Ricky Thornton Jr. Takes Two Wins During WoO World Finals
Ready to Defend Senoia’s Peach State Classic Title

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (11/06/23) – Limited experience and limited success at The Dirt Track at Charlotte didn’t stop Ricky Thornton Jr. from collecting a pair of five-figure World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series victories over the weekend aboard his SSI Motorsports / Coltman Farms / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana / Longhorn Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Ricky pocketed a $15,000 winner’s check on Friday night before racing to the $25,000 World Finals finale win on Saturday night as his 2023 win total grew to 38.

“I think I had only been here (Dirt Track at Charlotte) in like 2010 and 2014, and out of those six nights, I only made one show. We did a lot better this year,” Thornton Jr. declared. “We had a good car on Thursday night but got caught up in an early race deal that buried us. Then on Friday and Saturday, Anthony (Burroughs), and the boys gave me a great car, and we added two wins to the total. It’s been a great year, and I can’t thank everyone enough who supports our SSI Motorsports team. Hopefully we can grab a few more wins before it’s all said and done on the year.”

Ricky Thornton Jr. was one of 74 World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series entries amassed at The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) on Wednesday to kick off the 17th running of the World Finals with a pair of qualifying sessions.

With time trials aligning heat lineups for Thursday and Friday’s full programs, Thornton backed up the sixth-fastest lap in his group in the first round with the third-quickest lap in the second session.

Back in action on Thursday, Thornton raced into the $15,000-to-win prelim with a second-place finish in his heat race but was collected in an opening lap tangle in the main event that relegated him to 11th in the finishing order.

The following night, Ricky topped Mike Marlar in his heat race to pick up the eight-lap victory, sending him into the redraw. Starting the feature in third, Thornton sailed ahead of early pacesetter Chris Madden on lap 19 and paced the final 16 circuits to claim his third-career World of Outlaws victory and the $15,000 top prize.

The weekend drew to a close on Saturday with Thornton securing his spot into the World Finals finale with a runner-up showing in his heat race. Charging from the fifth row, Ricky tracked down Cade Dillard on the 26th circuit and controlled the remainder of the 50-lapper to capture his second win in as many nights and 38th overall on the 2023 season.

He collected a $25,000 payday ahead of Mike Marlar, Chris Madden, Dale McDowell, and Garrett Smith.

Ricky now turns his attention to a Castrol FloRacing Night in America doubleheader this Friday and Saturday at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway. Friday’s program is headlined by a $20,000-to-win finale, while Saturday’s feature boasts a $54,054 top prize.

Thornton Jr. topped the event in 2023 to record the $53,053 victory. He enters the weekend fourth in the latest miniseries standings, just 88 points out of the top spot. With only a driver’s best ten finishes of the year counting toward the title, Ricky is still in championship contention.

The upcoming weekend – Nov. 10-11 – finds the team entering the final two point events during the third annual Peach State Classic at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway. On Friday, O’Neal edged into the $15,000-to-win A-Main with a second-place finish in his consolation race after failing to qualifying out of his heat race. Starting 24th, Hudson passed 12 cars in the 35-lap feature to register a 12th-place finish.

The weekend drew to an early close for the Rocket1 Racing team on Saturday after missing a transfer spot by two cars in both his heat race and B-Main.

Mike Marlar Victorious in Skyline Motorsports Debut
Senoia’s Peach State Classic Next on the Schedule

WINFIELD, Tenn. (11/06/23) – Mike Marlar enjoyed a triumphant debut with Skyline Motorsports during Thursday’s opening round of the World of Outlaws (Case) Late Model Series World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) behind the wheel of his Skyline Motorsports No. 157 / Truck Country / Bruening Rock Products / Mesilla Valley Transportation / Can-Am Auto Salvage / Petroff Towing / Longhorn Race Car / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Marlar wired the Thursday night field to pick up the $15,000 win, which marked his 12th overall win of the season and his first with Skyline Motorsports.

“What a great debut for the partnership between Skyline Motorsports and myself. These guys brought me a top-notch piece and we got the job done right out of the box. We didn’t win Friday or Saturday, but we did finish sixth and second against a really good field of racers. Definitely an exciting start to things and hopefully it’s a sign of what’s to come,” Marlar said. “Again, I thank the Bruening family and all our great supporters for making all this possible.”

Debuting in the Skyline Motorsports No. 157 Longhorn Chassis Late Model, Mike Marlar rolled into The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) on Wednesday as the 74-car World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series sanctioned field took part in time trials to set the grid for heat races on Thursday and Friday.

With the field split in two for the 17th running of the annual World Finals, Marlar topped his qualifying group in the first qualifying session before sixth-quick in the second round.

Rolling off from the pole of his heat race on Thursday, Mike outdueled fellow front-row starter Hudson O’Neal to pick up the eight-lap victory. With the redraw positioning him second on the starting grid for the feature, Marlar rocketed ahead of pole-starting Brandon Overton on the opening lap and fended off the Georgia driver throughout the 35-lap affair to secure his 12th win of the season and 17th-career World of Outlaws triumph.

He grabbed the $15,000 top prize ahead of Chris Madden, Overton, Hudson O’Neal, and Dale McDowell.

For Friday’s prelim, Marlar’s second-place finish in his heat race positioned him on the sixth row for the A-Main. Nearly cracking the top-five, Mike charged forward five spots to register a sixth-place finish.

On Saturday, Mike secured his spot into the $25,000-to-win World of Outlaws World Finals finale with a flag-to-flag performance in his eight-lap heat. Receiving the fifth-starting position for the feature via the redraw, Marlar stole second from Chris Madden in the final 10 circuits to secure the runner-up honors in the 50-lapper.

He followed Ricky Thornton Jr. across the line with Madden, Dale McDowell, and Garrett Smith rounding out the top-five.

Full results from the events are available at www.WoOLMS.com.

Marlar now turns his attention to the third annual Peach State Classic at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway this Friday and Saturday. The Castrol FloRacing Night in America doubleheader includes a $20,000-to-win program on Friday and a $54,054-to-win finale on Saturday.

Mike currently sits eighth in the latest miniseries standings.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 6, 2023) - The best of the best in sprint car competition gathered at The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the annual World of Outlaws World Finals over the recent weekend, and when the dust finally settled on Saturday night, Visalia, California’s Cory Eliason and Ridge & Sons Racing (RSR) found themselves with three straight feature attempts and a full notebook, highlighting their four-day weekend in Concord, North Carolina, with a 15th-place score on Thursday, November 2. Eliason, a two-time All Star Circuit of Champions winner in 2023, raced on to 18th and 20th-place scores the next two evenings.
