Brandon Sheppard Scores Top-5 at All-Tech
East Bay Winternationals Up Next

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (01/25/21) – Brandon Sheppard drove the Valvoline No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches/ Durham Racing Engines-powered Rocket Chassis to a Top-5 finish in Saturday’s Speedweeks stop at All-Tech Raceway.

A field of 57 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series entries converged at the Lake City, Fla. oval. After steady rain nixed Friday night’s program, all eyes were on Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale.

After timing in eighth fastest in his qualifying group, Brandon raced to a runner-up finish in his heat race to earn the ninth starting position for the feature. Advancing four positions in the 50-lap main event, Sheppard took the checkered flag in fifth behind race winner Kyle Larson, Devin Moran, Mike Marlar, and Jimmy Owens.

“We had a really fast race car tonight. As big as this place is and as good as the track was tonight, we still needed to start up front,” said Sheppard. “I can’t say enough about my guys, their working their tails off down here. We keep getting better night in and night out. We’ll keep digging and hopefully we can carry this momentum into the week at East Bay.”

Speedweeks action resumes for the team on Monday night when they kick off a six-night stretch with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla.

Drake Troutman Double Dips at East Bay Raceway Park
Crowned Winternationals Modified Champion

HYNDMAN, Pa. (01/25/21) – Drake Troutman has quickly established himself as one of motorsports’ rising young stars.

This week, he put himself in the national spotlight by piloting his Smith Transport No. 7 RFI Resources/ MB Customs/ LaSalle’s Racing Engine UMP Modified to five consecutive Top-5’s – including two victories – during the 45th Annual Winternationals.

“Honestly, it’s unreal,” Troutman said with a big smile after the race. “We went from not having any national wins with these guys, and now this week we have two. It’s amazing. This Is definitely one to remember.”

Drake Troutman kicked off his Florida Speedweeks at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla. on Tuesday. In a stout field of 48 entries, Drake topped the speed charts in time trials before coming in second in his heat race behind Tyler Nicely.

Earning the eighth-starting position for the A-Main, Troutman wasted no time advancing forward as he was up to second by lap eight, shifting his focus on race-leader Tyler Nicely.

Overtaking Nicely on the bottom as the leader rolled through the middle, Drake held off Nicely’s charge on the final lap to capture his first win of the season and a $1,000 prize. Nicely, Mike Potosky, Shane Burrows, and Jason Hughes rounded out the Top-5 finishers in the 30-lap affair.

“It’s really cool to win against this caliber of guys,” Troutman said. “[My crew] did a great job tonight. Everything worked out perfect. I knew I had a really good racecar when I got up to fourth. I didn’t think I had a winning racecar; I figured I’d be a second or third-place car. We hit lapped traffic there, where we were racing three and four-wide. Me and a lapped car about got together and Nicely pulled up alongside of us, but we had enough momentum off the top to hold on.”

For the second round of the Winternationals on Wednesday, Troutman followed up the fastest lap in his qualifying group with an eight-lap heat race victory. Starting the feature in sixth, Drake took part in a heated battle for the lead late in the 30-lapper but was slowed by lapped-traffic on the final circuit, resulting in a second-place finish behind Kevin Adams. Chris Wilson, Jason Hughes, and Devin Dixon completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Thursday, Drake notched a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Spencer Hughes, which positioned him seventh on the starting grid for the $1,500-to-win A-Main. Passing four cars in the 35-lap affair, Troutman scored a third-place finish behind Lucas Lee and Spencer Hughes, with Jason Hughes and Devin Dixon trailing them to the checkers.

The following night, Troutman came in fastest in his qualifying group before placing second in his heat behind Dale Kelley. Locked into the 12th-starting position for the A-Main, Drake paced his way forward to place himself in contention for the win as the laps winded down.

As he closed in on a podium spot with five-to-go, Troutman snuck past Nick Allen for second, shifting his focus to race-leader Devin Dixon. Executing a perfect slide job on the final lap over Devin Dixon, Drake Troutman soared to his second win of the week over Dixon, Nick Allen, Dave Hess Jr., and Kevin Adams.

“I just saw [the flagman] show five-to-go, and I knew I had to go,” Troutman said. “I was going as hard as I possibly could. The car was great. Dixon went in there and he got a little bit tight and looked like he sheared it, broke loose up here in [Turns] 1 and 2, and that helped me some.”

