Sheppard Pockets $15,000 in One for the Road at Fairbury

World of Outlaws Pennsylvania Doubleheader on Deck

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (09/22/20) – Brandon Sheppard pulled away in the closing laps Tuesday to claim his 20th win of the season for Rocket1 Racing at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway.

Sheppard became the fifth different leader and eventual winner of the “One for the Road” in the Valvoline No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches/ Durham Racing Engines-powered Rocket Chassis. He pocketed $15,000 for his efforts.

“That’s awesome man. It’s such a privilege to be able to race here,” Sheppard said, quick to credit his crew. “During these hard times and everything, we’re glad to be racing period, but to be able to race still this close to home and at this great of a racetrack, this place puts a lot of places to shame, if you ask me.”

“We’ve had kind of a rough couple of weeks here, and we’re definitely glad to be back in victory lane. We couldn’t do it without all the great supporters that we have,” he added. “It’s just so much fun to drive this thing, especially here. I didn’t know how good the race was going to be as fast as the (track) was, but it came through again.”

Posting the third quickest lap in his time trial group and finishing runner up in his heat race behind Kyle Strickler would position Brandon fifth on the starting grid for the 50-lap main event.

It wasn’t until just past the halfway mark that Sheppard began to roll on the high side, going from fourth to first from lap 31-36. Once out front, Brandon pulled away to a comfortable lead and would cross the finish line 1.616 seconds ahead of Josh Richards, Bobby Pierce, Frank Heckenast Jr. and Shannon Babb.

From there, Rocket1 Racing headed west to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. for a tripleheader with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The I-80 Nationals – which filled the void of the Knoxville Late Model Nationals that was postponed to 2021 kicked off Thursday.

After qualifying seventh in his group, Brandon slipped to a sixth-place finish in his heat race, forcing him to run a B-Main. With a runner-up finish in the B-Main, Sheppard was locked into the 21st starting position for the $7,000-to-win preliminary night feature. Brandon charged through the field in the 30-lapper to register a 12th place outing.

Returning on Friday for another $7,000-to-win preliminary program, Sheppard came in fourth fastest in his qualifying group before finishing fourth in his heat race. Rolling off sixth for the main event, Brandon faded to a tenth-place finish.

With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday positioning him 12th on the starting grid for the $30,000 I-80 Nationals finale, Sheppard marched forward six spots to finish sixth at the checkered flag.

"I started working the top a little bit and I could get a run underneath (Trent Ivey) going down the straightaway," Bailes said. "We had a really good car. Trent, I think his car kind of went away in lapped traffic, and ours was more maneuverable, I believe."

Don O'Neal Returns as MasterSbilt House Car Driver Starting in Jackson 100!

(MARTINSVILLE, INDIANA) After competing in only one event so far in his 2020 racing season, Don O'Neal confirmed today that he will return to the seat of the MasterSbilt House Car effective immediately and will compete in this weekend's 41st Annual 'Jackson 100' at the legendary Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Indiana! Don fills the vacant ride left open when his son Hudson O'Neal amicably parted ways with the storied Crothersville, Indiana chassis manufacturer back in July. The Martinsville, Indiana star last drove full-time for the Masters family from 2009-2013 when "The Real Deal" racked up multiple crown jewel triumphs including the 2011 'Dirt Late Model Dream' for $100,000, the 2011 'Dirt Track World Championship' for $50,000, the 2012 and 2013 'North/South 100' for $50,000 each, the 2012 'Clash at the Mag' for $20,000, and the 2013 'Jackson 100' for $15,000.

Don will be seeking his fifth career 'Jackson 100' title this weekend when the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series roars into Brownstown Speedway to sanction a pair of lucrative races. A $10,000 top prize will be on the line for the Super Late Models on Friday night, September 25, while Saturday's annual 'Jackson 100' will boast a $15,000 payday. Don's lone appearance this year actually came behind the wheel of the MasterSbilt House Car at Brownstown back on June 6, as he placed sixth in a $2,200 to win special event at the 1/4-mile fairgrounds oval.

"I'm really excited to return to racing this weekend at Brownstown," quoted O'Neal via telephone today. "I kind of had my mind made up after leaving the (Clint) Bowyer deal that I was just going to race here and there and go into semi-retirement mode. With all of this time off and only racing once this year; however, I really started to get the itch and I am ready to get back behind the wheel. I'm thankful for my relationship with Tader and Jerilyn (Masters), as well as with Jim Beeman, and look forward to racing with them for the rest of this year and kicking off 2021 down south during Speedweeks!"

