USA Nationals Invasion Set for This Weekend at Cedar Lake

Mt. Holly, North Carolina (07/30/19) – Chris Ferguson entered the 30th annual Prairie Dirt Classic over the weekend at Fairbury Speedway in his Diff-Tran Machining #22 K and K Trucking/ Bloomquist Race Car/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The mega weekend turned out to be a good one for the North Carolina racer. He registered a $2,500 preliminary feature win on Friday night, and then raced to a Top-10 finish in Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win finale.

“I love this place,” Ferguson told the fans after the race. “This is my home away from home. Sorry I wasn’t on the cushion tonight, but we had to get it done on the bottom. I knew Mikey [Marlar] was pretty good, but we were a little bit better than him on the bottom. Once he ran my line I just kind of had to settle. I saw [Brian] Shirley peaking out there [on the outside], and when he threw that slider in one and two I was like, ‘Don’t miss the bottom.’

“Those two guys are two of the best. To come out here and outrun them, it’s awesome.”

On Friday evening Chris Ferguson made the trek to Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Illinois), where he kicked off the 30th annual Prairie Dirt Classic. With 72 World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries on hand for a round of preliminary features, Ferguson recorded the fifth-fastest time in his qualifying group, which locked him into the third-starting position for the A-Main.

2019 World of Outlaws Championship Standings: 2nd - 6122 points (8 points behind Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (July 30, 2019) - Pennsylvania was kind to ten-time and defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz. After three events contested over a five-day period, Schatz collected three consecutive top-five finishes including a victory at Williams Grove Speedway on Saturday, July 27. The victory, Schatz’ seventh of the season during World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series competition, was worth $20,000, also snapping a multi-year winless streak at the world-famous half-mile that dated back to 2015.

Schatz led all but the first ten circuits on Saturday night at Williams Grove Speedway, taking command for the first time on lap 11 after a battle with Brad Sweet. Sheldon Haudenschild attempted to execute a late-race mount to drive around Schatz, but the defending Series champion prevailed.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve stood out there holding the trophy and the flag,” Schatz said of his Williams Grove Speedway victory, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 15 sprint car. “Hats off to this whole Tony Stewart Racing team. They’ve been digging and it’s paying off.”

Incidentally, Schatz’ results over the five-day span improved as the week progressed, first finishing fifth during the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday, July 23, followed by a third place finish during the Summer Nationals preliminary at Williams Grove on Friday, July 26.

Schatz was battling as high as fourth during main event action at Lernerville, but the Fargo, North Dakota-native was forced to settle for fifth after losing a spot to championship rival, Brad Sweet, in the final corner.

Up next on the schedule, Donny Schatz will continue his pursuit toward an 11th World of Outlaws championship this Friday and Saturday, August 2 & 3, at the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri. The two-day Ironman will be the main attraction at the Pevely highbanks awarding a total winner’s share equalling $28,000; $8,000 on Friday and $20,000 on Saturday. Schatz finished ninth and seventh, respectively, during the two-day Ironman in 2018.

Track: 34 Raceway (West Burlington, Iowa)
Tony Stewart A-Main Finish (Start): 1st (2nd)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (July 30, 2019) - Despite an intense racing schedule that included five events across seven days, two of which located in southern Canada, ‘Smoke’ Tony Stewart persevered and padded his season statistics by not only earning a pair of top-ten finishes, one in the United States and one in Canada, but also a victory; a $26,000 triumph during the inaugural Rayce Rudeen Foundation event at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Sunday, July 28.

The win, the largest of Stewart’s open wheel career in terms of overall payday, occurred from the front row, taking command for the first time on lap 11 after race leader, Rico Abreu, slipped off the track, thus allowing Stewart to drive by. Later forced to fend off challenges by Abreu, Christopher Bell and Aaron Reutzel, Stewart held strong, crossing under the final checkers to secure his second All Star Circuit of Champions victory of the 2019 season and his first since early February.

“To earn the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race victory at 34 Raceway is really special. Kevin Rudeen approached me with the idea for this event last winter, and of course I was excited to be a part of it. I just didn’t think I would ever be in contention to win this deal. I’m pretty sure this is the biggest race I’ve ever won in a sprint car,” Tony Stewart said, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 14 sprint car. “Hats off to my entire crew. The week they had was far from easy. They deserve all of the credit in the world.”

Other positive results over Stewart’s five-day stretch include a fourth place finish at Ohsweken Speedway in Canada on Monday, July 22; the result of an impressive charge from the inside of row seven during 360 Northern Summer Nationals competition.

Up next on the schedule, Tony Stewart will venture back to the Sprint Car Capital of the World that is Knoxville Raceway during the coming week, setting all aim on the three-day, Knoxville 360 Nationals blockbuster, which will kick off officially on Thursday, August 1. Hunting for redemption in 2019, Smoke missed Knoxville 360 Nationals A-Main action by two positions a year ago.

