Dustin Strand Clinches Third NLRA Championship
Stock Car Stampede at Jamestown Up Next

Grand Forks, North Dakota (09/12/18) – It was an up-and-down weekend at River Cities Speedway for Dustin Strand, but he and the team persevered to claim their third Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) Championship with their Q&Z Plumbing & Heating #71 RHR Brew/ Millenium Chassis Late Model.

“The point’s battle for the NLRA championship got tight a few weeks ago when we had a motor go down, but we fought hard to get the title. We knew coming into the finale at River Cities Speedway that we had to just finish in front of the other contenders, and that’s what we did,” Strand said. “With the championship in our pocket we were really excited about starting on the pole for the John Seitz Memorial, but bad luck found us again, and we were sidelined by mechanical issues that struck on the parade lap.

“It was a pretty disheartening way to end the weekend, but we are still proud of our season. We not only won our third NLRA title, but we also won another River Cities Speedway Late Model Track Championship as well as the WISSOTA North Dakota State Late Model Championship. I just want to thank everyone, who supports my program. So many great people make it possible. It’s been a challenging year at times, but everyone has stood behind us, and for that I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”

The team entered the 12th annual John Seitz Memorial over the weekend at River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota). Mother Nature claimed the first win of the weekend on Thursday night when rain forced the Prelude to the Johnny with the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) to be postponed to Saturday afternoon.

On Friday evening, preliminary events for the 12th annual John Seitz Memorial were contested. Dustin entered both the Late Model and Modified portions of the program.

Strand hit the ground rolling in the Late Model ranks with a third-place finish in his heat race, and then a thrilling final-lap pass for the win in the Go Hard or Go Home Late Model Pole Dash. After pocketing $920 for his Dash win, he locked into the pole position for the 92-lap, $9,200-to-win finale on Saturday.

Unfortunately, luck would not be on his side in the Late Model feature as he experienced mechanical issues on the parade lap, which prevented him from starting the finale. He was credited with a disappointing 25th-place finish.

In the Modified ranks, Strand finished second in his heat race on Friday night before advancing from the seventh-starting position in the feature to cross the finish line in the runner-up slot behind Ward Imrie. Matt Gilbertson, Rick Delaine, and Alex Guthmiller completed the Top-5 finishers.

In Saturday afternoon’s make-up event for the Prelude to the Johnny, Dustin Strand was one of 44 Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) entries on hand as the tour sanctioned its final event of the 2018 season. Passing three cars in his 10-lap heat, Strand posted a runner-up finish behind Jeffrey Massingill, which locking him into the seventh-starting position for the $1,292-to-win A-Main.

Wheeling his way into the Top-5 in the finale, Dustin notched a fourth-place finish behind Ricky Weiss, Jeffrey Massingill, and Jake Redetzke with Shane Edginton finishing fifth.

With his performance in Saturday afternoon’s program, Dustin Strand captured his third NLRA points title.
