Brandon Sheppard Snares Second-Career Silver Dollar Nationals Title
Elkhorn 100 and Prairie Dirt Classic Up Next

NEW BERLIN, Ill. (July 24, 2023) — The hard work this season for Brandon Sheppard and Sheppard Riggs Racing paid big dividends on Saturday night as the Illinois racer streaked to the $53,000 triumph in 13th annual Silver Dollar Nationals presented by MyRacePass.

Sheppard’s fifth overall win of the season was achieved at Huset’s Speedway aboard his Valvoline / TrueTimber No. B5 WYLD GEAR / Riggs Drilling Solutions / Bilstein / Longhorn Chassis / Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model, and he had to fend off a hard-charging Bobby Pierce to secure his second win in the mega event.

“Man, them guys were making it hard on me for sure. The track it was awesome. It was treacherous out there. I was tight about halfway thru the race thru three and four and they had me messed up and a little bit worried. Once I moved to the top in one and two I kind of started slowing down my entry into three and four and that helped me out a bunch then all the lapped cars were on the bottom, so I just committed myself to the top for the rest of the race. I got a smooth rhythm going and I was just able to hold them guys off.  Bobby [Pierce] and Hudson [O’Neal] have been really tough this year, we’ve had our ups and downs all year long. Our win column isn’t as good as we would have liked it to be,” Sheppard said.

“This one means a lot to me. I won it with the Rocket House Car a couple of years ago and to do it at a new racetrack, it’s a short track. We were battling hard there and that’s what you get when you run short tracks. This place is awesome. We battled a lot with Mother Nature this weekend, but the track guys did a phenomenal job on the track the whole time. It got a little one lane the first night, but you will have that occasionally. Like I said hats off to the track crew.”

With a scheduled off weekend for the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series, Sheppard Riggs Racing and Brandon Sheppard trekked to Huset's Speedway (Brandon, S.D.) to kick off the Silver Dollar Nationals weekend with Thursday's Go 50.

Drawing 36 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Sheppard raced his way into the preliminary feature with a fifth-to-third showing in his heat. Chasing a $12,000 top prize, Brandon advanced forward six spots in the 50-lapper to finish sixth.

With Mother Nature shifting Friday's two scheduled rounds of heat races to Saturday afternoon, Brandon followed up a second-place finish in the first round on Saturday with a sixth-to-first charge in his second heat.

Earning the pole for Saturday night's Silver Dollar Nationals finale via passing points accumulated in heats, Sheppard led flag-to-flag in the 80-lap affair to capture his fifth win of the season and second-career Silver Dollar Nationals triumph. He fended off charges from Bobby Pierce and Hudson O'Neal to claim the $53,000 payday.

Nick Hoffman Tops Iron-Man Late Model Series at Atomic
WoO Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury Speedway Up Next

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (07/24/23) – Nick Hoffman parked his Tye Twarog Racing / NOS Energy Drink No. 9 C&W Trucking / Longhorn Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model in Victory Lane on Saturday night at Atomic Speedway.

His first career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory was worth $7,500 and marked his third overall triumph of the season.

“We had a great car all weekend. We came up one spot short on Friday night at Moler [Raceway Park], but got the job done on Saturday at Atomic [Speedway]. The made the right adjustments for the feature on Saturday. The track locked down before halfway so it was important to not make any mistakes and miss the rubber,” Hoffman said.

“We drove home all night and got home at 7 a.m. Sunday morning to get the car ready for Fairbury [Speedway] this week. We are pumped for the Prairie Dirt Classic. It’s always a blast to go there. Thanks to everyone that makes this program possible.”

Kicking off a pair of events in The Buckeye State, Nick Hoffman took his Tye Twarog Racing No. 9 Late Model into battle at Moler Raceway Park (Williamsburg, Ohio) on Friday afternoon for the Dustbuster 40.

Drawing 46 Late Models for the unsanctioned event, Hoffman claimed the fast time honors in time trials with a blazing 12.903-second lap before placing first in his heat race.

Starting the $6,000-to-win A-Main in fourth, Nick gained two positions in the 40-lap affair to register a second-place finish. He chased race-long pacesetter Josh Rice to the checkers with Zack Dohm rounding out the podium.

