Dustin Strand Rolls Goes Three-For-Three in Weekend Action
NLRA Late Model and USMTS Modified Action Ahead

Grand Forks, North Dakota (06/25/18) – Dustin Strand couldn’t have scripted a better weekend. The North Dakota racer found Victory Lane in both his Q&Z Plumbing & Heating #71 McCaughan Builders/ Millenium Modified and his RHR Brew #71 Keewatin Truck Service/ Millenium Late Model.

By the time the final checkered flag had dropped on Strand’s weekend he had won all three events that he had entered.

“Wow, what a weekend for our team,” Strand said. “Sunday was my birthday and I joked with everyone that I don’t think I could’ve ever got a better present than three-straight wins. I knew it was going to be a good weekend, when we won on Thursday night because that was supposed to be just an R&D night. Thanks to my family, my team, and my sponsors for making this all possible.”

Behind the wheel of the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating #71 Open Wheel Modified, Dustin Strand invaded Red River Co-op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) on Thursday night, where he was competing in a field of 16 cars. Gaining one spot in his 8-lap heat race, Strand landed a runner-up finish behind Danny Staff, positioning him sixth on the starting grid for the feature.

Wheeling his way to the front, Dustin Strand topped Jerome Guyot, Danny Staff, Rick Delaine, and Ward Imrie at the line in the 20-lapper to capture his fourth win of the season.

On Friday night at River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota), Strand passed one car in his heat to pick up the 8-lap victory. Rolling off sixth for the A-Main, Dustin worked his way into a podium spot by second lap and began tracking down-race leader Troy Schill. After swapping back and forth for the lead, Dustin Strand overtook Schill on lap-10 and held the top spot for the next ten circuits registering his fifth win of the season over Ricky Weiss, Troy Schill, Mike Balcaen, and Brody Troftgruben.

Saturday night found 16 Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) competitors signed in at Greenbush Raceway Park (Greenbush, Minnesota) for the Jack Grahn Memorial. After starting the night with a heat race victory from the sixth-starting position, Strand topped the field in the feature reeling in a $1,500 payday and his sixth win of the season. Brad Seng, Joey Pederson, Ricky Weiss, and Bill Mooney completed the Top-5 finishers in the 25-lap affair.

Schatz finishes fifth at Beaver Dam; Knoxville Raceway doubleheader next

Date: Saturday, June 23rd
Event: 9th Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial presented by Karavan Trailers
Series: World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series
Track: Beaver Dam Raceway (Beaver Dam, Wis.)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finish (Start): 5th (9th)

World of Outlaws Championship Standings (as of 6/18/2018): 1st - 4140 points (84-point margin over second place, Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 25, 2018) - Although his weekend schedule was cut short by Mother Nature, losing a night of action scheduled for Friday, June 22, at Farley (Iowa) Speedway, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz managed to make the best of his recent weekend of World of Outlaws competition, ultimately clinching his 22nd top-five finish of the 2018 season and doing so from the inside of row five.

Schatz, pilot of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 15 sprint car, finished fifth on Saturday night during a visit to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Forced to start ninth by way of heat race finish (third), Schatz battled his way forward on a narrow, but fast 1/3-mile oval, eventually advancing four spots to clinch fifth at the final checkers.

“The weather hasn’t exactly been our friend this season,” Donny Schatz said of the Farley Speedway cancellation. “At least we were able to salvage the weekend and earn a top-five at Beaver Dam. All we can do now is turn our focus toward Knoxville. We have a big weekend ahead of us.”

Jason Johnson, a full-time World of Outlaws competitor, was involved in a crash during main event action at Beaver Dam Raceway. After being airlifted to a nearby hospital, Johnson would succumb from injuries related to the incident.

“Truly at a loss for words after a humbling reminder that life can change in an instant. Proud to have called Jason a Chili Bowl teammate as well as a friend.”

Up next on the schedule, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing will continue their 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series campaign with a pair of stops at the Sprint Car Capital of the World. Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, will host the Outlaws on Friday and Saturday, June 29-30, for the two-day Brownells Big Guns Bash; a perfect test session for the upcoming Knoxville Nationals in August. Schatz is certainly no stranger to competition at the famed Knoxville Raceway, claiming ten Knoxville Nationals championships over the course of his storied career, most recently scoring the $150,000 top prize in 2017.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 25, 2018) - Tony Stewart’s Ohio Sprint Speedweek campaign with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 was an up and down venture for the Columbus, Ind., native, highlighting his six-race stretch with one top-ten finish; an impressive charge from 16th to finish eighth during the Ohio Sprint Speedweek opener at Attica Raceway Park on Friday evening, June 15. There were 56 entries on hand at the Attica highbanks.

Although some results were frustrating, Smoke managed to qualify for main event action during all six of the events he entered, facing upwards of 50 entries, in some cases more, during each night of competition.

