Drake Troutman Tops Modified Field at Roaring Knob
Looks Ahead to Weekend Tripleheader

HYNDMAN, Pa. (07/09/20) – Drake Troutman parked his Smith Transport No. 7 RFI Resources/ MB Customs Modified in Victory Lane for the second straight week on Sunday night.

“It was an up and down weekend to say the least,” noted Troutman. “We had a solid start on Friday night at Bedford and then some tough luck at Cumberland on Saturday. More bad luck on Sunday in the Late Model but we were able to get it done in the Modified. Our MB Customs/ LaSalle’s Racing Engine Modified ran flawless once again. Thanks to everyone for their continued support. Hopefully we can get this monkey off our back this weekend.”

Troutman visited Bedford Speedway (Bedford, Pa.) on Friday evening to kick off a busy weekend, pulling double duty for the Milt Miller Tribute. Sporting a new wrap in honor of Tom Gill, Troutman earned the 22nd-starting position for the $3,000-to-win Late Model feature via preliminary events. After wheeling his way up to 12th before blowing a right-rear tire, Drake rebounded from the tail of the field to finish sixth.

In his Modified, Drake advanced forward from his eighth-starting position in the feature to battle for the win in the closing laps. After getting penalized a row for apparently jumping the start following a caution, Troutman salvaged a runner-up finish behind Michael Altobelli with Evan Taylor, Alyssa Rowe, and Derek Deusenberry rounding out the Top-5.

On Saturday night at Cumberland Raceway (Cumberland, Md.) in a field of 22 Mid Atlantic Modifieds, Drake secured his spot into the main event with a third-place finish in his heat. After running inside the Top-5 for the majority of the race, Troutman broke a driveshaft that sidelined him for the remainder of the evening.

Competing in his Late Model and Modified on Sunday at Roaring Knob Motorsports Park (Markleysburg, Pa.), Troutman suffered a broken birdcage in the Ultimate Northeast Series sanctioned A-Main that forced him to retire early.
In his Modified, Drake rolled to his fifth win of the season in the feature.

Troutman has another busy slate ahead this weekend. He’ll return to Bedford Speedway on Friday to compete in the Super Late Model ranks. On Saturday, the action shifts to Winchester (Va.) Speedway for a $1,000-to-win event for Modifieds. Drake will wrap up the weekend by once again pulling double duty at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex.

Dillard Inherits Elimination Showdown Win at Cedar Lake
Wisconsin Doubleheader this Weekend

ROBELINE, La. (07/09/20) – Fresh off his richest career payday a week ago, Cade Dillard was back in Victory Lane on Thursday night with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series.

Dillard parked S&S Fishing & Rental Inc. No. 97 MB Customs/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model in Victory Lane after apparent winner Ricky Weiss failed post-race technical inspection at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis.

With the Top-12 qualifiers from the first qualifying session making the invert, Dillard laid down the 12th fastest time, which positioned him on the pole for the elimination style feature.

After four cars from the tail of each 5-lap segment were eliminated, Cade was in contention for the lead in the final 8-lap shootout. Battling with Weiss for the top spot on the final lap, Dillard came up 0.172 seconds short at the line to finish second behind Weiss.

After post-race inspection penalized Weiss three positions, Dillard was awarded his third win of the season and a $3,000 payday. Rodney Sanders, Brandon Sheppard, Weiss, and Darrell Lanigan completed the Top-5 finishers.

“I think I just got too comfortable on the bottom, was driving too straight trying to protect that down there,” Dillard said when asked how Weiss had overtaken him for the lead on lap two of the third 5-lap segment. “Once he went by I got a lot more aggressive. I felt like the car was a lot better once I done that.

“I seen him move down there on the last lap to protect that bottom, so I knew if I hit (turns) one and two pretty good we’d have a good run at it. I was gonna roll around the top and then he floated out to the wall there (off turn two)… it was almost too late to try and cross him over and it kind of killed my momentum to be able to drive up under him, but we got up beside him (in three and four). We probably could’ve won it and took both of us, but I’m just not that way so we just settled for second.”

“We got a real good hot rod right now,” he added. “We’re just gonna try to keep this momentum going.”

The following night in a field of 26 cars, Cade secured his spot into the $20,000-to-win A-Main with a 10-lap heat race victory. Losing four spots in the 40-lap main event, Dillard recorded a ninth-place outing.

On Saturday evening, Dillard came in second in his heat race, transferring him into the redraw. Pulling the second-starting position for the $20,000-to-win finale, Cade shot out to an early race lead until Sheppard wrestled it away on the second lap.

Holding off a late-race charge from Weiss, Dillard notched a runner-up finish behind Sheppard with Weiss, Dennis Erb Jr., and Jimmy Mars rounding out the Top-5.

Up next for the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series is another Wisconsin doubleheader this weekend. On Friday, July 10, the Late Models head for Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, Wisc. followed by a Saturday, July 11 trip to the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisc.

Cade has climbed to fourth in the latest World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series point standings. To view the latest standings, complete results, and learn more about upcoming events, please visit www.WoOLMS.com .

All Star Points Leader Reutzel Closing in on First Ohio Speedweek Title

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (July 9, 2020) – Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team retain their position atop the All Star Circuit of Champions point charts as they vie for a third consecutive series championship.

And, not only does the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car team reside atop the season point charts, Reutzel and crew are closing on a potential first “Ohio Sprint Speedweek” championship.

With the initial half of Ohio Sprint Speedweek in the books, Reutzel carries a 16-point advantage into the final four races of the hectic slate of Ohio events that includes nine races in ten days.