For the Valvoline Iron-Man Northern Series-sanctioned Summer Shootout on Saturday at Atomic Speedway (Alma, OH), Nick followed up the second-fastest qualifying effort with an eight-lap heat race victory.

Earning the second-starting position for the feature, Hoffman soared into the lead on the drop of the green flag and led flag-to-flag in the 40-lapper to claim his third win of the season and $7,500 payday.

He finished 0.695-seconds ahead of Josh Rice with Doug Drown, Zack Dohm, and Seth Daniels completing the top-five finishers.

Full results from the events are available at www.MRPRacewayPark.com and www.IMDirt.net .

Hoffman resumes action with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series on Friday and Saturday with the 2023 running of the Prairie Dirt Classic. The field will be divided into $5,000-to-win qualifying features on Friday followed by a $50,000-to-win finale on Saturday, which includes a $500 bonus for each lap led.

Nick is currently fourth in the latest WoO standings and continues to lead the WoO Rookie of the Year battle.

Hudson O’Neal Third in Silver Dollar Nationals Mega Finale
Team Next Heads to Off Road Speedway and Fairbury Speedway

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (07/24/23) – Hudson O’Neal piloted the Rocket1 Racing / Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model to a third-place finish in Saturday night’s $53,000-to-win Silver Dollar Nationals finale at South Dakota’s Huset’s Speedway.

Hudson kept the team’s familiar No. 1 entry in the thick of things throughout the 80-lap finale on what proved to be an aggressive track surface.

“That was brutal up around the that cushion, it wasn’t brutal for the race cars, man it was on us. I was dead about the last ten laps. Man, it was a good race me, Shepp [Brandon Sheppard] and Bobby [Pierce), I think you could have thrown a blanket over us the last 30 or 40 laps or whatever it was. I thought it was a great race,” O’Neal shared. “There was sometimes where I thought we were going to have a shot. I got a good restart on the last one and I was able to kind of sneak under Shepp for a minute, but I just couldn’t quite get clear of him, and Bobby played it good and got back by me.

“I buried us to start the night on Thursday when I caught the wall in qualifying but from there we made improvements every time we touched the track. We’ll keep digging this week with more big paydays up for grabs.”

Taking part in the annual Silver Dollar Nationals presented by MyRacePass as it debuted at its new home, Rocket1 Racing and Hudson O’Neal trekked to Huset's Speedway (Brandon, S.D.) on Thursday for the Go 50 opener.

With 40 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on the grounds for the 13th edition of the event, O’Neal tagged the wall on the opening lap of his qualifying session, which prevented him from recording a time.

Following a sixth-place finish in his heat race, Hudson secured his spot into the preliminary feature with a fourth-to-first run in his consolation event.

With $12,000 on the line, O’Neal gained three positions to finish 14th.

Back in action on Saturday after Mother Nature postponed two scheduled rounds of heat races on Friday evening, Hudson finished fourth in his first heat before going fifth-to-first in the second round.

Locked into the fourth-starting position for Saturday night’s $53,000-to-win Silver Dollar Nationals finale via passing points earned in heat races, O’Neal jumped up one spot in the 53-lap affair to cap off the weekend with a podium finish.

He chased race-long pacesetter Brandon Sheppard and Bobby Pierce to the checkers with Ricky Thornton Jr. and Tyler Erb completing the top-five finishers.

Hudson remains second in the latest LOLMDS point standings.

Full results from the events are available at www.LucasDirt.com.

Ricky Thornton Jr. Wins $12,000 in LOLMDS Silver Dollar Nationals Opener
Hard Charges to Fourth in $53,000-to-win Finale; Pads LOLMDS Lead

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (07/24/23) – Ricky Thornton Jr. enjoyed a successful weekend at the 13th annual Silver Dollar Nationals presented by MyRacePass aboard his SSI Motorsports / Coltman Farms / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Arizona native bagged a $12,000 win in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series weekend opener before charging from 16th to fourth in Saturday evening’s mega finale. With his performances he further extended his advantage atop the series standings.

“Man, that was wild there. I don’t know, I was really good right through the middle of one and two. It wasn’t clean, but there was just enough traction where you could really get through it,” said Thorton Jr. in Victory Lane on Thursday night. “I feel like this is a really big Sprint Car place and it’s really cool to win here. Bobby’s [Pierce] been really good probably the last two or three months. I know JD [Jonathan Davenport] has been really good lately too. I think I started 12th here last year and got to the lead. I knew I had to get a really good start and not get mired back in the pack.”