While the schedule is currently up in the air for the rest of 2020, Don and the MasterSbilt House Car team are already making plans to attend "Speedweeks" next year and run a full schedule of selected events in 2021. The #71 team would like to thank all of their marketing partners including: Jim Beeman Lumber, Seubert Calf Ranches, Superior Cleaning Services, O'Neals Salvage, MasterSbilt Race Cars, Jay Dickens Racing Engines, Chubby Baird Gate Company, Arizona Sport Shirts, Base Racing Fuels, Hoosier Racing Tires, FTS Incorporated, Poske's Performance Parts, FK Rod Ends, RaceKnowHow.com, Pomp's Tire Service, Peterson Fluid Systems, Dominator Race Products, XS Power, Earnhardt Technologies Group, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products, Hooker Harness, Ohlins Shocks, E-Z Lift, Wilwood Engineering, Falcon Rear Ends, Eibach Springs, Sweet Mfg., and Total Power Batteries.

A new website is in the works for Don and the #71 MasterSbilt House Car team, which will be launched soon at www.DonONeal71.com!

Big Week for Bacon Begins on Tuesday

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (September 22, 2020) – In the midst of a torrid battle for a third career USAC Sprint Car championship, Brady Bacon is set for a busy week of racing action at three tracks in three different cars.

It begins with Bacon in winged 410-ci action on Tuesday and Wednesday after being voted into Eldora Speedways’ “Governor’s Reign” by the fans.  Piloting the Fatheadz Eyewear No. 69, Bacon will vie for Tuesday’s $10,000 winner’s share and then Wednesday’s $52,000 payday at the invitational event.

Then, after an idle night, “The Macho Man” is in for double-duty with the USAC National Sprint Cars and USAC National Midgets at Gas City I-69 Speedway on Friday night and then Kokomo Speedway on Saturday night.

Bacon will pilot the Hoffman Racing Fatheadz Eyewear No. 69 entry in the Sprint Car portion and the Hayward Motorsports Oilfire No. 19 in the Midget portion.  While the Hoffman entry is Bacon’s standard USAC Sprint Car ride, Bacon gained the seat of the No. 19 Midget for the remainder of the season.

Bacon goes into the week off a USAC Sprint Car weekend that netted finishes of fifth at the Terre Haute Action Track on Friday and then eighth at Haubstadt’s Tri-State Speedway on Saturday night.

After timing in second-quickest at Terre Haute, Bacon gridded the feature event fifth and held the position throughout the 30-lapper.

Bacon then worked his way forward from the 12th starting position in Saturday’s 40-lap Haubstadt Hustler to salvage an eighth-place showing.

Bacon enters this weekend’s USAC Sprint Car action just eight points off the lead pace.  Only one USAC Sprint Car event remains after this weekend’s pair of events.

Brady Bacon Racing is bolstered by the support of partners including Hoffman Auto Racing, Fatheadz Eyewear, Champion Oil, Gene Franckowiak, Drivewfx.com, Elliott’s Custom Trailers, ATC Trailers, Tel-Star Technologies, Dragonfly Aviation, Lykins Oil, Triple X Race Co., Hoosier Tire, XYZ Machine, Heath Clips Lawn Care, FK Indy, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Rod Ends, Specialty Rigging, Keizer Wheels, Purple Heart Foundation, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Smiley’s Racing Products, R&R Enterprises, DMI, ProGlide Coatings, Chalk Stixx, Wilwood Engineering, Lajoie Seats, Smith Precision Products, Allstar Performance, Simpson Racing Products, MyRacePass, Schroth Racing, Saldana Racing Products, KSE Racing Products, King Racing Products and Schoenfeld Headers.

Reutzel Back in All Star Victory Lane – Takes on All Stars & Outlaws this Week

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (September 22, 2020) – Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team bolstered their All Star Circuit of Champions points lead over the weekend with his 14th overall win of the 2020 season.

It was a three-race week which included a fourth-place finish in last Wednesday night’s Weldon Sterner Memorial at Lincoln Speedway.  A pair of All Star events followed with a Friday night triumph at Williams Grove Speedway and then a runner-up finish in Saturday night’s “Dirt Classic” at Lincoln Speedway.

It sets the stage for a full week of racing with the All Star Circuit of Champions and World of Outlaws.

The All Stars are back in action with Eldora Speedway’s “Governor’s Reign” in Rossburg, OH, on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Reutzel and the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car team then shift into World of Outlaws action at Indiana’s Plymouth Speedway on Thursday night and then western Pennsylvania’s Lernerville Speedway on Saturday night.

Reutzel kicked off last week’s set of events by topping the speed charts in qualifying on Wednesday night at Lincoln aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment entry and then finishing out the night fourth in the feature after starting fifth.

