FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sheppard stole the lead from Jared Miley in a green-white-checkered finish to earn $10,000 in front of a standing-room only crowd at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Knox Dale, Pa. “Jared definitely, he had that race won there,” Sheppard said. “He went down there in (turns) one and two there after that caution and got over the berm there coming out of two. That let me get past him, then he slid all the way in across my nose over there, and then I did the same thing to him over here. And man, it was a tough race and a lot of fun.” The World of Outlaws Late Model Series made their debut at Thunder Mountain Speedway Friday night. Brandon set QuickTime in his qualifying group before finishing second in his heat race behind Boom Briggs. Starting the $10,000-to-win A-Main in sixth, Sheppard marched forward to finish second behind Scott Bloomquist. Darrell Lanigan, David Scott, and Max Blair rounded out the Top-5. Returning on Saturday, Brandon grabbed a heat race win to earn a spot in the re-draw where he received the third starting position on the feature grid. Sheppard took control from Miley when he got too high exiting turn two on the final restart. Miley fought back but Sheppard was able to take the checkers 0.302 seconds ahead. Miley settled for second with Ashton Winger, Michael Norris, and Dennis Erb Jr. rounding out the Top-5. “I wished we could’ve got up through there a little bit earlier. We had a really good car at the very beginning of the race, then the middle stages I felt like we weren’t as good, and there at the end we were starting to come back to it a little bit,” the Rocket Chassis house car driver said. “It’s a dream to drive this thing and it was a lot of fun tonight. This racetrack, I didn’t hear very many good things about it, but it produced some hellacious racing this weekend, so hopefully we’ll get to come back again next year.” The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will continue the 2020 season this weekend with a Friday, October 2 stop at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C. followed by a Saturday October 3 date at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn. The SawBlade.com Xiphos saw blade sponsored competitor finished second during the preliminary night before earning a third-place outing at the finale of the marquee event hosted by I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. "I think last year at this race we started on the pole the first night so we were high point and we ran second," Carney II said. "We made the dash and ran fourth in it during the second night. I actually led probably 10 or 12 laps in the feature. We ended up with a third so I'm certainly looking to improve on that." Carney II will return to the bullring this Friday and Saturday for the 33 rd edition of the event, which is sanctioned by the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. "We've always had a fast car there," he said. "Sometimes it's a matter of not getting tangled up with someone early in the night. It's not where you start in the heat race; it's who you start with. You always want to have one or two cars that you feel like you can pass. The biggest thing is not getting together with anyone in the heat race or the qualifier because that will ruin your weekend." Carney II has visited I-30 Speedway twice this year. He was in contention for a top five and potentially a win during a start in June before contact resulted in a DNF. Carney II advanced from 20th to 13 th during his most recent visit in August. Contact: Shawn Miller Crockett Set for Third Career Short Track Nationals Start Inside Line Promotions - BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (Sept. 29, 2020) - Roger Crockett will make his first COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires appearance since 2013 and just the third of his career this weekend. Crockett is heading to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 33 rd edition of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event that runs Friday and Saturday. "I actually haven't raced at that track very many times," he said. "I've maybe been there five times. I think we ran a Speedweek race with Paul (Silva) and then the Short Track Nationals in 2004." Crockett placed third during a preliminary night at the 2004 Short Track Nationals and he recorded his career-best result at I-30 Speedway the following year when he finished second. Crockett added another top five when he hustled to a fourth-place showing at the bullring in June. "Earlier in the year we were really good there," he said. "We're looking back at our notes and will head to the track the same way. Hopefully the track is similar throughout the course of the weekend. It was a lot of fun earlier in the year. "The first time I went there I lived on the West Coast still and it was a super easy transition. Since I've been away from California I haven't done as much of that style of racing. People are a lot more aggressive now. That part of the racing has changed a bit. Sometimes there's wheel to wheel contact that I'm not into, but sometimes you have to be prepared to bang wheels." Crockett enters the event ranked second in the ASCS National Tour championship standings with four nights of racing remaining this year. He is seeking his first win of the season and first-ever victory at I-30 Speedway. "Your car has to be really good and maneuverable in an event like this," he said. "You have to have a few things go your way with a high car count like it will be as well." (Sept. 29, 2020) - Danny Sams III is checking a bucket list item off this weekend when he tackles the 33 rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires. The Sams LaMountain Racing driver made his debut at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., in June and will return to the oval this Friday and Saturday for one of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour's marquee events. "It's super cool to be able to go to these big races and to be part of it," Sams III said. "I believe we learned a lot the last time. We had plenty of speed. A mishap in the B Main cost us a