Austin Horton Sweeps NASCAR Weekend at The Hornet’s Nest
WoO at Senoia Up Next

Newnan, Georgia (05/01/18) – In 2017 Austin Horton piloted his Vic Hill-powered Vape’s Gone Wild #16 Orr’s Towing/ Super K Express/ XR1 Rocket Chassis by Clint Smith Super Late Model to both the Southern All Star (SAS) Championship and Rookie of the Title. He did so with consistency, but he was unable to find his way to Victory Lane.

He changed all of that on Saturday night, when he wired the field to pick up the $4,000 tour win at Talladega Short Track. The victory – which was the richest of his young career – was his second of the weekend as he also won Friday night’s unsanctioned $2,000-to-win event at the 1/3-mile oval.

“This was just an incredible weekend for myself and my team,” an elated Horton said. “We had a great car on Friday night, and then on Saturday night we were on a rail again, and I knew if I hit my marks that would be tough to beat. Lapped traffic got kind of crazy there, but it all worked out. I just want to thank my car owner – Woody Wood with Wood Motorsports – he couldn’t be here (at the track) this weekend, but this was for him.”

Friday night brought Austin Horton to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama), pulling double duty in both the Super and Crate Late Model divisions at the track known as “The Hornet’s Nest.”

In the Super Late Model ranks, Horton topped the 22-car field in the feature to pick up his third win of the season. Cory Hedgecock, Riley Hickman, Donald McIntosh, and Jason Hiett rounded out the Top-5 finishers in the 30-lap affair.

In a stout field of 50 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series entries, Horton logged the 16th-fastest time in his qualifying group, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the opening night feature. Sending the Top-3 into the show, Austin fell short with a seventh-place outing as his night came to an early end.

On Saturday evening for the $2,500 top prize in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, Horton failed to record a lap in time trials and scratched from his B-Main.

During the same night – in a field of 40 Southern All Star Series entries – Horton secured his spot into the A-Main with the fastest time overall in qualifying. Rolling off on the pole, Austin held off Ronnie Johnson late in the 40-lap affair to capture his fourth win of the season and a $4,000 payday.

The victory was the richest of his career and his first-ever SAS triumph.

Ronnie Johnson, Michael Page, Cory Hedgecock, and Riley Hickman completed the Top-5 finishers.

This Saturday will take the team to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Georgia), where Austin will look to claim his first-career World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series victory.

Tyler Millwood Scores Career Win in Jack Starrette Memorial
Georgia Racer Heads to Laurens County this Saturday

Kingston, Georgia (05/01/18) – 2017 Ultimate Super Late Model Series Champion and Rookie of the Year, Tyler Millwood returned to action with the tour on Saturday night at Modoc Speedway, where he picked up the biggest win of his young career.

The pilot of the Millwood Plumbing #31 Barry Wright Icon by Madden/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model pocketed $5,022 for his triumph in the annual Jack Starrette Memorial.

The win didn’t come without a tense moment as Millwood suffered damage to his car, while trying to navigate lapped traffic late in the race. Luckily, he would be able to hold on to get the win.

“I’m not going to lie, I thought my chance to win was gone when I slipped up and got damage to my left front late in the race,” Millwood recollected. “Luckily the caution came out for another accident, and I got the lead back and was able to recompose myself.

“This win means a lot. We hated to drop off the World of Outlaws, but right now our family business is crazy busy, and that has to come first. When time allows we are going to race big shows close to home and try to make the most of the opportunities. We were able to capitalize at Modoc, and hopefully this is the first of many wins to come.”

Tyler Millwood was one of 24 Super Late Models registered with the Ultimate Southeast Series at Modoc Raceway (Modoc, South Carolina) on Saturday night for the eighth annual Jack Starrette Memorial.

Registering the fastest lap overall in his qualifying group, Tyler locked into the outside-front-row starting position for the A-Main. Holding a comfortable lead throughout the feature, Millwood survived left-front damage to his entry, and then fought off Ross Bailes in the final circuits to pick up his first win of the season and a $5,022 payday.