Kicking off the 13th annual Silver Dollar Nationals presented by MyRacePass weekend as it transitioned to Huset’s Speedway (Brandon, S.D.), Ricky Thornton Jr. unloaded his SSI Motorsports on Thursday evening for the 1/3-mile oval’s Go 50 opener.

With 40 cars entered for the event spanning over three days, Thornton’s runner-up run in his heat race positioned him on the third row for the feature. Sailing ahead of early pacesetter Jonathan Davenport on lap 19, Ricky led uncontested for the remainder of 50-lapper to claim his 21st win of the season and 13th LOLMDS triumph of 2023.

He banked a $12,000 payday ahead of Bobby Pierce, Jonathan Davenport, Chad Simpson, and Tim McCreadie.

After Mother Nature pushed back Friday’s heat races to Saturday afternoon, Ricky came in third in his first heat before finishing fifth in the second round.

With passing points setting the grid for the $53,000-to-win Silver Dollar Nationals finale later Saturday night, Thonrton charged from the eighth row to bring home a fourth-place finish.

He trailed Brandon Sheppard, Bobby Pierce, and Hudson O’Neal across the line with Tyler Erb fifth.

“We just buried ourselves a little too much in Saturday’s feature. I made some mistakes in the heat races that cost us, but I’m still proud to come out of here with a fourth-place finish. This is a cool place, and I look forward to coming back here next year,” Thornton Jr. commented.

Ricky has built up a 320-point margin atop the latest LOLMDS standings.
Full results from the events are available at www.LucasDirt.com.

Ricky is chasing more big checks this week, starting with the XR Super Series Elkhorn 100 at Off Road Speedway (Norfolk, Neb.) on Monday and Tuesday, which culminates with a $100,000 prize.

On Friday and Saturday, he’ll enter the annual Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series. The mega weekend includes the field being divided into $5,000-to-win qualifiers on Friday night with a $50,000 winner’s check up for grabs on Saturday. Additionally, each lap of Saturday’s finale posts a $500 leader bonus, making the total winner’s check as much as $100,000.

His latest venture to the Winner’s Circle came at Senoia Raceway in the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals-sanctioned Roscoe Smith Classic.

Bayston earns top-five in Williams Grove Summer Nationals finale; Empire State Challenge awaits

2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings: 8th | 5332 points

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CARLISLE, Pa. (July 24, 2023) - Despite a rough start to his weekend in Posse Country that resulted in back-to-back finishes outside of the top-ten, scored 21st at BAPS Motor Speedway on Thursday, July 20, and 16th at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, July 21, Lebanon, Indiana’s Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports turned it on when it counted, ultimately capping Williams Grove Speedway’s annual Summer Nationals program with a top-five outcome on Saturday, July 22. The top-five was Bayston’s seventh of the season, simultaneously padding an ever-growing top-ten column that now includes 27.

Bayston, ace of the TrueTimber Camo, Rothco, JRC Transportation, Nyce Crete and Landis, Ecynbro Trucking, C&S Lawn and Landscape, Kistler Engines, Highlands’ Power Sports, High Performance Lubricants, No. 5 sprint car, finished fourth in this top-five performance, maintaining his place near the top of the field after starting second on the $20,000-to-win Summer Nationals finale grid. It was a “home game” all weekend for CJB Motorsports, as their team shop is located right down the street in Carlisle.

“It felt pretty awesome to score a top-five at Williams Grove Speedway, especially after rolling out a new car featuring TrueTimber’s Strata pattern. We can’t thank them enough for their support,” Bayston said. “Starting position plays such a big role, especially at a high speed place like Williams Grove. We used a similar set-up package both nights, which really goes to show how important the starting position actually is. It’s always great to have the opportunity to race in our team’s own backyard. We’re going to utilize our shop pretty heavily the next week or so as we begin to prepare for the next busy stretch.”

Brown, now a 65-time winner at the Knoxville, Iowa, half-mile, commenced his most recent winning campaign from the front row, kicking-off the program with the second-fastest time during qualifying time trials, next finishing sixth during heat race action.

