Chris Ferguson Anxious for Return to Racing this Week
Lucas Oil Tripleheader at Golden Isles on Deck

MT. HOLLY, N.C. (05/18/20) –
It’s been over two months since Chris Ferguson got behind the wheel of his Diff-Tran Machining No. 22 K and K Trucking/ Live Oak Aesthetic and Family Dentistry Super Late Model. That hiatus ends this week.

Beginning Tuesday, a tripleheader at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) kicks off a two-week stint of mid-week events for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS), dubbed the Lucas Oil Reopening Tour.

“We’ve always ran good at Golden Isles so I’m excited to see what we can do there,” said Ferguson. “It’s going to be an exciting three days of racing and I hope that fans will tune in and support these events.”

One of the more memorial moments of Ferguson’s career came at Golden Isles Speedway in 2015. Following a back-and-forth battle with Dennis Franklin for the top spot, Chris took the lead for good on the 30th lap and cruised the rest of the way for a $10,000 payday.

Since then, Ferguson has found himself in contention at several other events contested at the 4/10-mile, red clay oval. Unfortunately, random bad luck has yielded some disappointing results. He’s confident that won’t be the case this week.

“Our crew has been working their butts off getting this car back running like we want it to. I can’t thank them enough for all their hard work. We had a good start to the season before the pandemic and I’m looking forward to picking up that momentum again.”

Three single day events, each paying $7,000-to-win, will take at Golden Isles Speedway on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday May 19th, 20th, and 21st. All three events will include a complete program of Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 40-lap A-Main.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, these events will be fan-less. However, fans will still have the opportunity to watch all the action LIVE on LucasOilRacing.TV or on the LOLMDS Facebook page (@lucasdirt) at 7:30 p.m. ET each night.

For more information on these upcoming events, please visit www.LucasDirt.com .

Above all, Ferguson is grateful for his marketing partners and their continued support. “I can’t thank my sponsors enough for sticking with us through all of this. It’s been difficult for everyone but we’re just happy to be going back to the track.”

Chris Ferguson would like to thank all of his marketing partners, including Diff Tran Machining, K and K Trucking, Keith’s Handyman Services, The Racing Warehouse, Live Oak Aesthetic and Family Dentistry, Heckles Plumbing LLC, Carolina Roofing and Gutters, Little Mountain Farm, Troy Swindell Trucking, Carver and Sons Roofing, Dirt Trackin’ App, Western Clean Up Corporation, Rosewood Assisted Living, Beaux-Tie Limousine Service, Tom Bennington, Vinson Sims Construction, Xceldyne Technologies, Schaeffers Oil,  Dynamic Custom Metal Works, On Point Polishing and Detailing, DirtCarLift.com, Fox Racing Shocks, Jerico Performance Products, RM Solutions, Peach State Truck Equipment, Sweet Bloomquist Race Cars, Buzze Racing, Sweet Manufacturing, Big A's Custom Graphics, ASI Racewear, Hoosier Racing Tires by Bryan, Harkey Racing, Joes Racing Products, K&N Performance Filters, Fluidyne High Performance, Indocil Art , Frankland Rear-Ends, Bell Racing USA, Hypercoil Springs, Brinn Transmissions, Weld Racing, Go Lithium, Dynamic Drivelines, Outerwears Pre-Filters, ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment, All Star Performance, Motorstate, FK Rod Ends, Fragola Performance Systems, VP Racing, Hooker Harness, Stock Car Steel and Aluminum Inc., SRI Supplies, SRI Performance, Clements Racing Engines, Waterman Racing Components, Pro Fabrication Headers, Performance Bodies,, Tadpole Fabrication, NecksGen, and MSR Mafia Marketing Services.

