Sheppard Notches Pair of Podiums in East Bay Winternationals
Florida Speedweeks Continues at Bubba Raceway Park

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (02/01/21) – Brandon Sheppard and the Rocket1 Racing team rolled into East Raceway Park on Monday to kick off the 45th Annual Wrisco Industries Winternationals at “The Clay by the Bay.”

During the course of the weeklong affair, Sheppard drove the Valvoline No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches/ Durham Racing Engines-powered Rocket Chassis to a pair of podium finishes.

As the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series converged on Tampa, Fla. for the first of six races during the annual Winternationals, Sheppard started his night by timing in second quick in his qualifying group.

After winning his heat race, Brandon started third on the grid for the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win feature. Several cautions throughout the race plagued a competitive battle for the lead. In the end, Hudson O’Neal would hold off Sheppard in the closing laps to take the win by just 0.359 seconds. Brandon Overton, Devin Moran, and Earl Pearson Jr. would round out the Top-5 finishers.

On Tuesday night, Brandon Sheppard once again posted the second-fastest time in qualifying before streaking to a heat race victory to earn the fourth-starting position for the $5,000-to-win feature.

Sheppard ran among the Top-4 the entire race until a right-rear flat tire on the final lap drew the caution and forced him to the hot pit area. With only one-lap remaining, Brandon only managed to salvage a 19th-place outing.

On Wednesday Brandon started the night by blazing to the fastest time in his qualifying group and backed it up with a heat race win to earn the pole position for the $7,000-to-win feature.

After Mother Nature shifted the 40-lapper to Thursday night, Sheppard spun out while running fourth on the third lap following contact with another competitor. Methodically working his way back through the field, Brandon registered a ninth-place finish.

For Thursday’s regularly scheduled $7,000-to-win program, Brandon crossed the finish line in 12th after advancing six spots from his 18th starting position.

On Friday evening, Sheppard fell one spot short of a transfer spot in his heat race, sending him to a B-Main. Finishing second, Brandon locked into the 23rd starting position for the $12,000-to-win feature. He would go on to finish 15th in the 50-lap affair.

Wrapping up the 45th Annual East Bay Winternationals on Saturday, Brandon earned his spot in the $15,000-to-win finale with a heat race victory. Starting the 50-lapper from outside the front, Sheppard led the first 13 circuits before slipping to third place finish at the checkers.

“We had a good car at the beginning of the week. We struggled in the middle of the week, but we got it back going here at the end,” Sheppard said of his Rocket Chassis house car team. “We had fun out there tonight. We got to lapped traffic there pretty heavy when I was leading and Terbo got by and McCreadie got by me. … We never really got to lapped traffic again to be able to dice it up. I was hoping we would, but the caution kept coming out.”

The Florida Speedweeks action continues with a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series doubleheader at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala. A full program is on tap for Monday and Tuesday, highlighted by a $10,000-to-win main event each night.

Tyler Erb Pockets a Pair of East Bay Winternationals Victories
Bubba Raceway Park Next on Speedweeks Docket

ST. MARYS, Ohio (02/01/21) – Tyler Erb continued his red-hot start to the 2021 season with a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victories during the 45th Annual Wrisco Industries Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park.

For the second stop of the Florida Speedweks, Tyler Erb followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla. on Monday. for the opening round of the Wrisco Industries Winternationals. In a stout field of 76 cars, Erb laid down the eighth fastest time in his qualifying group before picking up a heat race win in his Industrial Resourcing Group No. 1 Best Performance Motorsports/ Rocket Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Starting the opening night feature in fifth, Tyler wrestled the lead away on the eighth lap and held the top spot until lap 17 when contact with another competitor sent him into a spin. Marching from the tail of the field over the remaining distance, Erb salvaged a seventh-place outing.

On Tuesday, Tyler followed up the tenth fastest lap in his time trial group with a second-place finish in his heat race behind Kyle Bronson. Earning the ninth-starting position for the feature, Erb began his charge forward early overtaking Brian Shirley for third on lap 18.

With Brandon Overton and Brandon Sheppard battling it out for the top spot up front, Tyler closed in on the leaders as the laps wind down. After sneaking past Sheppard on lap 24 on the bottom, Erb stayed loyal to the bottom groove, sliding ahead of Overton for the lead on lap 28.

With a caution realigning the field on the final lap, Tyler Erb held off Overton’s last-lap charge to secure his third win of the season and a $5,000 prize. Overton, Brian Shirley, Josh Richards, and Kyle Bronson completed the Top-5 finishers in the 30-lap affair.

