Brandon Sheppard Sweeps WoO Weekend at Davenport
Rocket1 Racing Prepares for Eldora Speedway

SHINNSTON, W.V. (06/01/20) – Brandon Sheppard made a clean sweep of the World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series “Inside Out” weekend at Davenport (IA) Speedway.

In thrilling fashion, Sheppard drove the Valvoline No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches/ Durham Racing Engines-powered Rocket Chassis to a margin of victory just .007 seconds over Ricky Thornton Jr. on Friday night at Davenport’s 1/4-mile oval. On Saturday, Sheppard conquered the 1/2-mile oval to complete a weekend sweep of the doubleheader.

Sheppard qualified second in his group and picked up a 10-lap heat race win to notch his spot in the redraw. Starting the 30-lapper in fourth, Brandon had made his way into second and begun to track down race-leader, Bobby Pierce by the halfway point.

Catching Pierce with some assistance from lapped traffic, Sheppard and Ryan Unzicker, took him three-wide down the backstretch. Sheppard had come out ahead, snatching the lead away on the bottom side and the driving away into lapped traffic when the caution flew on lap 18.

On the restart, Thornton Jr. overtook Sheppard on the outside for the top spot. From there, the duo ran side-by-side, door-to-door, and wheel-to-wheel for a near perfect six laps, unofficially swapping the lead countless times.

Thornton Jr. had distanced himself on lap 26, but the Rocket1 Racing Valvoline No. 1 wasn’t done yet. Sheppard crossed Thornton Jr. to take the point at the white flag. Thornton Jr. didn’t back down and regained control in Turn 1. They duo touched out of Turn 2 and crisscrossed down the backstretch. From there, the two ran door-to-door through the final turns to the checkered flag. In one of the closest finishes in WoO history, it was Sheppard who came out on top for the win.
“I can’t thank all of my guys enough — Mark, Dan, Austin, Joel — for sticking behind me,” Sheppard stated. “We’ve definitely been struggling lately, but at the same time our feature stuff has been great still. It just all goes back to qualifying. We got it together tonight and qualified front row of a heat race, that’s what we needed to do get in a position at the front of the feature.”

After another convincing heat race win on Saturday, Sheppard drew fourth in the feature redraw to start the 40-lap event from the outside of row two. Sheppard made his move on the high side to take the lead on lap five and never looked back.

Surviving a string of caution periods, Sheppard was in command of the entire race. In the end, Brandon drove away from the field to a 2.086 second advantage as he crossed the finish line for his 58th career WoO victory and his seventh overall win of 2020 for Rocket1 Racing.

“It feels so great to be back in victory lane,” Sheppard said. “We got our confidence back [Friday] night, it was a tough fought battle, but we did it. Tonight, everybody’s confidence was higher. We qualified good, won the heat race, and that was the key to getting another win. I can’t thank Mark, Dan, Austin, Joel, and all the guys back at the shop enough; this car has been a dream to drive.”

Sheppard extended his lead in the WoO Morton Buildings Late Model Series Championship standings. For more results from these events and complete series standings, please visit www.WoOLMS.com.

Earns $5,000 Payday at Tyler County Speedway

WAYNESBORO, Va. (06/02/20) – Logan Roberson is no stranger to Victory Lane, having earned over 25 career wins in the Crate Late Model ranks. However, Thursday’s celebration was unlike any other for the 22-year-old.

Roberson piloted his Wynbridge Inc. No. 17 RBS Auto Sales/ BTS Towing Service/ Rocket Chassis to his first-career Super Late Model victory in the King of the Ring 40 at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, W.V.

“I’m honestly still in shock, it hasn’t sunk in yet,” said an emotional Roberson following the win. “This is a dream come true. This was this first race that my mom and dad didn’t attend with me, I just wanted to make them proud. I can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done to support my career. Also, a big thanks to all of our fans and sponsors.”

After the crew thrashed overnight to get his car ready to race, Logan made the six-hour trek to Tyler County Speedway. With 30 Super Late Models on hand, Roberson secured his spot into the main event with a 10-lap heat race victory.

After multiple botched starts in the feature, Logan shot out to an early lead and looked to have the top spot locked up until a caution appeared on lap 26. Holding off a charging Max Blair in the closing laps, Roberson went on to his first win of the season. Taking the checkers ahead of Blair, Kyle Thomas, Mike Benedum, and Colten Burdette, Roberson earned a $5,000 payday.

On Saturday afternoon at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway, Roberson started the night off with a heat race victory but after a Top-8 invert he was placed eighth on the starting grid for the $2,000-to-win A-Main.

After wheeling his way into a podium position, Logan faded one spot late in the 25-lapper to place fourth behind Kyle Lee, Trever Feathers, and Nick Dickson with Justin Weaver coming in fifth.