The final half gets under way Thursday night at Zanesville’s Muskingum County Speedway before moving on to Portsmouth Motor Speedway on Friday and then Hartford’s Sharon Speedway on Saturday and Sunday.

“We just have to keep putting together strong finishes and the points will take care of themselves,” Reutzel surmises.

It’s a habit that Reutzel is in the habit of aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment entry as of late.

Reutzel has reeled off 13 consecutive top-ten finishes including 11 among the top five.  Among those  are four wins and ten podium runs including his latest pair of triumphs in All Star action at Volunteer Speedway on June 27 and then Sunday’s Speedweek score at Fremont that brought his season win total to ten triumphs.

After a fourth-place showing at Port Royal Speedway and the Volunteer Speedway win three nights later, Reutzel and the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspension team took in three nights of Pennsylvania Speedway with another pair of podium finishes at Lincoln Speedway and Port Royal Speedway.

“It would have been nice to win one of those, but the competition there is really tough,” Reutzel said after finishes of second, eighth and third.  “We were also trying a few different things, so hopefully that will pay off when we go back to those tracks later in the season.”

After an off day, Ohio Sprint Speedweek began in earnest last Friday with Reutzel racing to third at Attica Raceway Park.  Shifting to a Fremont Speedway double, Reutzel improved one position to second and then climbed one more step up the podium after racing the Fischer Body Shop machine to victory lane on Sunday night for his tenth win of the season.

“Rough and heavy, slick; we just seem to adapt to anything and it’s pretty cool when you can do stuff like that,” Reutzel explained after taking the win on a slick track.  “I couldn’t be more proud of my guys.”

After a rare finish outside the top-five on Monday at Wayne County Speedway, Reutzel rebounded from potential disastrous engine issues in the Dash to capture another podium finish of third on Wednesday night at Peeble’s Brushcreek Motorsports Complex.

Reutzel will be looking for more visits to victory lane and a potential Ohio Sprint Speedweek championship beginning on Thursday nigh at Muskingum County Speedway.

Duty drove his Don Frank Floors No. 15 Rocket Chassis/ Pro Power Racing Engines Super Late Model to a second place finish in Sunday’s Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA), Bullring Bullseye 40.

“I was super happy with our run on Sunday,” Justin commented. “We had a really rough start to our weekend with some bad luck, so it was good to turn things around and end on a positive note. I feel like we have a really balanced race car right now, which makes me excited for the upcoming races on our schedule!”

Friday night saw Justin Duty in action at 34 Raceway (West Burlington, Iowa) for the 12th annual Slocum 50. With 35 MLRA entries on hand, Duty followed up a seventh-place finish in his heat with a seventh-place finish in his B-Main. Relying on a provisional to start the $10,555-to-win A-Main, Justin retired from the 50-lapper on lap 22.

The following night at 300 Raceway (Farley, Iowa) for the Independence Day Shootout, Justin ran into battery issues in time trials that prevented him for making it out for his B-Main. Starting on the tail of the feature, Duty suffered radiator issues that forced him to retire early. He was credited with a 12th place outing.

On Sunday afternoon at The Bullring at RICo Fairgrounds, Duty timed in seventh fastest overall before coming in sixth in his heat. With $6,000 on the line in the feature, Justin charged all the way from 16th on the grid to register a runner-up finish behind Payton Looney. Jeremiah Hurst, Tony Toste, and Garrett Alberson rounded out the Top-5.

Bacon Set to Defend Corn Belt Nationals Title after Sprintacular USAC Triumph

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (July 9, 2020) – Saturday’s USAC Sprint Car “Bill Gardner Sprintacular” triumph at Putnamville, Indiana’s Lincoln Park Speedway was a much needed boost for Brady Bacon and the Hoffman Auto Racing Fatheadz Eyewear No. 69 Sprint Car team.

Now, “The Macho Man” looks to carry that momentum over into this weekend’s Second Annual Corn Belt Nationals at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway, where he swept his way to victory lane during both nights of last year’s inaugural edition.

“It’s always big when you can win at Knoxville and we’ve always been good there in a non-wing car,” Bacon says.

Bacon is hopeful that Saturday’s triumph at Lincoln Park Speedway, his fourth of the year in USAC Sprint Car action, will stem the tide of recent misfortune.

“Hopefully our bad luck is out of the way,” Bacon explains.  “The car has been fast every night, we just haven’t had any luck to go with it.”

The Saturday win came after mechanical issues derailed a sure podium finish and possible win at Terre Haute on July 1 and then more issues popped up before Friday night’s feature event that altered Bacon’s role for the feature to that of spectator.

And it was the same culprit in both situations.  A bad magneto in both cases wiped out what could have been.

“I haven’t had two mags go bad in my entire career,” Bacon explains.  “We completely changed it, and the second one went bad.  And when we ran the local show at Lawrenceburg, we were having mag issues there too.  So that’s three and in different cars with different engines.”

Saturday’s card may have just turned that around though, with Bacon besting a field of 57 entries for his 32nd career USAC Sprint Car triumph.

But, after battling into the lead at the midway point, it still took some work.

“When I got the lead, I think that’s when our tire started going down,” Bacon recalled of the deflation on the right rear.  “I wasn’t able to make the speed I was able to make to get to the lead.  I was kind of having to play defense and use the lapped cars as blockers.”

Bacon emerged from a late-race battle to secure the win and hold on to third in USAC National points.

Bacon looks to add to that win total this weekend at Knoxville Raceway’s Corn Belt Nationals.
