Swindell Earns Season-Best Runner-Up Result at Talladega With USCS Series

Inside Line Promotions - EASTABOGA, Ala. (June 5, 2017) - Sammy Swindell captured his best finish of the season last Thursday when he posted a runner-up result during a USCS Series Speedweek event at Talladega Short Track.

"I'd been there maybe three times before and I think I still have the track record with the World of Outlaws," he said. "We went back to everything with the car and concentrated on some stuff with the motor."

Swindell, who was driving for A.G. Rains, opened the event by winning a heat race from the pole. That ranked them fifth in overall points and lined the team up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

"It was right on the bottom and there wasn't much else," he said. "We settled in. I was faster than the guys in front of me, but it was hard to get by. I went to the middle and cleaned that off and got by a few. We were running the leader down, but ran out of laps."

Swindell maneuvered from fifth to end second, which marked his second top five of the season.

The week began a week ago Monday at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tenn., where Swindell made his debut by advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race. That lined him up ninth for the A Main.

"They ran quite a few classes so we were off the track for a while," he said. "It wound up changing quite a bit. We were hoping for our car to be tight and it wasn't the way it worked out. We got by a few cars and got to some traffic. The car ahead of me got through and we had two guys who ran side by side for a few laps and there wasn't a place for me to get by them. We fell back to where I couldn't even see those guys. I finally got by the lapped cars, but the race went through without a caution and the top five were gone."

Swindell finished sixth.

USCS Speedweek races on Friday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss.; and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., rained out.

"We made a lot of gains from Clayhill to Talladega," he said. "It was a fun week. We had a good time and we learned a lot of things, a lot of things that we don't want to do and a lot that we can do."

Sides Nets Pair of Top 10s During AGCO Jackson Nationals Preliminary Nights

Inside Line Promotions - JACKSON, Minn. (June 5, 2017) - Jason Sides put together two strong preliminary nights before a tire problem hampered him during the finale of the 39th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals last weekend at Jackson Motorplex.

Sides opened the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader on Thursday by qualifying second quickest in his group. He then won a heat race to lock into the dash. A fourth-place result in the dash lined him up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

"I ran fifth a long time," he said. "I was behind Danny Lasoski and he was blowing some oil. My tires were bald and I slid over the curb and a couple of guys got by me. On a late restart I got back by one to end up seventh."

Sides placed seventh, which marked his 13th top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws.

Night 2 of the event featured similar success for Sides, who qualified eighth quickest before he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to lock into the dash. A seventh-place finish in the dash started Sides seventh in the A Main.

"I knew going into the feature we needed to move forward to earn one of the four lock-in positions to Saturday's dash," he said. "We were able to advance a couple of positions, but I knew it'd be close between us and Gravel."

Sides maneuvered to a fifth-place result, which was his fifth top five of the season and earned enough points to rank Sides fourth in overall event points out of 40 competitors. That guaranteed him a spot in Saturday's dash, in which he finished where he started - fourth.

That lined him up on the outside of the second row for the $25,000-to-win main event.

"I got up to third early and was running the top at both ends of the track," he said. "The car wanted to turn before I wanted to turn so I went to the bottom and it was even worse."

Sides lost a couple of positions prior to a mid-race restart, which is when he struggled the most as the car became tough to handle.

"I couldn't get going because I was on the left rear wanting to spin out," he said. "It turns out we grew two and a quarter inches in stagger. Twelve was more than I wanted to run, but since the track was wet and we had a good bottom I figured we'd be ok. The left rear tire shrank and the right rear grew and we came in with more than 14 inches of stagger. I just chalk it up to bad luck because I'm not sure what to do different."

Sides faded during the second half of the race to a 14th-place result.

He will return to action with the World of Outlaws this Friday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

Tyler Erb Stays Strong in WoO Competition; Dream Up Next

New Waverly, Texas (06/06/17) – Clearly Tyler Erb never received the memo that drivers are supposed to battle the infamous “sophomore slump” in their second year on a tour.

The pilot of the First Class Septic #91 Rocket XR1 Chassis /Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model continuous to remain consistent and contend for wins. Over the weekend he added two more Top-10 runs – including a runner-up finish – to his 2017 accomplishments.

On Friday night Tyler Erb picked back up with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series with the $10,000-to-win event at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tennessee). Jumping up two spots in his heat race, Tyler scored a 3rd-place finish, positioning him 8th on the starting grid for the opening night feature. Holding his spot for all 50-laps on a surface that made passing difficult, Erb registered an 8th-place finish.

Saturday night brought 29 WoO competitors to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Georgia) for the 3rd annual Billy Clanton Classic. After laying down the 6th-fastest time in qualifying, Erb charged to a heat race win, which locked him into the 2nd-starting spot for the A-Main. Challenging Brandon Sheppard for the top spot on multiple occasions, Tyler Erb settled into a runner-up finish with Eric Wells, Shane Clanton, and Chris Madden rounding out the Top 5.

“I hated to see all of those cautions in the feature at Senoia,” said Erb. “Every time I would catch lap cars was when Brandon would start having to move off of that top. I might have had a shot but we gave it everything that I had so we will just have to try to come back next year and try again. I just can’t say enough about my team. I feel like we are contender every time that we unload this season. Hopefully that first Outlaws win is just around the corner.”

Skinner Captures USCS Speedweek Wins at Hattiesburg and Talladega

Inside Line Promotions - EASTABOGA, Ala. (June 6, 2017) - Marshall Skinner is in the hunt for a USCS Series Speedweek championship thanks to a pair of victories.

Skinner captured Speedweek wins on May 26 at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., and last Thursday at Talladega Short Track to book end the four completed Speedweek races.

"We did really well with it being just me and my wife," he said. "I drive the truck, I wash the cars, I do everything. It's a big boost for me since I'm a one-man operation trying to do it on a shoestring budget."

Speedweek began with Skinner advancing from fourth to third place in the dash at Hattiesburg Speedway. He then won a heat race after starting on the outside front row before maneuvering from fourth to win his first career race at the track.

"Me and Derek (Hagar) were battling for the lead when traffic crashed in front of us," he said. "Derek got caught up in it and I got a piece of it, too. Luckily I was able to keep going and we held the lead for the rest of the race."

Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., hosted Speedweek Round 2 on May 27. Skinner placed fifth in the dash and ended fourth in a heat race after being involved in a crash. He capped the night by charging from 15 th to a sixth-place result in the main event.

The third round of Speedweek competition was a week ago Monday at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tenn., where Skinner advanced from third to second place in a heat race before he closed the night fourth in the main event.

Skinner returned to Victory Lane on Thursday at Talladega Short Track, where he ended fifth in the dash, charged from seventh to third place in a heat race and used a mid-race pass on Tim Crawley to secure the win in the main event.

"That was a Snow White story," Skinner said. "I actually broke down on the way to the track. My uncle brought me his truck to use and we pulled my truck out of the way. I missed hot laps and Derek put heat in my engine while I got changed at the track. The dash was my first time on the track and I basically used that as hot laps to figure out a setup.

"I had a great car in the feature and I drove by Crawley on a restart on the 17th lap. I didn't even think I was going to get to the track let alone win."

The victory was Skinner's first at the oval.

Last Friday's Speedweek event at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., was cancelled because of rain and Saturday's show at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., was postponed to June 22 because of inclement weather. Skinner will head into that Speedweek finale ranked second in the standings.

He will take this weekend off before resuming competition on June 17 at Riverside International Speedway for the Hooker Hood Classic.