Back into points action for Friday’s Jack Gunn Memorial at Williams Grove Speedway, Reutzel won his heat race to earn a Dash starting position aboard the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspension entry  and then led the final 17 laps of the feature event for his 14th win of the season.

“We got a little lucky at Williams Grove, we didn’t qualify very good but that put us on the front row of our heat and we were able to win that to get in a Dash,“ Reutzel explains.  “We had a really, really good car for the feature, I could run it anywhere on the track that I needed to.”

Back to Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night for the $20,000-to-win Dirt Classic, Reutzel topped his qualifying group in the Fischer Body Shop machine.  He then posted a runner-up finish in his first heat and then sixth in his second heat in the twin-heat event.

“Lincoln started out good, we ran second to Kyle (Larson) in the first heat, but on the second heat we missed it with the car,” Reutzel recalls.  “If we would have been one position better in that second heat, that would have put us on the front row of the feature.”

Instead, Reutzel gridded the feature inside the third row.  Reutzel worked his way forward to post a runner-up finish for the night.

“I got up to third when it rubbered up, then I was able to get second on a restart when the guy that was there slipped out of the rubber,” Reutzel wraps up.

Three tracks await Reutzel and crew this week and he has put the BRM No. 87 in victory lane in his last visit to each of the tracks.

The “Governor’s Reign” at Eldora Speedway is Reutzel’s first visit to the Ohio facility since putting the finishing touches on his second All Star Circuit of Champions title last September.

After the All Star double at Eldora, Reutzel takes on the World of Outlaws at a pair of tracks at which he has been unbeaten in All Star Circuit of Champions action over the past three seasons.  Reutzel has been victorious in each of the past three years at Indiana’s Plymouth Speedway and topped 2018 and 2019 events at Lernerville Speedway.

2020 Quick Stats:  72 races, 14 wins, 36 top-fives, 49 top-tens.

Brian Brown Focused on Flipping Luck During Marquee Events This Week

Inside Line Promotions - ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2020) - Brian Brown has four big nights of racing on tap this week following a frustrating weekend in Central Pennsylvania.

"I've been frustrated for the last few weeks, but frustration won't help erase some of the bad luck we've had," he said. "We have the car speed. Once our luck turns around we'll be in a good position."

Brown will tackle Eldora Speedway's Governors Reign, which pays $52,000 to win the finale, on Tuesday and Wednesday before participating in a World of Outlaws tune-up race at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday and the 38 th annual Jim Nace Memorial National Open at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday.

Sept. 16 - Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. - Qualifying: 6; Heat race: 1 (2); Feature: 24 (7).

"We were pretty good," Brown said. "We qualified decent and won our heat race. We lined up seventh for the main event, but we had ignition trouble from the get-go."

Sept. 18 - Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. - Qualifying: 5; Heat race: 1 (1); Dash: 1 (1); Feature: 22 (1).

"We qualified well and won both our heat race and a dash," Brown said. "We were running third on the last lap and blew a right rear tire. We've had car speed, but just no luck."

Sept. 19 - Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. - Qualifying: 12; Heat race #1: 4 (3); Heat race: #2: 5 (6); Feature: 19 (20).

"We ran around where we started all night," Brown said. "I feel like we have the car speed. It's hard not to get down, but to me there's lots of bright points. You can't control your luck. You can make your own luck, but you can't control a lot of things that happen. Stuff that has happened are freak deals that don't happen normally. On the other hand I'm excited as an owner and a driver that we do have speed. If we can just get rid of that bad luck we have a car capable of having good runs."

UP NEXT - Tuesday and Wednesday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the Governors Reign with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 and Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., for the 38th annual Jim Nace Memorial National Open

"First, I'm honored to be asked to show up to this race at Eldora," Brown said. "It's an invitational so it's not like anyone can show up like how it normally is at race tracks. There's a lot of great teams that are invited and a lot of great teams that weren't so we're just happy to be invited. I'm also happy that Eldora and their staff put on such a big event when they didn't have to. Eldora is a place we've had some success at in the past. We've been off a bit in 2020, but the last couple of weeks we've gained on it. We're also looking forward to having two good nights in Pennsylvania this weekend."

Crockett Earns Two Top 10s During Hockett/McMillin Memorial

Inside Line Promotions - WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 22, 2020) - Roger Crockett highlighted the 10th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial with a pair of top-10 runs last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway.

Crockett kicked off the three-race Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour weekend that featured more than 75 drivers on Thursday by charging from eighth to fourth place in a heat race and from fourth to second place in a qualifier. He capped the night with an eighth-place finish in the main event.