Tony Stewart advances six spots during Jackson Motorplex visit

Dates: Friday and Saturday, May 15th-16th
Event: Great Lakes Shootout
Series: Open Event
Track: Jackson Motorplex (Jackson, Minnesota)
Tony Stewart A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: 17th (23rd)
Saturday: Cancelled/Rain

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 18, 2020) - For the first time since March 7, ‘Smoke’ Tony Stewart returned to the captain’s chair of his familiar No. 14 winged sprint car and joined a loaded field of nearly 60 entries for Jackson Motorplex’s Great Lakes Shootout on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16. Although Saturday’s finale was eventually cancelled due to wet weather, the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion made the most of this Friday night start at the state-of-the-art facility, ultimately qualifying for the 25-lap, $5,000-to-win showstopper.

Forced to do things the hard way, Stewart, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Advance Auto Parts/Mobil 1/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/FloRacing/Carquest/TechNet Professional Automotive Service/Hunt Brothers Pizza/Absolute Automation & Security/Digital Ally/No. 14 sprint car, earned his way onto the A-main grid by finishing third during the first of two consolation B-mains. From there, Stewart advanced from 23rd to finish 17th at the end of 25 circuits.

“It feels good to be back in a sprint car,” Tony Stewart said, a ten-time sprint car winner in 2019. “The last thing you want to do at one of these races and leave yourself in a hole because it’s tough to get back out. Lucky for me, I have a team that never stops working to improve. We were able to recover out of the B-main and turn some solid laps in the feature.”

Although a sound recovery, Smoke’s Jackson Motorplex finish snapped a six-race top-ten streak that has been accumulating since action in the Sunshine State in February. To date, Stewart owns five top-five finishes and six top-ten finishes in seven starts.

Tony Stewart and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing are unsure of future plans. Fans are encouraged to stay alert via social media for any breaking news pertaining to the team and their event schedule.

2020 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: 562-points - fourth (18-points behind championship leader, Logan Schuchart)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 18, 2020) - With a break in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing made the trip to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minnesota, and entered the two-day Great Lakes Shootout on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16. Although the weekend finale eventually fell to Mother Nature, Donny Schatz made the most of his visit to the ‘Land of 10,000 Lakes’ and scored a podium performance on Friday evening.

Earning the evening’s pole position after scoring heat race and dash victories, Schatz went on to lead the first ten circuits of the 25-lap main event before losing the top spot to fellow Outlaw, Sheldon Haudenschild. Navigating slower cars, Haudenschild was able to drive around the ten-time World of Outlaws champion as the pair battled through turns three and four to complete lap 11.

Brad Sweet, the defending WoO champion and eventual Great Lakes Shootout preliminary winner, also slipped by Schatz, snagging the runner-up spot with 13 circuits remaining.

With track conditions becoming increasingly abrasive, Schatz’ efforts to regain the lost spots were halted; he finished third.

Donny Schatz and the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Advance Professional/Carquest Auto Parts/Technet Professional Automotive Service/Ford Performance/Mobil 1/Sage Fruit/Curb Records/Absolute Automation & Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/Digital Ally/No. 15 team will now head south to the ‘Show-Me State’ where the World of Outlaws will resume its 2020 campaign with a pair of events at the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, May 22-23. The two-day visit will award a total winner’s share equalling $16,000; $6,000 on Friday and $10,000 on Saturday.

Schatz is a former World of Outlaws winner on the highbanks of I-55, most recently scoring the Prelude to the Ironman victory in 2015. The Fargo, North Dakota-native will enter the weekend fourth in the World of Outlaws championship standings on the strength of one Series victory thus far in 2020.

Starks Preparing for First Trip to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - JACKSON, Minn. (May 18, 2020) - Trey Starks will make his debut at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 this weekend during a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event.

The Gobrecht Motorsports competitor invades the oval in Pevely, Mo., on Friday and Saturday, marking his first time racing in the state of Missouri as well.

"It's a place I've always wanted to go to that I haven't quite made it to," he said of the high-banked track. "It's pretty exciting for me. The anticipation is there and it will be with a great field of cars. I've watched some videos of races around there and it looks like a really fast and fun place to race."

Starks will cap this weekend by tackling a Sprint Invaders show on Sunday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, where he made his debut last summer.

