Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (08/16/17)
– Ricky Weiss continued his winning ways over the weekend by taking the Jerome Guyot-owned #48 Modified to Victory Lane in the Al Delaine Memorial.

“I’m probably as proud of this win as any that I’ve got this year,” Weiss said. “I’ve only got a few starts in a Modified this season, and this was a really strong field of racers on hand for this event. Behind the wheel of the Jerome Guyot-owned #48 Open Wheel Modified, Ricky Weiss invaded Red River Co-op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) on Thursday evening for the Al Delaine Memorial. Drawing 30 cars for the unsanctioned event, Weiss improved five spots in his heat race, registering a runner-up finish behind Gavin Paul. Earning the 4th-starting position for the main event, Ricky outran the field in the 30-lapper, capturing his ninth win of the season. Gavin Paull, Ward Imrie, Rick Delaine, and Scott Greer rounded out the Top-5 finishers.

Sides Earns Best Knoxville Nationals Finish Since 2010

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2017) - Jason Sides drove his way into the Knoxville Nationals A Main last weekend for the first time since 2012 during the 57th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey's General Store at Knoxville Raceway.

"That's the goal," he said. "It's the toughest race of the year and it offers a good payday to make the A Main so the goal is to make the show. Then anything you can do from there is icing on the cake."

Sides kicked off the event on Thursday when he qualified eighth quickest around the half-mile oval. He then advanced from seventh to sixth place in a heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. Sides ended where he started - fourth - in the consolation race to garner the final transfer position into the back of the main event.

He maneuvered from 24th to a 15th-place finish in the main event.

"Once we got going we focused on nailing the bottom and concentrating on hitting that," he said. "I knew for every car we passed it was a couple of points. Points were so important. I kept thinking about passing to get ourselves in position for Saturday night."

Once preliminary points were calculated Sides ranked 19th, which was only three positions shy of locking into Saturday's $150,000-to-win main event. That lined him up third in the B Main.

"We had a good starting spot for Saturday night," he said. "The two guys in front got away from us. We kept nailing the bottom and passed them both. We had a couple of late cautions with (Tim) Shaffer behind me. He showed me his nose. I kept doing what I needed to do and got ourselves into the race. It's huge. We hadn't made that show in five years. It's a big relief just to get in the show."

Sides won the B Main to transfer into his seventh career Knoxville Nationals A Main, which he started 21st.

"Starting back there where we did we got a couple of cars and before you know it there's a caution and they do single-file restarts," he said. "You're a straightaway behind the leaders and they come around there quick. We raced with the leader for a lap or two trying to stay on the lead lap because I knew if there was another caution it'd get you a few more spots. The biggest thing was trying to stay on the lead lap. The leader got by us and then we were racing with the other lapped cars the rest of the time.

"All in all, making the show and passing a few cars, I'm pretty happy with it. For our team to make the show and make a little money to pay some bills was great."

Sides ended 16th, which tied his second-best finish at the Knoxville Nationals. It also marked his best result during the event since placing a career-best 12th in 2010.

He is slated to compete this Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D.; Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D.; and Sunday at Nodak Speedway in Minot, N.D., with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Starks Makes First Career Knoxville Nationals A Main Start

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2017) - Trey Starks charged into his first career Knoxville Nationals A Main last weekend during the 57th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey's General Store at Knoxville Raceway.

"It was a good week for us," he said. "We made the Nationals. There are 100-some cars there and to be in the top 24 is pretty cool."

Starks and the Gobrecht Motorsports team kicked off sprint car racing's premier event on Thursday by qualifying sixth quickest out of more than 50 drivers. Starks then finished where he started - seventh - in a heat race, which relegated him to the B Main.

"Qualifying is a big part of it," he said. "We drew a decent number so I knew I had to take advantage of that. We didn't do anything in our heat race and didn't make many points. We had to make it through the B Main and make a good amount of points in the A Main."

Starks placed third in the consolation race to transfer into the back row of the main event.

"I rode around on the bottom the first five or 10 laps," he said. "Then when it was time to jump to the top I got up there and put together some solid laps. I picked them off one by one. We ran out of time, but I felt good because I ran a solid race of taking what I could get and not giving anything up."

Starks maneuvered from 23rd to a 13th-place finish, which marked the second-most cars passed. That ranked him 18th in overall points once preliminary night points were calculated, missing a spot in the A Main by only two positions and lining him up on the outside of the front row for the B Main on Saturday.

"I was really happy to not have to run on Friday night," he said. "I've had to run that night every time I've come to Nationals. It was really relieving and took a lot of stress off.

"The B Main was definitely interesting. It was 22 laps, which was longer than a normal show at Knoxville. It wasn't going to be easy. We led the first 15 or so laps. The track started to change. A lot of guys behind me have experience at the track and know how to run the bottom. I tried to stick with what I knew and stay up top. They went down and got bunched up and I stayed up top and whistled around. It wasn't the prettiest, but it put us in the show."

Starks had dropped to just outside a transfer position before a late-race pass earned him a fourth-place finish to score the final transfer into the $150,000-to-win A Main.

"We tried some different things," he said. "I was trying to fight to stay on the lead lap. We got a really good start and got on the outside of another car. He changed lanes going into turn three. We bicycled and got up on two wheels and almost into the fence. I thought I was going over. I was in survival mode after that. We came in on the fuel stop and made a few changes. We passed a few cars in the second half of the race. We tried to take what we could get."

Starks advanced from 24th to an 18th-place result.

He is slated to compete with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa.; and Sunday at Susquehanna Speedway in Newberrytown, Pa.
