Bacon Begins USAC Title Pursuit with this Weekend’s Winter Dirt Games

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (February 12, 2020) – Brady Bacon raced to the USAC National Sprint Car championship in both 2014 and 2016.

“The Macho Man” begins his bid for a third series championship aboard the Hoffman Racing No. 69 Sprint Car with this weekend’s “Winter Dirt Games” at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“We’re looking forward to this season, we finished well last year so hopefully we can carry that over to this season,” Bacon says.  “If we can put together consistent, good finishes and minimize the bad nights, we’ll be right there.”

Bacon gets the 2020 campaign under way in earnest after a 2019 season that included 13 overall wins in 110 total starts across both winged and non-wing Sprint Cars, Silver Crown, Midgets and Micro Sprints.

Six of those triumphs came in the USAC Sprint Car ranks, including a sweep of Perris Auto Speedway’s Oval Nationals preliminary features that propelled him to a third-place finish in final season points.  Bacon posted top-ten finishes in 28 of the series last 31 races of the year while picking up his 13th and final win of the year by capturing another Western World Championship title at Arizona Speedway in USAC Midget competition.

Bacon goes into this weekend’s Winter Dirt Games with one 2020 triumph already to his credit, earning a Golden Driller at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in January by besting a field of 305 competitors in the Non-Wing Outlaw Micro Sprint division.

After posting a career-best fourth-place finish at the Chili Bowl in 2019, Bacon’s Chili Bowl luck ran out this time around.  Moving forward to contend for a top-five finish on his preliminary night, Bacon slid to a stop entering turn one and then recovered for a 14th-place finish that landed him in Saturday “D” Main action among the field of nearly 350 entries.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s Winter Dirt Games at Bubba Raceway Park, Bacon has a pair of previous wins atop the egg-shaped clay oval.  Those came in 2014 and 2016, launching what both proved to be championship seasons.  Bacon looks to kick off the 2020 USAC Sprint Car season on the right foot this weekend aboard the Hoffman Racing / Longworth Equipment Company No. 69.

Rico Abreu Racing continues partnership with Self Made Racing in 2020

ST. HELENA, Calif. (February 12, 2020) - For a second consecutive season, Self Made Racing, owned and operated by Executive Manager and Partner at multiple Sweeney car dealerships located in northeast Ohio, Derek Snyder, will partner with St. Helena, California-based Rico Abreu Racing, working together in surpassing their 2019 accomplishments which included 13 victories and 55 top-ten finishes in 76 starts.

Snyder, a motorsports philanthropist who not only enjoys supporting race teams, but also helps promote major sprint car events such as Justin Snyder’s Salute to the Troops program honoring his late brother, is excited to extend his relationship with Rico Abreu Racing and hopes to utilize the partnership in a positive and productive manner.

“I’m excited to continue this relationship with Rico Abreu and his team. Rico does such a great job interacting with his fans. He makes everyone feel so welcome and it’s easy to want to be a part of that. He’s a great ambassador to sprint car racing and we’re pleased to join his efforts,” Derek Snyder explained, who also plays a major role at Gary Kauffman Racing with Danny Dietrich at the helm. “We have a lot of fun things planned for 2020 including a surprise visit by Rico and his team at one of our Sweeney locations. We hope to have some details ironed out over the next few weeks. I couldn’t be more excited.”

Despite an early season schedule focused primarily on the West Coast, Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu Racing will eventually make their way east and headquarter themselves in the Midwest for much of the summer. Abreu’s weekend schedules will be posted as they become available.

“We’re pretty pumped to have Derek Snyder and Self Made Racing join us again in 2020. He absolutely loves racing and that’s easy to spot. He’s got a lot of passion and we want that level of enthusiasm and love for sprint car racing around our team,” Rico Abreu said. “We have some fun ideas in the works with Derek and I’m sure the fans will enjoy what we have planned. We are ready to get rolling.”

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (February 12, 2020) - Entering seven consecutive nights of competition at two of Florida’s most notable facilities, Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing opened their 2020 sprint car calendar with a big agenda and padded it with big results, eventually capping their seven-day run with four top-ten finishes and highlighting all starts with back-to-back top-five performances against the All Star Circuit of Champions at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Florida.

The ‘Steel City Outlaw’ Tim Shaffer, a former multi-time All Star Circuit of Champions champion and Knoxville Nationals champion, helped activate Tony Stewart Racing’s 2020 season, officially, by subbing-in for three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart while he was under the weather. Shaffer filled Stewart’s shoes well and earned a pair of top-ten finishes during action at Volusia Speedway Park; sixth and ninth against the All Stars and Outlaws, respectively. Although Shaffer’s sixth-place outcome during All Star action was a result of row two, the Aliquippa, Pennsylvania-native was impressive against the World of Outlaws and earned his ninth place outcome from the outside of row nine.

After Shaffer’s five-day substitution at Volusia Speedway Park, ‘Smoke’ Tony Stewart was back in charge at East Bay Raceway Park, joining the All Star Circuit of Champions during the inaugural Jean Lynch Classic / All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Winn-Dixie. Two starts ended with back-to-back top-five finishes for the recent NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee, winning each of his respective heat races in the process, as well as winning his respective dash on Monday.

“It definitely feels good to be back in the seat. I was under the weather a little bit during the events at Volusia, but I feel a lot better now and I’m ready to get after it,” Tony Stewart expressed. “It will take a little bit of time for our team to become acclimated, but we have a lot of experience on our side and I have a great crew that knows exactly what it takes to stay competitive and motivated during a busy stretch like this.”

Unfortunately, instances of bad luck and unfavorable track conditions negated TSR the possibility of at least two additional top-ten finishes, as an abrasive surface at Volusia Speedway Park on Friday, February 6, resulted in tire issues and an eventual 15th-place finish. Also, Shaffer was caught up in an opening lap altercation during World of Outlaws action at Volusia on Saturday, February 8; he was scored 27th.

Tony Stewart and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing’s upcoming plans remain uncertain, but fans are encouraged to follow along online and on social media for further updates.