As suggested, Brown led every lap of the 20-lap contest, unphased by traffic with his lead actually increasing.

Altoona, Iowa’s Austin McCarl and former three-time All Star champion, Aaron Reutzel, rounded out the podium.

“We struggled all night long honestly,” Brown said in Knoxville Raceway victory lane. “This is a different car than we’ve had all year here. This was a car we won the Outlaw show with last year and then I crashed at the Capitani Classic. I feel like it really wasn’t right at the Nationals. I chose to bring this one, and after the heat race (finishing sixth) I was thinking it wasn’t a bad decision. Our team never quits though. If you give my team enough opportunities, it’s going to be good.”

ON DECK:
Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing will continue their 2023 campaign with another action-packed agenda in the Midwest, first joining the All Star Circuit of Champions at I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, Missouri, on Friday, July 28, followed by another All Star Circuit of Champions contest at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, July 29. Each event will award an $8,000 payday.

Chase Randall and TKS on the move with forward progress at 34 Raceway and Knoxville Raceway

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa (July 24, 2023) - Forward progress was the overall theme of the weekend for Chase Randall and TKS Motorsports, not only advancing five positions with the All Star Circuit of Champions at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Friday, July 21, but eventually outdoing that feat the following evening at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, capping the Saturday night visit with a six-position bump from 15th to finish ninth. The top-ten score was TKS Motorsports’ seventh of the season, continuing their momentum collection for the forthcoming Knoxville Nationals.

Randall, ace of the Albaugh - Your Alternative/Iowa Barnstormers No. 2KS sprint car who calls Waco, Texas, home, finished 15th in his aforementioned All Star appearance, limited by an abrasive surface that kept late-race passing at a premium.

Adding some extra hype to Randall’s weekend results, for his efforts, the Texan captured Knoxville’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most feature positions.

“I’m proud of Chase and his efforts this weekend. We don’t have a lot of time before the Nationals, so every lap counts,” Troy Renfro, TKS Motorsports team owner, said. “Our goal is to be in Saturday’s A-Main and ultimately contend for a top-ten or even better. I think we have the potential to reach all of our goals.”

ON DECK:
TKS Motorsports and Chase Randall will continue their 2023 campaign with another visit to the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, July 29. The All Star Circuit of Champions will be the headline attraction, a major test session for the forthcoming Knoxville Nationals.

Dereck Ramirez Breaks Through for $10,000 in USMTS Mason City Finale
I-70, Lakeside, and Lucas Oil Speedway Next on the Docket

WOODWARD, Okla. (07/24/23) – After a few near misses during the first half of the 2023 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) season, Dereck Ramirez busted into the win column with the series with a triumphant performance on Saturday evening at Mason City Motor Speedway aboard his S&S Fishing & Rentals No. 4R Koda Services / Boom-Test Well Service/ Raw Truck Wash / Hughes Racing Chassis / Cornett Racing Engine Modified.

He claimed his fourth win overall of the 2023 season from the fourth starting spot.

“It’s been a trying year. This deal is tough now, everybody’s so close together and it’s just hard to make anything work. My two guys, Steve and Marco, they work their tails off. They never give up on me and I can’t thank them enough for what they do,” Ramirez shared. “I tried to give her away there with three or four to go. I was getting free going into (turn) one there and I knew I needed to move up and come back down the racetrack. I got in there a little hot and pushed and I thought ‘Well I’m just going to give it to whoever is behind me.’ Thankfully nobody got past me and we got the win.

“We’re going to take this week off before getting back to action next week with USMTS.”

Dereck Ramirez bested a field of 38 Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries at Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) on Saturday to score a $10,000 payday in the North Iowa Nationals finale.

Ramirez started the evening with a second-place effort in his group qualifying session and finished fourth in his heat race on the 1/3-mile oval. He began the 50-lap A-Main from the fourth position, taking the lead on the 18th lap.

He led all but one of the remaining circuits to claim the win by 0.848 seconds over runner-up Tanner Mullens. Jason Hughes came home third, with Carlos Ahumada Jr. fourth and Jake Timm rounding out the top five.

The victory was the first for Ramirez in USMTS competition this season and his fourth of 2023 overall.

Saturday’s win capped a stellar weekend for Ramirez, which saw the 2021 USMTS champion take three Top-10 finishes in the 10th annual North Iowa Nationals event.