On Saturday for the $5,000-to-win Winternationals finale, Troutman had already locked into the redraw via his finishes the week’s preliminary events. Receiving the second-starting position, Drake faded three spots in the 75-lapper to register a fifth-place finish behind Kevin Adams, Jason Hughes, Shane Burrows, and Devin Dixon.

With his fifth consecutive Top-5 finish on Saturday night, Drake Troutman was crowned the East Bay Winternationals Modified Champion.

Friday: 7th (6th)
Saturday: 13th (9th)

BROWNSBURG, Indiana (January 25, 2021) - It took just three starts for Columbus, Indiana’s Tony Stewart to find his way to victory lane in 2021, ultimately ending his three-day visit to Arizona Speedway for the inaugural Wild Wing Shootout with a triumph on Sunday, January 24.

Cashing in for a top prize equaling $10,041, Smoke’s Wild Wing Shootout victory occurred from the pole position, eventually leading all 35 circuits around Arizona Speedway while keeping a pair of West Coast heavy hitters, DJ Netto and Dominic Scelzi, in his rearview mirror. A caution with ten circuits remaining set-up a last-ditch effort for the California duo, but the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and NASCAR Hall of Famer held strong, even withstanding multiple slide job attempts by Scelzi in the closing laps.

Smoke launched the Sunday program with the fastest time during qualifying time trials.

“This is the best track we’ve had all weekend,” said Stewart in Arizona Speedway victory lane. “We knew the start was going to be critical. I felt like we were good right from the start and we were able to set a good pace. Even when we got to traffic, we never lost momentum and we were able to get by guys fairly smoothly. We have a lot of great people behind this car and they allow us to come out here and have fun like this.”

BROWNSBURG, Indiana (January 25, 2021) - Ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, officially kicked-off his 2021 campaign and joined some of the best in the business for the three-day Wild Wing Shootout at Arizona Speedway on January 22-24. Three consecutive nights of 410 sprint car competition resulted in three consecutive top-ten results for the Fargo, North Dakota-native, highlighting the weekend with a runner-up finish on Friday, January 22.

Lining up fifth on the Friday night grid, Schatz was an obvious threat right from the start, eventually working his way through the top five before commencing an epic battle with fellow full-time Outlaw, Carson Macedo, for second. Although the pair were unable to truly challenge eventual winner Buddy Kofoid for the top spot, Schatz and Macedo’s struggle for second continued until the end of the 30-lapper, concluding with Schatz holding off Macedo in a sprint to the flagstand; Schatz’ margin over Macedo equaled three thousandths of a second.

Despite missing the podium the following two evenings, Schatz concluded the inaugural Wild Wing Shootout with back-to-back top-ten appearances, first finishing tenth on Saturday, followed by a sixth-place run during the $10,0410-to-win Shootout finale on Sunday.

In all, Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Carquest Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Sage Fruit/Digital Ally/Advance Auto Parts/Rush Truck Centers/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car, advanced eight positions during Wild Wing Shootout feature competition and kicked-off the weekend with a fast time award on Friday.

Saturday: 5th (7th)
Sunday: 4th (7th)

ST. HELENA, California (January 25, 2021) - Rico Abreu’s first weekend aboard the Works Limited No. 57 ended in success, not only scoring three consecutive top-ten finishes during the inaugural Wild Wing Shootout at Arizona Speedway in San Tan Valley, Arizona, but Abreu improved his finishing position each time out, eventually capping the three-race spectacle, battling head-to-head with some of the best 410 racers in the country, with a fourth-place run on Sunday, January 24.

With Paul Silva on the wrenches, Rico Abreu, driver of the Works Limited, Lucas Oil, Curb Records, No. 57 sprint car, kicked-off Wild Wing Shootout action with a sixth-place result on Friday, a jump of four sports after starting tenth on the feature grid. The following evening, Abreu bettered his result and advanced from row four to finish fifth, ending the 30-lap program between Gio and Dominic Scelzi, respectively.

The St. Helena, California-native was forced to start seventh once again on Sunday, but the six-time main event winner in 2020 was not deterred, eventually climbing three spots to finish fourth during the 35-lap, $10,041-to-win Wild Wing Shootout finale.

Tony Stewart was the finale winner, followed by Dominic Scelzi, DJ Netto, and Abreu.

“It was a great weekend for this Works Limited 57. To come right out of the box and show speed all three nights says a lot about our potential together. We still have some things to work on, but I’m confident we have what it takes to be competitive every night we roll out of the trailer,” Rico Abreu said, who scored a pair of top-fives at Arizona Speedway during the annual Copper Classic in November. “I’m excited to see what the future brings for this team.”