shot at making the feature, but I think we had a competitive car." Sams III enters this weekend ranked 10th in the ASCS National Tour championship standings and he is in contention for the Rookie of the Year Award as the series only has four remaining races in 2020. The Short Track Nationals is one of 360ci winged sprint car racing's biggest shows. The winner's share from the Saturday finale is $10,041, which is one of the highest in the division. The event routinely draws several dozen competitors from across the country seeking the stout payout as well as bragging rights. "If we carry the momentum we gained two weekends ago hopefully we can make the show," he said. "We definitely have gained a lot of experience at these tracks that are new to us. We have a full notebook and it's great to return to tracks not starting out chasing a setup. Hopefully we can take another step forward this weekend." Contact: Shawn Miller Hagar Rallies From Flip in Heat Race to Win Feature From 15 th Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Sept. 29, 2020) - Last Sunday featured a dramatic swing for Derek Hagar, who capped a night at Riverside International Speedway by posting his seventh feature victory of the season. The Fall Nationals, which was postponed from Saturday to Sunday because of wet weather, began with Hagar lining up on the outside of the third row in a heat race. "I got up to third," he said. "The racing was right around the bottom. I was on the guy in second and I nudged a rear bumper a couple of times to try to stay with him to carry momentum to get him in the corner. On the last lap he slipped off the bottom. I got underneath him and he crowded me. We rubbed wheels and he backed off. Then going into turn three he gassed it back up and ran into us. We ended up tipping over." The contact made Hagar's car get upside down and he was unable to finish the race, which relegated him to the back of the starting lineup for the main event. "I wasn't even going to run because I'm pretty much out of wings," he said. "I got undressed and in my street clothes. I was helping one of my 305 customers. I walked to the trailer and Bill, my crew guy, asked if he puts wings on it will I race it and I said yes. "By Lap 15 I was up to third before a red came out. We really didn't need a caution or red because our car was great. On the restart the drivers in first and second went down to the bottom. I was up against the concrete and drove around them in turns three and four. We led the last 15 laps. "Early in the race I was in the middle, bottom, top, wherever I could pass cars. Once I got clear track in front of me I moved to the top. It was so far around the top if I'd have moved up half an inch I would have been throwing sparks off the rear bumper. The track was slick from top to bottom with no cushion." Hagar's charge from 15th to win also earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars. "It was special," he said. "It was a life lesson I hope for a kid or whoever is watching in the stands to never give up. We went from the lowest of lows in the heat race to the highest of highs in the feature. You never give up until that checkered flag waves and don't worry about the people trying to drag you down." Hagar will ride that momentum into the 33rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires this Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event pays $10,041 to win the finale. Hagar was victorious at the track in July, giving him a win at I-30 Speedway in five straight seasons and during six of the last seven years. "We're going with a clear mind to win $10,000," he said. "We won the prelim night last year and didn't have too bad of a night on that Saturday deal. This new motor combination that Ricky Stenhouse and my dad, Kenny, came up with is unbelievable. I'm excited to go there and put our name in the hunt." QUICK RESULTS - Sept. 27 - Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. - Heat race: 7 (6); Feature: 1 (15). (Sept. 29, 2020) - Jeffrey West Jr. tied his career-best sprint car result last Sunday when he recorded a seventh-place finish at Riverside International Speedway. West Jr. opened the Fall Nationals, which was held on Sunday instead of Saturday because of wet weather, by finishing where he started - second - in a heat race. "The track threw us a huge curve ball the moment we got there," he said. "We started hot laps a couple of hours earlier than a usual race because it was on Sunday. By the time we went out for our heat race the track was slick from top to bottom. We didn't expect that. We just didn't quite have what we needed, but we were able to make the best of it. "I fell back to fifth in the heat race. Two cars wrecked and I was able to get back to second on a late restart." West Jr. lined up on the inside of the third row for the main event. "We were decent and not far off the leaders," he said. "The first 10 laps we stayed in the top five. As the feature went on our car went in the wrong direction and we faded. We tried some different lines. I got really good running the cushion in turns three and four, which was my first time doing that. That felt good. We had a caution with about 10 laps to go. Jeff Swindell and I battled for five or six laps and he got me toward the end. I'm very happy with a top seven with our car handling like it did." The seventh-place finish marked the third top 10 of the season for West Jr., who is in his first year behind the wheel of a 360ci winged sprint car. Next up is the 33rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires this Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. It will mark his third time racing with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. West Jr. earned a 17th-place result during his series debut at I-30 Speedway in June and he recorded a career-best 11 th-place showing with the series at Riverside International Speedway in July. "For this weekend I don't have any expectations," he said. "I want to go there and do the best I can and soak up as much experience as I can. If we could make the A Main that'd be huge, but that's going to be really hard to do. We'll give it our best shot and that's all we can do."