The three-day program kicked off on Thursday with 37 USMTS Modifieds in the pit area. Ramirez set the second-quickest time of his group during qualifying, then came home third in his heat. He started the night’s 35-lap feature from the second spot and stayed up front the whole race, finishing as runner-up, 2.061 seconds behind winner Jim Chisholm in the $3,000-to-win showdown. Third place went to Jason Hughes, with Alex Williamson fourth and Tim Ward fifth.

On Friday, 42 USMTS entries were on hand seeking the night’s $5,000 first-place payout. Ramirez turned in the quickest time in his qualifying group, but finished fifth in his heat, putting him in a B-Main. After taking the checkered flag in the “B,” Ramirez rolled off 15th for the 40-lap main event. He picked up five spots to secure a top-10 result.

With the successful weekend, Ramirez jumped from seventh to fifth in the USMTS National point standings.

Full results can be found at www.usmts.com .

Ramirez will be idle this week before continuing his 2023 campaign on Thursday – Saturday, August 3 – 5 with a USMTS triple header. The tour will visit I-70 Motorsports Park on Thursday before invading Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kan.) on Friday. The three-race swing draws to a close on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.)

Dereck Ramirez and Ramirez Motorsports would like to thank all of their sponsors and supporters including Boom-Test Well Service, Koda Services, Raw Truck Wash, Woodward Steel, Hughes Racing Chassis, S&S Fishing & Rentals, Midwest Refrigeration, Cornett Racing Engines, Go Lithium, Swift Springs, Sybesma Graphics, Afco Shocks, and MyRacePass Marketing Services.

Mallett Captures Third-Place Result During Rain-Delayed ASCS National Tour Feature at 81 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - PARK CITY, Kan. (July 24, 2023) - Wet weather has hampered racing recently for Jordon Mallett, who nearly faced a pair of rainouts for the second straight week last weekend.

The ASCS National Tour event on Friday at Rush County Speedway in La Crosse, Kan., rained out and Saturday's race at 81 Speedway was delayed several hours by a storm.

"The weather has been kind of iffy the last couple of weeks," Mallett said. "It was a washout Friday night. On Saturday if it didn't rain out after Friday we thought it'd be all right. I think there was a 10 percent chance of rain. It quickly turned into a 100 percent chance of rain about 8:40 p.m."

Mallett had qualified third quickest in his group and placed second in a heat race to garner the fourth starting position in the main event. Then the rain came.

"As soon as the weather started picking up and it looked like heavy rain we were trying to get our stuff loaded before the bottom fell out," he said. "The pits can be tough there when it's raining. We loaded up and went outside. Most all of us worked outside of the pit gate. That was a different vibe. As soon as the storm blew through and they went to tilling the track we were unloaded and making big changes to the race cars. We were sitting good, but it was about making the right calls to make sure we were free enough to get around that place."

Track and series officials worked diligently to get the feature in following the inclement weather.

"We were free enough to move around and run competitive," Mallett said. "That was about as good as you could get on a deal like that. We had a restart with about five laps to go and I got someone off turn two to get myself to the podium. Up to that point it was a breakaway of the top four."

Mallett's third-place result was his fourth podium of the season.

"I was blown away by the staff for working as hard as they did and the fans," he said. "It was torrential wind along with the rain. We had full stands. The people got in their vehicles and said let us know what you all decide. That was pretty cool to see."

Mallett will take this weekend off before he tackles the 33 rd annual Xtream Powered by Mediacom 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank Aug. 3-5 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

Hagar is driving for Paul Hart during a Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions race at Benton Speedway in Benton, Mo., where he last competed in June 2013. It also marks his first All Star start since July 2021.

"We used to take our 360 up there and contend with the 410 guys," he said. "This was back in 2007, 2008, 2009 era. The place had been closed down for a while and recently reopened. It's maybe the size of Riverside International Speedway (in West Memphis, Ark.), maybe a tick bigger. I'm looking forward to getting back there."

Hagar's most recent race at the oval yielded a third-place result a little more than a decade ago.

He will return to his No. 9jr on Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, Miss., for an ASCS Mid-South Region race. He has a four-race winning streak at the track with three trips to Victory Lane in 2019 and the first during the streak in 2018.
