FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 31, 2021 Tyler Millwood Takes Advantage of Others Misfortune to Score Rome Speedway Spring Nationals Win (ROME, GEORGIA) Tyler Millwood, of Kingston, Georgia, put himself in position to capitalize on the misfortune of two race leaders on Sunday, May 30 to pick up his first career Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series victory at the nearby Rome Speedway! After stopping the clock second fastest in Group B during FK Rod Ends qualifying, Tyler rolled off from the outside of the second row in the 40-lap feature event. When leaders Dale McDowell (flat tire) and Austin Horton (busted radiator) gave up the top spot with issues, Tyler was right there to take advantage, as he led the final eleven circuits of the contest to bag the $4,053 top prize. Donald McIntosh, who currently sits second in the latest version of the Spring Nationals point standings, vaulted six spots during the course of the Rome headliner to nab a runner-up performance – 2.498 seconds behind victor Millwood. Jason Croft brought his #9 machine home in the third position, while the previous night winner Randy Weaver secured a strong fourth place effort. Current miniseries point leader Dale McDowell, who led the first eight trips around the “World’s Fastest 1/2-Mile Clay Track,” rebounded from his unfortunate flat tire and rallied from the back of the pack to salvage a fifth place showing. Tyler’s popular home state win last night at Rome Speedway marked his first career trip to victory lane in Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series competition. He also became the eighth different Spring Nationals winner in as many races this year – joining Jonathan Davenport, Brandon Overton, David Payne, Dale McDowell, Tanner English, Jimmy Owens, and Randy Weaver. Tyler’s victory came aboard a #31 XR1 Rocket Chassis powered by a Durham Racing Engine with sponsorship from Millwood Plumbing, Machine Construction Company, Competition Racing Equipment, and Tarpon Solutions. A 23 car field piled into the pit area at Rome Speedway for round eight of the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series. Austin Horton picked up Fast Time honors on the evening with his quick lap of 14.114 seconds. The two consolation race victories went to Todd Morrow and Dalton Cook. The 2021 edition of the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals miniseries will conclude in a big way later tonight, May 31 at 411 Motor Speedway. The 9th Annual 'Scott Sexton Memorial' will be held on Memorial Day at the Seymour, Tennessee oval and a strong field of competitors is expected to vie for the $10,052 winner's check. The lucrative race, which will be co-sanctioned by the Iron-Man Late Model Series and will honor one of east-Tennessee's finest racers, will shell out at least $500 to each feature starter. Jimmy Owens captured the victory in the lone Spring Nationals race held so far at 411, as he won the 2019 'Scott Sexton Memorial' over a stacked top five that included runner-up Brandon Overton, Ricky Weiss, Hudson O'Neal, and Kyle Strickler.
