Pass Christian, MS – South Mississippi Speedway was back in action Saturday night after not racing the last three Saturday nights. In the UMP Modified, caution came out on the first lap when the pole sitter, #34 Noah Daspit, had car trouble in turns one and two, causing a complete restart. In the second lap, a crash involving three cars in turns 3 and 4 brought out the caution flag for the second time of the night. During lap 5, #30 driven by Jerry McQueen spun out in turns 1 and 2, causing the third caution. After the restart, #22 KI Davis took the lead from #D1 Ronnie Roberts, and stayed there for the rest of the race. The UMP Modified resulted in #22 KI Davis taking the win, followed by #D1 Ronnie Roberts, and #23 Kent Wood.
The second race of the night brought out the Cajun Sprint Cars for the third time this season at SMS. After the first lap, #1 Michael Dupuy had the lead, followed by #9 Lane Whittington, #09 Timmy Thrash, and #7 Marshall Yelverton. During the second lap, #10 Tom Ebersole spun out in turn four, but managed to pull it out without a caution. By the ninth lap, #1 Michael Dupuy had half a lap lead over the 3rd place car, #09 Timmy Thrash. The first caution came out during lap 11 when #36 Chris Thornton spun out in turn 4. After the restart, #15 Justin McKenzie went in the infield in turn four, bringing out another caution. Caution came out on lap 13 when the current leader #1Michael Dupuy slowed on the back straightaway. The remainder of the race went on caution free with #9 Lane Whittington taking the win, followed by #7 Marshall Yelverton, and #09 Timmy Thrash. Fans saw the winning driver climb up on his car and threw each of his gloves to the spectators in the stands.
In the Late Models Race, we saw 8 cars competing for the win, with #17 Chris O'Conner on the pole position. During the first lap, #13I Jeremy Idom and #R14 Tracy Brown battled for the third position. Caution came out during lap 12 when #41 Al Kouhout spun out after turn two. The remainder of the race went without a caution with #17 Chris O'Conner taking his first win of the season at SMS, followed by #R14 Tracy Brown and #22 Jamey Smith.
Race number 4 brought out thirteen cars competing in the Street Stock race, with #41C Rob Coste in the pole position. Caution came out on the first lap with #14 Corey Daspit having trouble on the front straightaway causing a complete restart. Attempt number two, also resulted in a caution when #07 Earl Woods crossed the track in turn four giving the other cars nowhere to go. After another complete restart, #19 Michael Williams took the lead after the first lap. Caution came out again during lap 8, when #17 Brandon Stokes spun out in turn 4. The race finished with #19 Michael Williams taking the win, followed by #20 Stacy Herron and #72 Sam Maxie.
Pure Stock took the field with #11 Shannon Fletcher in the pole position. After the first lap, #25s James Woods was the new leader. Caution came out on lap 2 caused by #33 Bobby Rhoades on the back straightaway. During lap 6, caution and a red flag came out when #33 Bobby Rhoades and #18 Steve Nichols got into each other on the front straightaway. Both drivers were okay. After a few more cautions due to spinouts in turn 4, #25s James Woods took his 7th win of the year and his 5th win in a row at SMS. He was followed by #11 Shannon Fletcher and #95 Ronnie Plummer.
The last race of the night brought out 11 cars to compete in the Stinger class, with #D5 David Necaise on the pole. Caution came out during the first lap, when #16 Tyler Dean spun out in turn 4. The red flag came out when #12 Kevin Bruce flipped his car in turns 1 and 2, but was okay. After the restart, the remainder of the race was caution free, with #D5 David Necaise taking the win, followed by #17 Nick Politi and #3 Jr George Mitchell.