“I thought that would have made a great tv thing. We were able to pull through. It made my heart skip a beat when I headed to the checkered and then the caution came out. I was not happy about that. We definitely had to work for everything we have gotten this week. I can’t thank the crew enough for all they do. Eric Brock gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to drive his car and we hope to be in for a long time.”

The following night for the third round of the Winternationals, Erb posted a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Brandon Overton, which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the $7,000-to-win A-Main. After Mother Nature shifted the 40-lapper to Thursday night, Tyler rebounded to finish 13th after getting involved in a tangle on the sixth circuit.

In Thursday night’s regularly scheduled program, Tyler laid down the ninth fastest qualifying time before picking up an eight-lap heat race victory. With $7,000 on the line in the feature, Erb faded back to a 13th-place outing.

During Friday night’s $12,000-to-win program, Tyler was disqualified following an on-track incident with another competitor.

Returning for Saturday’s finale, Erb charged to a convincing heat race win to lock into the fourth-starting position for $15,000-to-win feature. Erb was able to get the lead from Brandon Sheppard on lap 14. He held the top spot until a lap 19 restart when Tim McCreadie took over.

McCreadie started to pull way until a caution appeared with 32 laps scored. On the ensuing restart, Tyler went from third in the running to retake the lead. Holding off Jonathan Davenport at the checkers by 0.322 seconds, Erb sailed to his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season. Sheppard, McCreadie, and Hudson O’Neal rounded out the Top-5.

“The top was pretty hard to run and I gave up the lead on a restart by running up there. I was like man, that could have been the race! McCreadie drove off and he was good. I really didn’t have much traction on the restarts, and I picked the top. I had a really good run on those guys, but needed a little luck. He [McCreadie] just kind of missed the bottom getting into one and I was able to get by him.”

“Randall [Edwards] was showing me that my lead was getting a little close at the end, so I just tried to hit my marks. I got real wide on that last corner and hoped for the best. I just tried not to burn my stuff up.  This is the first time we ever put a different tire on here and it worked out. I am just super excited to win.”

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will wrap up their edition of the 2021 Florida Speedweeks with a doubleheader at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala. A complete program is on tap for Monday and Tuesday, highlighted by a $10,000-to-win feature each night.

Stormy Scott Scores Breakthrough Victory at East Bay
Bubba Raceway Park Winter Nationals on Deck

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (02/01/21) – After two seasons with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Stormy Scott finally broke through for his first career series victory Thursday at East Bay Raceway Park.

Scott marched forward from his ninth starting spot in the Rancho Milagro Racing No. 2S Mesilla Valley Transportation/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engines Super Late Model to earn the $7,000 payday.

“We probably had the roughest two years I’d say in Late Models there probably is,” said Scott, an accomplished open wheel star with 49 career United State Modified Tour Series victories. “We started at the hardest level and everybody thought we were fools for doing it. You know, I can’t stand defeat and every time we got kicked in the side I guess we just keep going.”

On Monday evening, Johnny Scott joined his brother Stormy at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla. for the opening round of the Wrisco Industries Winternationals. In a stout field of 76 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series entries, both drivers failed to transfer out of their heat races, sending them into the B-Main for another shot at the $5,000-to-win opening night feature. Needing to place second or better to make the show, Johnny finished 10th while Stormy came in 13th.

The following night, Johnny edged his way into the feature with the third and final transfer spot in his heat. Stormy followed up a 10th place finish in his heat with a fourth-place outing in his B-Main, forcing him to rely on a provisional into the A-Main. With $5,000 on the line, Johnny advanced through the field 11 spots to register a seventh-place finish. Stormy was an early retiree from the 30-lapper on lap 21.

For the third round of the Wrisco Winternationals on Wednesday evening, Johnny came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth-place finish while Stormy trailed him across the line in sixth. Transferring the Top-2 out of the B-Main and into the $7,000-to-win A-Main, Johnny ran into mechanical issues early that saw him retire on the fourth lap while Stormy finished the 10-lapper in fifth.
On Thursday, Stormy followed up the second fastest lap in his time trial group with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Brian Shirley. Johnny posted a sixth-place finish in his heat race before fading back to a 17th-place outing in his B-Main.

Earning the ninth-starting position for the A-Main, Stormy blasted into the Top-5 early and began closing in on Brian Shirley and Bobby Pierce as they exchanged the top spot.

