Swindell Takes Advantage of Opportunity to Make Kings Royal Main Event Driving for Son

Inside Line Promotions - ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 18, 2017) - A mechanical problem hampered last week for Sammy Swindell, who entered the busy week in Ohio with high expectations before he ended it by taking advantage of a unique opportunity.

Swindell and car owner A.G. Rains made their 410ci winged sprint car season debut on Tuesday during the Brad Doty Classic at Attica Raceway Park in Attica with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

"The engine didn't accelerate as good as it should and that hurt us in qualifying," he said. "We were a little step out all night."

The team worked to adjust to the new engine throughout the night, which resulted in a 17th-place qualifying result in their group and a seventh-place heat race finish before Swindell placed second in the C Main. Officials deemed the team was late to staging for the Last Chance Showdown and wouldn't allow Swindell to compete so the night ended early.

"We were working on it all night long and sometimes the car reacts different to how the engine is so it was a long work in progress," he said.

Unfortunately, a mechanical problem during qualifying on Thursday during the opening night of the three-day Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway ended the weekend early for the Rains team. Swindell thought he would be out of action for the remainder of the event, but his son, Kevin, offered him a ride for Saturday's $50,000-to-win finale.

"It's always been the other way around with Kevin driving for me," Sammy Swindell said. "Everything went really well. The car was pretty good. We qualified decent for the caliber of cars that were there. We had a pretty good run in our heat. The car wasn't as good as we liked for it to be. There were some things we'd like to be different. Kevin did find a problem with the right rear shock after the event."

Swindell qualified 18th quickest and he placed third in a heat race to lock into the 18th starting position for the 40-lap main event.

"We tried to make the best of it starting that far back," he said. "When we filled it with fuel the first part of the race the car just wasn't as good as it should be. We lost some spots. As we lost some fuel we passed a bunch of guys back. At that place unless your car is exceptional it was hard to pass."

Swindell rebounded from the slow start to post a 19th-place finish. It marked the 28th time in the 34-year history of the event that Swindell made the main event.

Dover Recovering From Rough Flip With Event at I-80 on the Horizon

Inside Line Promotions - EAGLE, Neb. (July 18, 2017) - Jack Dover is recovering well following a wild ride last Saturday at Eagle Raceway.

Dover, who was driving for Chris Roseland during the 305ci winged sprint car event, charged from ninth to third place during a heat race at the high-banked oval. That lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

"About five laps in we got behind a car and we were right on their bumper," he said. "I couldn't see what was in front of their car. That driver turned hard left to avoid hitting another car that turned sideways. They turned just in time and I had nowhere to go. Normally I'm really good at looking ahead, but this time I had no time to react. I got my car turned just enough to clip the back of his car with my right front. I went end over end four times I heard."

The vicious flip ended Dover's night early with a 19th-place result and sent him to a local hospital for an evaluation.

Dover was released that night and said he is healing well.

He is scheduled to drive for Chris Bowers this Thursday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints. Dover has 12 wins, 19 podiums and 23 top fives in 31 races during 360ci winged sprint car competition at the track throughout the last four-plus seasons.

"We've had a lot of good runs there in my car," he said. "I think we have a chance of winning or being on the podium this week."

Moss Racing Engines manufactures Ford racing engines. The company was started by Chris Moss, who worked under the Roush Yates Racing Engines banner before creating his own company in 2013.

Sides Caps Frustrating Week in Ohio With Strong Qualifying Result at Kings Royal

Inside Line Promotions - ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 18, 2017) - Jason Sides is eager to look ahead following a frustrating week in Ohio.

"I don't know the last time we missed three races in a row," he said. "We just sucked. I can't explain it any more than that."

Sides missed the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series main events last Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica during the Brad Doty Classic as well as the first two nights of the Kings Royal tripleheader at Eldora Speedway on Thursday and Friday.

"I got it figured out what we needed to do and we were second quick on the final night," he said. "That was a big improvement on how we qualified throughout the three previous shows."

Sides qualified second quickest out of the 50-plus competitors to open the $50,000-to-win event on Saturday at the half-mile oval. He then finished where he started - fifth - in a heat race, but locked into the main event by having one of the two fastest qualifying times.

"We just need to figure out how to get around Eldora better," he said. "I got up to about 13th or 14th, but I think we got the right rear tire way too hot. I slowly faded. I think we could have had the car a little bit better."

Sides, who started 19th, gained a few positions early before fading to the back. He rebounded in the closing laps to place 20 th.

Sides will return to action with the World of Outlaws on Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup before competing on Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Summer Nationals and on Sunday at Ransomville Speedway in Ransomville, N.Y., for The Big "R" Outlaw Shootout.