Kerry Madsen Charges From 18th to Fifth During World of Outlaws Show at Lake Ozark

Inside Line Promotions - ELDON, Mo. (June 1, 2020) - Big Game Motorsports driver Kerry Madsen posted his first top-five outing of the season during World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series competition last Friday at Lake Ozark Speedway, where the night started on a rough note.

"We drew a bad number for qualifying and there was a lot of drop off on the track so we didn't get the best time," he said. "Then I got taken out on the first lap of the heat race. The guys had to replace the front axle in the work area. We got back out and restarted last, but we drove up to fifth."

The Killer Instinct Crossbows backed team overcame a qualifying result of 22nd and a crash in the heat race to garner the final lock-in position into the main event. Madsen started 18th and maneuvered to a fifth-place finish, which was his second of the season and first in a World of Outlaws event.

"I think it was just a good race car," he said. "I got some good restarts in either line. We were maneuverable. It puts the confidence there that we're doing the right things. The car speed is there. It's a matter of putting full nights together and consistently being up front."

The 13 positions gained were the second most during the main event.

Unfortunately, Madsen ran into more misfortune on Saturday. He once again went out late in qualifying, which put the team in a hole early.

"We drew a late number and same deal," he said. "The track changed while I was going up and I wasn't on the right line at all so we qualified bad. We got up to fourth in the heat and was pretty good."

Madsen, who qualified 23rd, rallied from sixth to fourth place in the heat race to earn the 15th starting position in the A Main.

"We got taken out on Lap 2 of the main event," he said. "I was on the bottom and someone cleaned me out from the infield. They went screaming into turn three and clobbered me. It's just racing."

The team was unable to repair the damage in time to restart the race.

"I think it's all there, but we haven't had any luck," Madsen said. "It's insane the stupid stuff that's been happening. The car is quick. The luck stuff will turn around. We should be pretty good when it does."

Big Game Motorsports plans to head to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., this Friday and Saturday for the next World of Outlaws event. Madsen charged from 15th to sixth during last year's lone World of Outlaws race at the oval. He won a Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series event at the track in September 2018.

Sides Posts Season-Best World of Outlaws Result at Lake Ozark Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - ELDON, Mo. (June 1, 2020) - Jason Sides recorded his best finish of the season during World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series action on Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway.

While the 12th-place result wasn't what Sides aimed for, it was a step in the right direction during what has been a wild 2020 season.

"We changed the car from Friday to Saturday and it seemed like it helped," he said. "We weren't that great, but throughout the feature it got a little better. We could move around. Once the track cleaned off we got a little faster and better."

Sides kicked off the doubleheader on Friday by qualifying 13th quickest. He then finished where he started - fourth - in a heat race to lock into the main event. The night concluded with a 17th-place feature finish.

"We were decent most of the night," he said. "In the feature I was trying to get underneath somebody and I spun out to keep from hitting him. I was a little ticked at myself and ran in a little harder and passed a few cars those last few laps. Maybe I need to make myself madder earlier each race."

Saturday featured an improvement as Sides placed 12th in qualifying and fourth in a heat race before gaining four positions in the A Main to end 12th.

"The later in the race it went the better it got," he said. "That could be the fuel coming off and the track getting cleaned off. We caught up to those guys in front of us and raced with Ian Madsen and Sheldon Haudenschild for a top 10. Finishing 12th wasn't great, but with who we were racing with I felt good."

Next up is a World of Outlaws two-day event at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., this Friday and Saturday. His most recent top 10 at the oval came in 2016.

"A two-day show anywhere right now is good," he said. "We've had some decent runs there in the past. It's all about getting qualified well. Then we can worry about everything from then on."

Old School Racing's Tankersley Tackling Trio of All Star Shows This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - PETTY, Texas (June 1, 2020) - Channin Tankersley will make his season debut with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 this weekend.

The Old School Racing driver plans to compete on Thursday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.; on Friday at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla.; and on Saturday at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oktaha, Okla., during the Cometic Gasket Thunder Through the Plains presented by Hercules Tires.

"It's definitely a learning curve," he said comparing 410ci sprint car racing to his usual 360ci sprint car competition. "The car reacts a little different between how you drive them and the adjustments you do to them. The next two weeks will be a steep learning curve for us. Hopefully we learn something that can help translate to our 360 program, too.

"I'd be pretty satisfied if we could make all the shows and run consistently in the top 10. I'd be pretty happy with that."

Tankersley has earned four top fives in five races this season, including a runner-up result last Saturday at 82 Speedway during a Sprint Car Bandits Series event. One of those races this season was in a 410 and he made the most of it, qualifying 10th quickest out of the 32 drivers before placing third in a heat race and fifth in the main event on April 25 at Park Jefferson International Speedway in North Sioux City, S.D.

This weekend will offer another great car count as Tankersley returns to Lawton Speedway for the first time since 2017 before making his debut at Red Dirt Raceway and Outlaw Motor Speedway.

