryan Gustin in the feature, Overton cruised to a dominant $50,000 victory in Saturday’s Mountain Moonshine Classic finale.

He took the checkers ahead of Ricky Thornton Jr., Gustin, Jonathan Davenport, and Brandon Sheppard.

The six-figure payday marked his seventh win of the season and 16th career LOLMDS triumph.

Overton's weekend concluded with an eighth-place finish in Sunday's inaugural Sidney Langston Memorial at Ultimate Motorsports Park (Friendship, N.C.) aboard his Wells Motorsports No. 76 Infinity Chassis Super Late Model.

Ricky Thornton Jr. Wins $10,000 in Mountain Moonshine Classic Opener
Set to Defend Firecracker 100 Title this Weekend

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (06/17/24) – Ricky Thornton Jr. was $10,000 richer on Friday night after topping the Mountain Moonshine Classic opener on Friday night with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) aboard his SSI Motorsports / Coltman Farms / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana / Longhorn Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The win was Thornton Jr.’s 17th overall win of the season and paired with a second-place finish on Saturday night, allowed him to extend his advantage atop the latest series’ standings.

“I didn’t mind seeing that yellow,” said Thornton Jr. referring to the only caution of the race for Drake Troutman’s flat tire with 25 laps scored on Friday night. Thornton was racing in heavy traffic as McDowell had closed to within a car length of Thornton before the yellow flag waved.

“I was running too hard trying to get by the lapped cars there. I was really beating my tires. So, the yellow came out and I saw T-Mac (Tim McCreadie) get back to second and I knew he didn’t pass Dale on the bottom, so I knew I had to move up and just try and keep some speed there. Me and Ross [Robinson] hit a little bit there when I was lapping him. He was just trying to race, and he had no idea I was there so luckily it wasn’t too bad. Overall, it was a really good night for us, I think we broke the track record in qualifying.”

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) brought point-leader Ricky Thornton Jr. and 41 competitors to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) over the weekend for the two-day Mountain Moonshine Classic.

Pulling off a clean sweep in Friday’s preliminary program aboard his SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model, Ricky followed up the overall fast time honors with a flag-to-flag victory in his heat and the 40-lap preliminary. He collected $10,000 for his 17th overall win of the season.

On Saturday, Thornton followed up an uncontested heat race win with a runner-up showing in the 60-lap finale, chasing race-long pacesetter Brandon Overton the checkers with Ryan Gustin joining the podium in third.

"Especially with (Overton) being on the pole, I knew he'd be really tough to pass," Thornton said on Saturday night’s podium. "The lapped cars made it tough for him. There's a lot of them that he really had to slide and hoped they'd slow down. It's just tough at this place. It hard to really juice up the bottom to make it fast enough to compete with that middle (groove). But overall, a really good weekend for us.”

Thornton’s lead over Jonathan Davenport atop the LOLMDS point standings increased to 185 markers.

“I knew we wasn’t bad right there, I just wasn’t very good on the cushion,” Hughes said in Victory Lane on Saturday night. “We really just needed some green flag laps, so once this (track) cleaned up, you could race all over it.

“This was such a great weekend for our team. It’s awesome seeing all these fans out here. I seen so many new t-shirts walking around too. I appreciate all y’all supporting us and glad finally able to come back here in front of a packed house and put on a good show.”

He topped Ashton Winger and Payton Freeman who joined him on the podium for night one.

“Yeah, we will take it. Tyler Erb Sweeps Opening Week of the ‘Hell Tour’
Ready to Roll with Week No. 2

ST. MARYS, Ohio (06/17/24) – Tyler Erb enjoyed a dominant start to the 2024 DIRTcar Summer Nationals. In fact, he won the first three events with only Mother Nature stopping him in the week’s other two scheduled events.

His triumphs with his Bulk Material Lift / Anthony’s Pizza No. 1 Best Performance Motorsports / Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors / First Class Septic / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model came on Wednesday at Peoria Speedway, Friday at Tri-City Speedway, and Saturday at Fairbury Speedway.

His winnings for the week exceeded $25,000.

“We were looking to shake things up this year and do something different, so we decided it was time to go have some Summernationals fun. We raced three Summernationals events, and we won three Summernationals events. That’s pretty awesome,” Erb said. “Hated to see those two rainouts last week, but that’s part of the game. We’re ready to roll again this week and go after more big checks. Thank you to all our supporters and this awesome team.”

Taking part in the 39th annual DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Tyler Erb unloaded his Best Performance Motorsports / Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors No. 1 Super Late Model at Peoria (Ill.) Speedway on Wednesday afternoon for the first round of the grueling summer series.

With a heat race victory placing him on the front row for the opener, Tyler soared ahead of fast qualifier and pole-starting Dennis Erb Jr. on the opening lap and never looked back, claiming his fourth win of the season and the $5,000 winner's payday.