Bailes, John Henderson Jr., Cla Knight, and Joey Coulter completed the Top-5 finishers in the 50-lap affair.

For more information from this event, please visit www.ULTIMATESupers.com .

The team looks to return to action this Saturday at Laurens County Speedway (Laurens, South Carolina) with a $4,014-to-win event at the clay oval. The program will be sanctioned by the Ultimate Super Late Model Series.

Tyler is currently looking to add more marketing partners to his racing program. For more information on becoming a part of our winning team, please contact the Millwood Motorsports team manager, Derek Gahring at DerekGahring@gmail.com or 770-301-8021.

Swindell Battles to Overcome Misfortune at Sprint Car World Championship

Inside Line Promotions - MANSFIELD, Ohio (April 30, 2018) - Sammy Swindell fought hard to overcome an untimely mechanical problem last weekend during the $100,000-to-win Sprint Car World Championship at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

Swindell and car owner A.G. Rains kicked off the inaugural event on Friday by qualifying 13th quickest out of more than 70 competitors. That lined the team up on the inside of the second row for a heat race.

Unfortunately, Swindell ran into bad luck as a mechanical problem sent the team to the pits midway through the race while running third. It also ended the night early for the team.

The event concluded on Saturday and since Swindell wasn't able to run a consolation race the previous night he lined up at the back of his heat race. Swindell maneuvered from 10th to sixth place, which relegated him to a B Main. He again rallied to gain four positions, but the fourth-place finish was two spots shy of transferring into the A Main.

"The track was pretty narrow and hard to pass people," he said. "It's so fast there and the turns are tight. When you're behind someone you lose all your downforce. In the B Main we broke the front nose wing and it fell down so that pretty much took us out of contention.

"Once we broke in the heat race on Friday we were buried. We tried to make a run at it, but the way the track was and the short number of laps in the heat and B Main on Saturday it didn't work out."

Swindell said he is unsure whether he will race this weekend.

Herrera Caps Weekend With Podium Finish At Tennessee National Raceway

Bryan Hulbert - HOHENWALD, Tenn. (May 1, 2018) Racing across Kentucky and Tennessee this past weekend with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com and ASCS Mid-South Region, Johnny Herrera's 11th place finish at Paducah International Raceway on Friday was followed by a strong third-place finish at Tennessee National Raceway.

"Overall it was an okay weekend. We had a decent car, just went a little to far one night and kind of fell back, but overall okay," stated Herrera.

Starting off with a Heat Race win at Paducah International Raceway on Friday, the first half of the A-Feature saw Herrera near the front before fading back to 11th in the closing stages.

"We started decently in the feature. We changed some things on the car, but the driver made a couple mistakes that got us behind. Just hooked a rut, lost a few spots, and rolled on from there."

Despite the slip from fifth to 11th on Friday night, Herrera still had a positive point's night; coming out of Paducah tied for second in the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com standings with Sam Hafertepe, Jr.

Taking on the high-banked quarter-mile that is Tennessee National Raceway the following night, Johnny worked through a Heat/Qualifier format to start the feature sixth. Using momentum and restarts, Johnny moved to third before Lap 5, but would not be able to advance any further.

"I got to third pretty quick. We had a couple yellows that kind of put us back and forth there, but once we got rolling it seemed like we were all running about the same speed. Mark [Smith] had a little better speed as the race went on, but he never really got away, he just kind of maintained enough to where we couldn't get to him."

Heading east to Pennsylvania, the Champion Brands No. 45x will roll into Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, May 4 and Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, May 5.

Not recalling the last visit to Selinsgrove, Johnny's last run at Williams Grove Speedway was with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars in 2003. Johnny has two career wins at the Mechanicsburg half-mile.

The 2018 season marks the 34th year of racing for Johnny Herrera which includes over 140 victories in various forms of Sprint Car competition. For more information, and to keep in touch with the man called "Hollywood", log onto to http://www.johnnyherreraracing.com.

Hahn Excited For Pennsylvania Debut With Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series

Bryan Hulbert - SAPULPA, Okla. (May 1, 2018) Putting in a solid weekend in Kentucky and Tennessee, Blake Hahn will add two more tracks to the list this coming weekend as the Griffith Truck and Equipment/CSR Garage No. 52 debuts at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, May 4 and Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, May 5 with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com.