"I've probably raced at Lawton 10 times," he said. "We've been decent. A couple of years ago we ran fifth during an ASCS National Tour Speedweek show. We've run second and third a couple of times there, too.

"I grew up on the bullrings. It's like second nature with the similarities. That should help rolling into these tracks this weekend."

Brian Brown Heading to Knoxville Raceway Opener and All Star Show at 81 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - ELDON, Mo. (June 1, 2020) - Brian Brown is excited to venture to his favorite track - Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa - this Saturday before joining the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions on Sunday in Kansas.

The two races come on the heels of a frustrating weekend with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

May 29 - Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. - Qualifying: 26; Heat race: 8 (7); B Main: DNF (10).

"Qualifying is normally our strong suit," Brown said. "For whatever reason this weekend it was our worst suit. The track did slow down and change a bit from beginning to end, but Sheldon (Haudenschild) went out and laid down a good lap so it was there if you made a great lap. I made one good corner each lap, but they were at opposite ends. If you mess one up you don't qualify well. That was the Achilles Heel. We didn't run well in the heat because you're trying to get better. Then in the B Main we were racing midpack and got together with Rico (Abreu). That broke my right front shock off the axle and ended our night."

May 30 - Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. - Qualifying: 31; Heat race: DNF (8); B Main: DNS (15).

"We drug some of our gremlins over from Friday to Saturday," Brown said. "We had our car off a bit for qualifying. In the heat race me and Cale Thomas came together and it knocked my front end out; just wrong place at the wrong time. When you're slow a lot of times you're the bug and not the windshield. It was one of those weekends you want to forget as quick as you can."

UP NEXT - Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, and Sunday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions

"Thanks need to go out to Kendra Jacobs, John McCoy, the race committee and the fair board, the governor, and city and county officials for all the hard work that went into this," Brown said. "There's a lot of things behind the scenes that has allowed us to do this. Hopefully this is the beginning to do everything right where we can have the 2020 Knoxville Nationals be as close to the normal Knoxville Nationals as we've had in the past. I think that's the goal. Do everything they say and hopefully as weeks go by they allow us to have more fans. I'm excited to get back there. For me and our team confidence-wise this couldn't come at a better time. It's a good way for us to hit the reset button. Hopefully we can put together a good night and carry some momentum into 81 Speedway.

"The All Stars have an awesome schedule set up for their drivers the next couple of weeks. We've won some races at 81 Speedway. From what I've heard it's a new track owner and they did some things to the facility. I'm excited to see what that is, too. It will be a fun weekend."

Price Preparing for First 410 Sprint Car Starts of Season After Up and Down Weekend in Oklahoma

Inside Line Promotions - POCOLA, Okla. (June 1, 2020) - Robbie Price highlighted a two-race weekend in the state of Oklahoma with a ninth-place finish on Friday at Creek County Speedway.

Price followed that up with a 16th-place run on Saturday at Tri-State Speedway to conclude the ASCS Sooner Region doubleheader.

"It wasn't a bad weekend, but it wasn't all that great either," he said. "I struggled all weekend from a driver standpoint and it was definitely one of the most frustrating weekends of the year."

Friday's event at the bullring in Sapulpa began with Price starting from the pole position in a heat race. Unfortunately, he was spun out early and had to rally from the back to finish fourth. Price then lined up eighth in a qualifier. He passed three cars before blowing a tire and crossing the finish line on his rim to finish fifth.

As a result, Price had to run the B Main, which he won to earn the 15 th starting spot in the feature. He dropped early after committing to the top side of the track. Once he moved down the track, Price started to make up ground on the leaders before momentum stalled out just inside the top 10 for a ninth-place finish.

"Creek County was just a tough night," he said. "I felt like I hit everything but the pace truck. I went up top in the feature and I just stayed up there too long. Once we got to the bottom we made up some ground, but it was too little too late."

Price traveled 141 miles east to Tri-State Speedway on Saturday. He started third in a heat race and finished fourth, which was good enough to lock himself into the feature in the 14th starting spot.

Price struggled to find a line where he felt comfortable on the dusty track. He ultimately fell backwards two spots to finish in the 16 th position, good enough for his sixth top-20 outing of the season.

"We were decent early in the night, but I was just racing guys too long in the heats and not really moving forward," he said. "In the feature we were not very good at all and I think that was mostly on me. I didn't drive a smart race and ultimately I have to take the blame there."

Price will be staying in Oklahoma this weekend, but it will be a bit of a change as he will make his first 410ci sprint car starts of the 2020 race season. Price will join the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 for three nights of racing on Thursday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton; on Friday at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker; and on Saturday at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oktaha during the Cometic Gasket Thunder Through the Plains presented by Hercules Tires.

"Pretty much every show we've been to this season has had at least 40 cars and I don't expect this to be any different," he said. "It hasn't been a great season by any means so maybe a change of scenery in the cars will do the trick in getting our season on track.