"I'm disappointed we didn't have our car better," he said. "The first night we unloaded really good. In the heat race we were really good. In the qualifier we were a tiny bit off, but still got a couple of spots. In the A Main we weren't real good the first few laps until it laid rubber. But then there's nowhere to pass."

Crockett drew a high number to line up eighth in a heat race on Friday, but track conditions made passing a premium.

"The track was so wet you couldn't pass," he said. "Our car was fine, but you just couldn't pass. We finished seventh. In the qualifier we were able to move forward from eighth to fourth and get ourselves in a decent spot in the B Main. We missed on the car setup, but were able to go fifth to third. Then we missed on the car in the LCQ and were too free. We were good the first few laps and then we were just hanging on. The draw just hurt us so bad that night, as it did many people."

A runner-up result in a qualifier on Saturday locked Crockett into the $10,000-to-win main event.

"We got in the show, but our car was really bad," he said. "We don't really know what made it so bad. We were way too tight. I couldn't even drive the car the first 25 laps. It got a little better at the end and we were able to move forward some. I think we ran 20th most of the race. It was a struggle until the track dried off."

Crockett's late rebound netted a 10th-place finish, which marked his 14th top 10 this season and 11th with the ASCS National Tour - tied for the most.

"Ultimately, running 10th was not a horrible outing, especially with 75-plus drivers competing," he said. "We go there to try to win and we weren't a threat to win. That place is really tricky. I think we have something to learn there. There's something I'm missing and we're just not getting the car right."

Crockett will be dormant this weekend before resuming ASCS National Tour competition on Oct. 2-3 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the Short Track Nationals.

QUICK RESULTS -

Sept. 17 - Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. - Heat race: 4 (8); Qualifier: 2 (4); Feature: 8 (7).

Mallett Enjoys Successful Weekend During Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 22, 2020) - Jordon Mallett scored a pair of top-five finishes as well as a seventh-place result during the 10th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial hosted by Lucas Oil Speedway last weekend.

"The goal was to not have to run a B Main all weekend and if we did our job we'd get locked into Saturday's show," he said. "With around 80 cars there all week I think our average finish was around four so I'm definitely pleased and it was a great points weekend, too."

Mallett kicked off the three-race Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour weekend at the 'Diamond of Dirt Tracks' on Thursday by advancing four positions in a heat race to finish fifth. He then won a qualifier from third to lock himself into the feature in the eighth starting spot.

Hugging the bottom of the track, Mallett advanced to the fifth position on the opening lap of the feature. He then capitalized in traffic to work his way forward to the runner-up position on Lap 16.

Over the final nine circuits he erased more than a two-second deficit and pulled under the leader entering turn one on the final lap. The two made slight contact exiting turn two and Mallett had to get out of throttle to avoid a wreck before settling for second. The finish was a career best for Mallett with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

"Second place is always a good run, but it's about the worst place to finish as you know you just missed a win," he said. "I could've pushed the envelope a bit, but with two more nights of racing I didn't want to junk two good race cars knowing what was at stake all weekend."

Mallett duplicated Thursday night's performance on Friday when he advanced four positions to end fifth in a heat race and won a qualifier from the third starting spot. He lined up for the feature on the outside of the second row and he finished fifth on a tricky track that proved tough to pass on.

The top-five run was the Greenbrier, Ark., native's 12th of the season. More importantly, after two nights of racing Mallett sat third in points to lock himself straight into the Saturday night finale - worth $10,000 to win.

"This weekend we proved that if the race track is good, you can overcome pill draw with determination and hard work," he said. "We pretty much duplicated Thursday night and that's exactly what we were looking for in terms of consistency and success. To know leaving Friday night we were already locked in and didn't have to worry about racing our way in was a big relief and it allowed us to just focus on racing for a win."

Mallett, who started the finale third, jumped to second on the initial start, but it got called back. He was not as fortunate on the second attempt and fell to fourth. Mallett stayed in the top five for most of the race before slipping to seventh in traffic. He ended in that position to post his 15th top 10 of the season.

"We pretty much ran anywhere from third to eighth all feature long and I wish we had that first start back," he said. "The track was challenging and a lot of guys were not as lucky as us to escape with a top-10 finish so we're leaving with our heads held high and pleased."

Mallett will take the week off before returning to action Oct. 2-3 for the 33rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. He enters the weekend sitting fifth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour standings and only trails second by 99 points.

"I'm trying really hard to put the points deal in the back of my mind and to just focus on running well and contending for wins," he said. "Honestly, I'm more focused on the future than anything and getting my program right to where we can contend every night and feel comfortable each time out. If we run like I feel we're capable of the points deal will take care of itself."