"I've been looking forward to this weekend since it was announced. There is such a history in Pennsylvania, and to be able to finally race there with the American Sprint Car Series, it's big for all these teams," stated Blake.

"The fan response has been great, and we aren't even there yet. We've had people messaging us for a week now asking if we're coming, if we're bringing shirts, if we're going to run double-duty, so it seems like the fans are just as excited as we are.

Going into the Pennsylvania double-header, Hahn was on track at Paducah International Raceway this past Friday night, and Tennessee National Raceway on Saturday.

Tying with Wayne Johnson for the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night at Paducah, Hahn barely made the cut for the A-Feature.

"I knew it was going to be close. We just couldn't move forward in the Heat Race and ended up losing a spot. It just worked out where we didn't have the run the B-Main."

Finally working to sixth in the A-Feature, it was a slow process as the line moved around the steeply banked three-eighths-mile oval.

"It was tricky. The track had a few rough spots that could throw you if you didn't hit them just right so you had to careful of where you tried to pass but overall, the car felt good and I could pretty much run where I needed to."

At Tennessee National Raceway with the ASCS Mid-South Region the following night, Hahn came up just shy of victory as an ill-timed caution negated his pass for the lead while working the fourth lap.

"I wasn't sure if the lap was fully completed or not, but it is what it is. I found the line and ran Mark [Smith] down and made sure I could pull it off without giving him a big chance to get it back. That caution had me cussing because I knew he'd have to mess up for us to get him again, but it was still a good night with a second-place finish."

The 2018 season is Blake Hahn's 16th year of racing. Starting in Jr. Sprints at the Tulsa Shootout, Hahn has progressed through the ranks with over 90 victories across Micros, Midgets, and Sprint Cars. Kevin Swindell and Spencer Bayston Pocket Pair of Top 10s During Challenging Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - MANSFIELD, Ohio (May 1, 2018) - Bounce back was the theme of last weekend for Kevin Swindell and Spencer Bayston, who tackled the $100,000-to-win Sprint Car World Championship at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

"Going off where we were Thursday (during practice) and the qualifying lap on Friday I thought we were one of the best ones there," Swindell said. "That led to a lot of frustration for the heat race deal."

The Swindell Speed Lab backed team qualified fourth quickest out of more than 70 drivers to open the event on Friday. Unfortunately, an early crash in a heat race resulted in a DNF for Bayston. He charged from sixth to second place in a B Main to earn a transfer into the A Main. Bayston capped the night by rallying from 20th to 10th place in the main event.

"We managed to get through the B Main after starting toward the back," Swindell said. "We had some stuff that was still screwed up that we didn't catch because they were moving the show along. We ended up having the stud that was in the arm peel itself out of the nut so it let the left rear shock fall off more or less, which happened about Lap 2 or Lap 3 of the A Main. He was in hang-on mode."

After surviving the opening round the team worked throughout the night to repair the race car.

"We were there until about 4 in the morning," Swindell said. "It bent the left front tube back. We had to eyeball it straight. We got it back to reasonable I guess, but everything wasn't optimal. Then we had to change motors on Saturday afternoon after finding an issue so we didn't have our primary one in."

Bayston made the most of the situation as he won a heat race to lock into the 50-lap main event, which he started on the inside of the seventh row.

"We went into the feature without any knowledge of what we did on Friday with full fuel," Swindell said. "We tried to do our best to set up for 50 laps. At some point along the way, probably just after the halfway break, something hit the Jacob's Ladder mount and knocked the top straps out of the ladder. At that point we lost all the right rear stick we had."

Despite the obstacles, Bayston maneuvered to a seventh-place result.

"That was a testament to our team," he said. "That was one of many things that happened. We kept chugging along. Kevin gave me a good enough car that if that hadn't happened who knows what would have happened. It wasn't the best outcome, but for how we ran after everything that happened I feel really good about it."

Bayston is slated to make his debut at both Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., on Friday and at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Saturday with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.
