Rodney Sanders Wins Round Two of Wild West Shootout
Modified Standout Continues Early-Season Success
HAPPY, Tex. (01/14/20) – Rodney Sanders continued his early-season success on Sunday, winning the second round of the 14th Annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz.
Sanders won the 25-lap, $2,000 main event by nearly two seconds in his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs/ Hatfield Racing Engine Modified.
“We definitely struggled the first night,” Sanders said. “For the way things started though, we were able to flip the script for round two and get a win. Thanks to my crew, my family, my sponsors, and my fans for all of their great support.”
With passing points from the heat race setting the grid for the feature, Sanders passed seven cars in his heat race to place second behind Chad Olsen.
Starting on the pole for the A-Main, Sanders lost the top spot early but quickly tracked down leader Travis Sauer. Sliding ahead of Sauer after he jumped the cushion, Rodney soared to his fourth win of the season by a 1.767 second margin over Lucas Schott, Tyler Wolff, Dustin Strand, and Matt Gilbertson.
On Saturday night, Sanders posted a fifth-place finish in his heat race, transferring him into a B-Main. Needing to place fourth or better to make the main event, Rodney secured his spot with a runner-up finish.
With a $1,000 payday on the line, Sanders was an early retiree from the 25-lap affair, ultimately logging a 17th place outing in the final rundown.

Shirley Wins Wild West Shootout Opener in Arizona
Illinois Driver Pockets $5,000
CHILTON, Wis. (01/13/20) – Brian Shirley charged to his first win of the season on Saturday night in the opening round of the Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Ariz.).
In his first ever trip to the annual Arizona miniseries, Shirley piloted his Bob Cullen Racing No. 3s Thomason Express/ J&J Ventures Gaming/ XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model to a $5,000 victory.
“What can I say, I mean, I’ve just been blessed, blessed with a great team,” Shirley said in Victory Lane. “The point of coming out here was so me, Anthony [Burroughs], Aaron [Mitchell], Mikey [Myers], could gel.”
Shirley started the night by posting the second-quickest lap in his time trial group. He followed that up with an eight-lap heat race win, earning him the sixth starting spot for the 40-lap main event.
Taking advantage of Ricky Thornton Jr.'s slipup on lap-29, Brian took the lead and pulled away to a 1.905 second advantage in the final 10 laps for the win. Trailing Shirley to the finish line were Frank Heckenast Jr., Thornton Jr., Brandon Sheppard, and Chris Simpson.
“At Vado … we had some things and miscues there where we just didn’t do a good job. We worked three days and Anthony [Burroughs] took the whole car apart,” said Shirley. “Just looking forward to getting the races in and some laps and just thankful that the good Lord blessed me.”
With another $5,000 on the line on Sunday night, Shirley qualified fourth overall in his group and went on to finish third in his heat race. After starting 10th in the 40-lap feature, Brian advanced three positions to record a seventh-place finish.
The Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout resumes at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway on Wednesday, January 15 with another $5,000-to-win event. Additional information and full results from the weekend are available at www.WildWestShootout.net.
