FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE In a field of 33 cars on Friday, Shirley finished second in his heat race behind Jeremiah Hurst, sending him to the redraw where he received the fifth spot on the feature grid. Taking the lead from Frank Heckenast Jr. on lap 17, Shirley never looked back, driving away to a more than three-second advantage over second-running, Ryan Gustin. However, in the final ten laps Gustin was able to close the gap on Shirley. Gustin made a charge on the high side on the final circuit but it was Shirley who crossed the finish line first by just 0.114 seconds. Gustin finish second, with Heckenast, Dennis Erb Jr. and Ryan Unzicker rounding out the Top-5. Brian earned $5,000 for the win. “These little bullrings and stuff are pretty tricky and lap traffic always comes into play,” Shirley said. “So, all in all, I’m just thankful to get the win. Frankie was trying to run that guy on the top. I was lucky and able to get some good grip on the bottom and was able to get by him there. At the end it just come down to not knowing which lane to be in and I should have done a better job.” Returning on Saturday, Shirley grabbed a heat race win and went on to draw the pole position for the $5,000-to-win main event. In the 50-lapper, Shirley took command and the drop of the green flag and went unchallenged to complete the weekend sweep. Completing the Top-5 were Jeff Herzog, Erb, Todd Bennett, and Jason Feger. The Labor Day weekend will see the Bob Cullen Racing team entering a trio of events with the MARS Racing Series. The action kicks off with a doubleheader on Thursday-Friday, September 3-4 at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway, each paying $5,000-to-win. The weekend concludes with a $10,000-to-win event on Saturday, September 5 at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway. (Sept. 1, 2020) - A trip to Missouri is on tap for Derek Hagar, who plans on tackling the 11th annual LOS 360 Nationals this weekend. Hagar will compete on Saturday and Sunday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., where he hasn't raced since September 2018. "It's been a couple of years since I've been there," he said. "We didn't go there last year, but we finished second both nights during this event the year before. We had a good car and actually we've had a good car every time we've been there. I'm looking forward to getting back there and making some good laps." Hagar recorded a feature victory at the dirt oval in 2017. That was the best result of a stout streak of six finishes in the top four, including five podiums, during six starts in 2017 and 2018. "Any race track in Missouri we seem to fair well at," he said. "That dirt fits our style of racing. It gets pretty slick and early in the night it's fast, but not a heavy fast. It's more maneuverable and more racy." Hagar enters the weekend with momentum as he has won five of his last eight races, including three of six starts in a sprint car. "We haven't been able to race a lot this year so it's been great to have the success we have had," he said. "Hopefully that continues this weekend during both nights at Lake Ozark." (Sept. 1, 2020) - Sides Motorsports produced one of its best weekends of the season with Jason Sides and Tim Kaeding teaming up last Saturday and Sunday. Kaeding guided the team to the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars on Saturday at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., and a top-10 outing on Sunday at I-80 Speedway. Meanwhile, Sides advanced from 16th to 12th at U.S. 36 Raceway and from 20th to 11 th at I-80 Speedway. "It was a pretty good run for both cars," Sides said. "Qualifying wasn't very good for either of us either night, but we got better as each night went on." Kaeding overcame the 24th place qualifying result and an eighth-place run in a heat race at U.S. 36 Raceway to win the Last Chance Showdown from seventh. He continued to roll forward in the A Main by maneuvering from 19th to 11th. Kaeding locked into the 16th starting spot in the feature at I-80 Speedway thanks to a fourth-place finish in a heat race. He and Sides, who started 20th, both used the bottom groove to rally toward the top 10. "In the feature both cars got running the bottom really good," Sides said. "The top got further around. I got by TK at one point, but I got hung up behind someone and he got back around. I would have liked us both to finish in the top 10, but it was good to make the progress we did." Kaeding's ninth-place finish was the team's seventh top 10 of the season. Sides' nine positions gained marked the third-most cars passed in the feature. Next up is a trip to Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., this Saturday and Sunday. "We've run well there at times so I'm excited to get back there," Sides said. "Tod (Quiring) will do a good job with the place and we're glad to have racing back at Huset's."