Overtaking Shirley for the lead following a caution on the fourth lap, Stormy led the remaining distance of the 40-lapper on the bottom en route to his first win of the season and first career triumph with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Finishing ahead of Kyle Bronson, Tim McCreadie, Frank Heckenast Jr., and Brian Shirley, Scott pocketed $7,000.

“I knew when I moved up the track just a little bit I couldn’t steer and I started watching in front of me and noticed that nobody else up there could steer either,” said Scott. “I figured even though it felt like I could get out and run faster, as long as I didn’t get off the bottom … if somebody could get by me out in that middle, then they deserved this win more than me ‘cause I just didn’t think you could go up there.”

The winner’s share was increased to $12,000 on Friday night. After a runner-up finish in his heat race, Stormy raced to a 13th-place outing in the 50-lap feature. Johnny fell just one spot short of transferring into the night’s main event with a third-place finish in his B-Main.

On Saturday, Stormy was an early retiree from the $15,000-to-win East Bay Winternationals finale while Johnny advanced 5 spots to record a 16th-place outing.

Brandon Overton Notches First Win of 2021 at East Bay
Leads Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Standings

EVANS, Ga. (02/01/21) – One of the most consistent drivers of the week, never finishing outside the Top-10, Brandon Overton broke through Friday night for a $12,000 victory in the 45th Annual Wrisco Industries Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park.

Driving the Wells Motorsports No. 76 Crossfit Overton/ Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells/ Clements Racing Engine-powered Super Late Model, Overton fell back to as far as eighth before marching forward to the victory.

"I was starting to feel like I was going to leave here without winning, and that wasn't sitting well with me," said Overton. "So I'm glad I got it done."

On Monday at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla. for the opening round of the Wrisco Industries Winternationals, Overton topped the stout 76-car field of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series entries in qualifying before picking up a 10-lap heat race victory.

Locked into the second-starting position for the opening night feature, Brandon slipped one spot in the caution-plagued 30-lap affair to register a third-place finish behind Hudson O’Neal and Brandon Sheppard. Devin Moran and Earl Pearson Jr. completed the Top-5 finishers.

For another $5,000-to-win feature on Tuesday, Brandon followed up the third fastest lap in his time trial group with an eight-lap heat race win. Starting the feature in fifth, Overton whizzed past race-leader Brian Shirley on the tenth lap to assume command of the top spot.

After battling with Brandon Sheppard late in the 30-lapper, Brandon was overtaken by Tyler Erb in the closing laps to place him second on the final rundown behind Erb. Brian Shirley, Josh Richards, and Kyle Bronson rounded out the Top-5.

The following night, Overton timed in third fastest in his qualifying group before picking up an eight-lap heat race victory. After Mother Nature postponed Wednesday night’s feature to late Thursday, Brandon muscled forward four spots to register a runner-up finish behind Josh Richards. Hudson O’Neal, Brian Shirley, and Devin Moran trailed them to the checkers.

For Thursday night’s regularly scheduled program, Brandon edged his way into the $7,000-to-win A-Main with the third and final transfer spot in his heat race. Starting in 17th, Overton weaved through the field seven spots to come home in ninth.

On Friday, Overton followed up the fastest lap in his time trial group with an eight-lap heat race victory. Earning the second-starting position for the main event, Brandon faded outside the Top-10 early but began reeling in race-leader Tim McCreadie near the halfway point of the 50-lapper.

Sliding ahead of McCreadie on lap 29, Overton led the remaining distance to capture his first win of the season and a $12,000 prize. He took the checkers ahead of Tyler Bruening, McCreadie, Devin Moran, and Shane Clanton.

"I just got the lead there at the right time, right before (the track) started streaking up," Overton said. "But I knew if I just kept hanging around the top three, I'd get us one before the end of the week."

Closing out the 45th Annual Wrisco Industries Winternationals on Saturday, Brandon came one spot short of a transfer spot in his heat with a fourth-place outing, sending him into the B-Main for another shot at the $15,000-to-win finale.

Streaking to a 10-lap consolation victory, Overton locked into the 19th-starting position for the A-Main. Wheeling his way into the Top-10, Brandon Overton passed 11 cars in the 50-lap affair to register an eighth-place finish.

Overton’s consistency throughout the weeklong affair has paid off. He leads the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series standings as the series heads to Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla. on Monday for a doubleheader. A full program is on tap both nights, featuring a $10,000 top prize.