“The level of competition out here with the All Stars this season is pretty incredible. Ohio Sprint Speedweek is no easy task. Racing head-to-head with that level of competition every night can be grueling, and sometimes frustrating, but when things go your way, it is very rewarding,” Tony Stewart explained. “I’m proud of my team and what we were able to accomplish. I think our potential was cut short a few nights, but we’ll put this all behind us and move forward. We have a lot of racing left on our schedule.”

Stewart, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 14 sprint car, was on pace for his best performance of Speedweek on Wednesday at Atomic Speedway when Mother Nature stepped-in and interfered, unleashing a downpour just as feature cars were set to fire. Stewart was scheduled to start second on the feature grid, locking the outside-pole position by way of dash victory. Unfortunately, prior NASCAR commitments in California left Stewart with no choice but to miss the postponed main event that was later held on Saturday, June 23.

Up next on the schedule, Tony Stewart will rejoin the All Star Circuit of Champions this Friday and Saturday for a pair of starts in the Midwest, first visiting Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind., on Friday evening, June 29, followed by a stop at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, Ill., on Saturday, June 30. Thus far in 2018, Smoke has earned eight top-ten finishes in 15 feature starts during All Star Circuit of Champions competition, four of which accomplished inside the top-five.

Rico Abreu displays success during Ohio Sprint Speedweek; PA Sprint Speedweek begins Friday

Dates: Friday, June 15th - Saturday, June 23rd
Event: Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by C&R Racing
Series: All Star Circuit of Champions
Date: Track: Rico Abreu Finish (Start):
June 15th: Attica Raceway Park: D-Main 4th (8th)
June 16th: Eldora Speedway: A-Main 10th (17th)
June 17th: Waynesfield Raceway Park: A-Main 16th (18th)
June 18th: Wayne County Speedway: A-Main 20th (24th)
June 19th: Sharon Speedway: A-Main 4th (6th)
June 20th: Atomic Speedway: A-Main Postponed
June 21st: Muskingum County Speedway: Rain
June 22nd: Limaland Motorsports Park: Rain
June 23rd: Atomic Speedway Make-Up Feature: A-Main 7th (19th)
June 23rd: Atomic Speedway/Rick Ferkel Classic: A-Main 9th (13th)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (June 25, 2018) - Rico Abreu’s 2018 campaign officially hit high gear during the recent week, joining the All Star Circuit of Champions for Ohio Sprint Speedweek on June 15-23. The St. Helena, Cali., native earned four top-ten finishes during competition in the Buckeye State, finishing as high as fourth during action at Sharon Speedway.

Abreu’s first top-ten finish of the week occurred at the World’s Greatest Dirt Track - Eldora Speedway - on Saturday, June 16, climbing ahead from 17th to finish tenth at the end of 30 circuits. The top-ten was a major confidence booster for Abreu, as he was injured during action at Eldora Speedway near the end of the 2017 season.

Following a pair of tough starts at Waynesfield Raceway Park and Wayne County Speedway on Sunday and Monday where Abreu finished 16th and 20th, respectively, the California ace would rebound in a big way by finishing fourth at Sharon Speedway on Tuesday. Abreu battled near the front the entire distance, eventually chasing Danny Dietrich, Kyle Larson, and Christopher Bell to the final checkers.

After a stretch of wet weather that forced the cancellation of events at Muskingum County Speedway and Limaland Motorsports Park, Abreu ended his Ohio Sprint Speedweek campaign with a pair of top-ten finishes at Atomic Speedway on Saturday, June 23. Abreu kicked-off the evening by finishing seventh during Atomic Speedway’s make-up feature (originally slated for Wednesday, but was called off as feature cars were beginning to stage). The top-ten finish was the result of a charge from 19th on the grid, forced to start near the tail as the result of winning the program’s B-main.

Abreu ended Ohio Sprint Speedweek officially with a ninth place run during the inaugural Rick Ferkel Classic main event later that evening, the result of another charge through the field, this time starting from the inside of row seven.

“That was a lot of fun,” Rico Abreu explained, driver of the Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Lucas Oil/Rhino Wipe/Priority Aviation/Howard Johnson of Lima/No. 24 sprint car. “We definitely needed a week like that. We were up against nearly 50 cars every night. Nothing is a guarantee against that level of competition. I’m proud of my team and what we were able to accomplish. We are learning more and more every time we are on the track. That first win of the season is coming soon. We are well overdue.”

With Ohio Sprint Speedweek in the books, Rico Abreu will turn his attention from the Buckeye State to the Keystone State, anxious to begin Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek competition on Friday evening, June 29. Abreu will enter all ten of the Speedweek events on the schedule, set to visit seven tracks including Williams Grove Speedway, Lincoln Speedway, Port Royal Speedway, Path Valley Speedway, Hagerstown Speedway, Selinsgrove Speedway, and Grandview Speedway. Each event will award a minimum of $5,000.