"It was a fun track," he said. "We were fast, but got into a couple of incidents. That was a 410 race last year so I'm excited to see how it is during a 360 event."

Starks is looking forward to building on last weekend's result at the Great Lakes Shootout presented by Tweeter Contracting and Harvey's Five Star Roofing hosted by Jackson Motorplex.

Starks qualified 18th quickest in his group before finishing where he started - sixth - in a heat race. That relegated him to the seventh starting position in a B Main.

"We just weren't up to speed when we needed to be," he said. "When we got everything figured out in the B Main it was too late. We were right there and close to a transfer spot, but it was too late. We learned some valuable things."

Starks gained a trio of positions and in the closing laps was within striking distance of a transfer position, but ultimately missed moving onto the main event by one spot.

Dominic Scelzi Produces Fourth-Place Finish to Wrap Up Long Week of Racing

Inside Line Promotions - MILTON, Fla. (May 18, 2020) - Dominic Scelzi capped a hectic week by capturing his third top-five finish of the season last Saturday at Southern Raceway.

Scelzi tackled four races in three states during a nine-day stretch, which he closed with his best performance by earning a heat race win and a fourth-place feature result during his first career weekend of racing in Florida.

"We were pretty good," he said. "I felt like we were better than fourth place, but the rubber came a little bit early. It was tough because it was a really sandy surface, something that I have never raced on. It made it very difficult to get ahold of anything. I was able to get by Greg (Wilson) for third place twice, but cautions put me back both times. Then it laid rubber and from that time on it was follow the leader."

The strong run came on the heels of a challenging debut at the track on Friday. Scelzi advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race and from 13th to 11th in the USCS Series main event.

"The track was really dirty and it was hard to get ahold of anything," he said. "I don't think I started getting going until Lap 15 or Lap 16, but by then it's too late. We changed a lot before Saturday's race and I think it showed."

The long week and a half of racing began on May 8 with a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series show at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where Scelzi placed fifth in the Last Chance Showdown to finish one position shy of making the A Main out of the stacked field of 48 drivers.

"I think the pill draw is what hurt me going out as the last car in the first group," he said. "For when we went out our qualifying effort wasn't terrible, but the track slowed down quite a bit. In the heat race I passed for fifth, but made a mistake. I felt like I needed to get back to the top after passing Brad (Sweet), but he got around me and that took us out of the main event. We were really, really good in the B Main. We got up to third and the yellow came out. The middle line didn't take off as well on the second start and I spun my tires. We backed it up to seventh. We rallied to get a couple more positions, but just missed making the main event. We were bummed that we missed the show, but to look at the quality of cars and it was our first 410 race with (new crew chief) Jimmy (Carr), I was pleased that we gained really, really fast and we had good speed."

Scelzi headed to West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, Texas, last Tuesday for the West Texas Crude Nationals. He qualified fourth quickest in his group and a third-place outing in a heat race lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.

"The biggest thing for me was we had so much speed while we raced," he said. "We had a bad stumble and that put us to third right away in the heat race. We made a couple of changes for the main event and we were able to race up to sixth. The race was cut to 25 laps (because of time) and I wish it had stayed at 30 because I was still moving forward."

Scelzi's rally from 14th to sixth was tied for the second-most cars passed.

The event finale rained out on Wednesday.

Next up is a trip to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., this Friday and Saturday for a World of Outlaws doubleheader. It will mark Scelzi's debut at the track.

"I've been there four different times and it's rained out every time," he said. "With all the stuff going on this year I've been to some new race tracks, places I wouldn't normally have gone to, so it's exciting to see new tracks."

QUICK RESULTS -

May 8 - Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa - Qualifying: 16; Heat race: 6 (8); B Main: 5 (5).

May 12 - West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, Texas - Qualifying: 4; Heat race: 3 (1); Feature: 6 (14).

May 15 - Southern Raceway in Milton, Fla. - Heat race: 3 (4); Feature: 11 (13).

May 16 - Southern Raceway in Milton, Fla. - Heat race: 1 (2); Feature: 4 (6).