Smoke visited Knoxville Raceway most recently during All Star Circuit of Champions competition on Saturday, July 27. Unfortunately, the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and recent NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee was forced to retire after a seventh place finish in the evening’s B-main.

In addition, Tony Stewart plans to enter both rounds of the Oskaloosa Challenges at Southern Iowa Speedway on Monday and Tuesday, August 5 & 6. Smoke will enter the Front Row Challenge on Monday, followed by the ASCS National Tour/Ultimate Challenge on Tuesday.

Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Southern Pacific Farms/Priority Aviation/Self Made Racing/Dancer Logistics/Dewalt/Mac Tools/No. 24 sprint car, kicked off his busy spell with a victory in Canada, earning the first night of Ohsweken Speedway’s 360 Northern Summer Nationals on Monday, July 22. The win, Abreu’s fourth of the season, was accomplished from the outside of row three, earning $5,000 in the process.

In addition to his victory at Ohsweken, Abreu earned three consecutive top-ten outcomes during starts at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Friday, July 26, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, July 27, and 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Sunday, July 28, finishing second, tenth and second, respectively. Friday’s visit to Illinois was under the MOWA banner, while his Saturday and Sunday starts in Iowa were under All Star Circuit of Champions sanction.

Although his week ended with a runner-up performance during the inaugural Rayce Rudeen Foundation event at 34 Raceway, the outcome beared some disappointment, as Abreu led the first ten circuits before slipping off the edge of the track between turns one and two. The slip allowed Tony Stewart to drive by and ultimately earn the $26,000 victory.

“It was a great week for this team. I’m happy we were able to get it done at Ohsweken on Monday, but we wanted that Rayce Rudeen Foundation win bad. We were in position, I just over drove and made a mistake,” Rico Abreu said. “I’m only human. When you are racing that hard, you are bound to make mistakes. That’s why I love sprint car racing so much. It really brings out the best in you.”

Rico Abreu will continue his 2019 campaign with the two-day Ironman at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, August 2 & 3. Facing off against the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the two-day Ironman will award a total winner’s share equalling $28,000; $8,000 on Friday during preliminary action and $20,000 on Saturday during the finale.

Abreu is certainly no stranger to action at I-55, nor the coveted Ironman, winning back-to-back Ironman titles with his most recent occurring in 2018, also worth $20,000.

Rhett Carter Sweeps Southern Clash Late Model Action at Needmore
Needmore’s $2,500-To-Win Special on August 10 Up Next

Blackshear, Georgia (07/30/19) – Rhett Carter swept Saturday night’s Southern Clash Late Model Series event at Needmore Speedway in his Continental Tire No. 44 Swamp Fox Insurance Agency/ XR1 Rocket Chassis / Wildcat Performance Engines Late Model to claim his third victory of the 2019 campaign.

“Due to rain and other commitments, this was only our second race in July, and we were able to make the most of the opportunity,” Carter said. “We now have three wins on the year, and they’ve all come at Needmore. That place has been really good to us, and hopefully we can pick another one up there, when we return to action in two weeks.

“I definitely want to thank my team, my sponsors, and my fans for all of their support. Rain has kept us from racing as much as we like, but every time that we’ve hit the track, we’ve had a badass hot rod.”

Saturday night saw Rhett Carter return to action at Needmore Speedway (Norman Park, Georgia).  After topping the charts in qualifying in a field of 16 Southern Clash Late Models, Carter led flag-to-flag in the feature to capture his third win of the season and a $1,500 payday. Travis Carter, Adam Giles, Hunter Carter, and Travis Stone trailed him to the checkers.

Hafertepe Ready For My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank

Bryan Hulbert - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 30, 2019) Getting three nights of testing under his belt this past weekend with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. is ready to roll into the 29th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

"We feel like our program is about as good as it can be right now. We're coming in with a lot of confidence and hopefully, we draw a good pill and put a good lap time down so it makes things a lot easier on us the rest of the week," commented Hafertepe, who is set to qualify on Thursday's Dingus Lounge Qualifying Night.

Taking in events at Jackson Motorplex, Knoxville Raceway, and 34 Raceway, the laps were crucial for the Hills Racing No. 15h to figure out the car and set up with the different tire requirements. Finishing 16th at Jackson Motorplex, Sam was 19th the following night at Knoxville but gained speed on Sunday at 34 Raceway with a 13th place run. While not the results that Sam was shooting for, the knowledge gained was what he needed going into the next 10 overall nights of racing.

"Overall, we felt good coming in here with our program. We learned a lot this past weekend. We unloaded with a decent amount of speed but just learning what to do with these tires. Just need to figure out what the car is wanting but we're getting there. Just ready to go this weekend."