He finished 2.170 seconds ahead of Erb Jr. with Dillon McCowan joining them on the podium.

After Wednesday’s stop at Kankakee (Ill.) County Speedway was cancelled due to an unfavorable forecast, Erb traveled to Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) on Friday night and found himself in Victory Lane again. Starting the St. Louis Screw & Bolt 40 A-Main in the fourth position, Tyler drove around Kye Blight on the 10th circuit and went onto capture his second win in as many nights. The New Waverly, Texas driver earned $10,000 for the winning performance.

Seeking his third-straight Hell Tour victory in Saturday’s event at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway, Tyler outran Dennis Erb Jr. in the 50-lap feature to secure back-to-back $10,000 victories. After leading laps 11-26, Tyler regained the point from Dennis Erb Jr. on lap 27 and ran away with his sixth victory of the 2024 campaign.

Sunday's slated weekend finale at Sycamore Speedway (Maple Park, Ill.) was postponed by weather.

Tyler holds a 50-point advantage over the current standings.

Mallett Caps ASCS National Tour Speedweek With Second-Place Performance

Inside Line Promotions - POCOLA, Okla. (June 17, 2024) - Jordon Mallett produced a top-10 result during all four ASCS National Tour Speedweek races last week with the best saved for last.

Mallett and Brandon Anderson Motorsports posted a sixth-place finish last Tuesday at Texarkana 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Ark.; ninth-place results on Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., and Friday at Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, Okla.; and a second-place showing on Saturday at Tri-State Speedway.

The strong week landed Mallett tied for third place in the Speedweek standings.

"After Saturday night, big picture, we're in a better direction," Mallett said. "We were always good right out of the gate every night. We'd qualify good and heat race good. Then it was like in the feature we'd start strong, but not be good at the end."

Mallett qualified third quickest in his group and placed second in a heat race before advancing from eighth to sixth place in the A Main at Texarkana 67 Speedway.

"We finished sixth, but had a fourth-place car," he said. "I should have moved up to the top of the race track toward the end of the race and we'd have preserved fourth. We got blasted on a restart by a couple of guys who jumped up there and I didn't get up quick enough."

Mallett was second quickest in his qualifying group before he won a heat race and placed sixth in the dash at Creek County Speedway.

"We rolled into Creek and timed in good and heat raced good," he said. "I made an error in the dash. They had watered the track before the dash. I got too aggressive and ducked down too low going into turn one. I got into some grease and spun it out. We started sixth in the feature and we were good early on running third or fourth. About the last eight or 10 laps the car started to go away and I couldn't do anything right. It didn't matter where I ran on the track, it was like we threw a boat anchor out. Come to find out we had a bleeder break."

The team timed in second quickest in a qualifying group before finishing second in a heat race at Arrowhead Speedway.

"We were good in qualifying and the heat race, but we missed it in the feature," he said. "We could move around, but got too tight running the bottom when everybody moved down. We struggled on the top at times as well. It was just an off night in that feature."

It all came together on Saturday at Tri-State Speedway, where Mallett qualified second quickest in his group and ended third in a heat race before rallying from eighth to second place in the A Main.

"We timed in good and heat raced all right, but having to start on the inside in the heat race was not ideal," he said. "In the feature it was a cumulative effect of we were wanting to get aggressive to find something to move forward because the features had been our weak point all Speedweek. We said let's go with what we think we need and go way past that. We swung for the fences and wound up with a really good race car. We look forward to moving on because we found what helps us claw forward and be more comfortable in a feature."

The second-place showing tied a career best for Brandon Anderson Motorsports with the ASCS National Tour.

Mallett and the team will compete this Saturday at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark., with the ASCS National Tour. He placed fourth at the track in 2022 during his most recent visit.

(June 17, 2024) - Donny Schatz and Knoxville Raceway are certainly synonymous with one another, and the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion and 11-time Knoxville Nationals champion proved that notion yet again during the recent weekend, not only accomplishing back-to-back top-ten appearances, but notching a podium in the process - the tenth of the 2024 season.

Schatz, ace of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Carquest, Advance Auto Parts, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts, Mobil 1, Hoosier, VP Racing Fuels & Tub ‘O Towels, No. 15 sprint car, finished tenth and second in his two-day Knoxville campaign, kicking off the weekend with an impressive rally from 21st to secure the aforementioned tenth-place outcome.

The Fargo, North Dakota, native finished second the following evening, Saturday, June 15, advancing a pair of positions after starting fourth on the 25-lap grid. A restart with three to go gave Schatz a much-needed opportunity to pounce, but rising star and Clovis, California, native, Corey Day, held on for the $12,000 payday.

Despite the fact, Schatz’ weekend results allowed the ten-time Series champ to reclaim second in the 2024 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship chase. He currently trails nine-time winner and point leader, David Gravel, by 56 markers. Schatz owns two victories on the year, as well as 26 top-ten appearances in 29 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series starts.
