Action opened on Friday night at the brand-new, Timberline Speedway (Corley, Texas) as Ray went into battle against a talented field of thirty-eight entries. From the drop of the green in the first heat race passing would be difficult on the 3/8 mile oval, and Moore would have to win his b-main to earn a starting spot in the main event. He started fifteenth on the grid before retiring early from the event to a sixteenth place finish.

Saturday evening found him competing at his home track, Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) in his #93 MB Customs Super Late Model. A stellar field of forty-four entries attacked the 1/4 mile oval, and Ray started his night by winning his heat race to lock into the sixth starting spot for the 35 lap finale. During the course of the feature he advanced three spots on his way to a fourth place finish behind race winner, Wendell Wallace, Ross Camponovo, and Tommy Surrett.

Since Ray arrived after the close of registration he had to start on the tail of a heat race with no passing points. He would go on to earn the ninth starting spot for the main event, and on a track that lended itself to little passing he would manage to advance five spots to a fourth place finish.
